Thread: Your thoughts on Red Rock

  1. #1
I'm attending a super bowl party at the red rock, I've never been there. Any of you from here have anything to say about it? Comments much appreciated.

My friend who plays there often I'm his guest.

Hi. It's a beautiful resort and the casino is large. I've played craps there and the dealer is friendly. The rooms are supposed to be very nice but I've never stayed there. My son has stayed there and says the rooms are as nice as anything on the Strip. Lots of full pay video poker the last time I was there. But lots of smokers there.

I hung out in Red Rock when the Horse Racing World Championship was there a couple of years. The place is very nice. Rooms are a bit sci-fi modern, but very chic. Lovely, really. The video poker was top notch when I was there. Sports book is beautiful.

Rob Argentino likes the place. I actually recommend getting Rob to comment on the better restaurants. I can only vouch for the buffet, which I think was of a reasonable quality and a great bargain. In the strip mall just down the street, by the way, is one of the top 30 pizza places in the country.

I thank you both for the reviews, looking forward to my visit

Pretty much concur with what red & Alan said. It's a class act, with only GVR being classier in the Stations group. It's MAJOR issue is it has a noodle-slurping restaurant, which brings in throngs of Chinese who smoke like chimneys. But if you're going to a Super Bowl party then it's way more than likely you won't see many or even any of them there. Football is about as important to them as chopsticks are when eating shark fin soup.

They have a great selection of real restaurants.

Not as enthused as the others. I feel kind of trapped out there--you are on an island. I like to walk the strip and go in all of the properties even tho Ive seen them so many times.

Nothing wrong with the Red Rock (ditto re the smoking). But I don't like the feel out there.

Regnis makes a good point. On a weekend, and especially Super Bowl Sunday, you are going to be marooned 10 miles from the strip. So if you are hoping for a Las Vegas experience, that will not happen as traffic will be awful. You are going to be isolated there, but if you're good with that, enjoy!

Is it possible that your Vegas friends live in Summerlin? That's where Red Rock is and it's a beautiful bedroom community with shopping areas, fresh air, nice stores, parks. There are a couple of other casinos in the area also. If you want to get out of the casino and enjoy middle America living you'll find it in Summerlin.

How does RR feel like being stranded on an island?? Anyone ever heard of a car that can get you to close-by casinos like Suncoast or Rampart--the latter being a step above 90% of what's in LV?

The Strip gets old, and so do the crowds, the poor pay tables, the foreigners and the tourists.

I just want to say something about Summerlin. Jason and I almost moved our businesses to Vegas this past summer. Jason has an online music equipment business.

Besides the huge supply of attractive two-bedroom, two bath condos in the price range of $85,000 I found an absolutely gorgeous two-bedroom, two bath garden apartment (four units per building) to rent for $990 a month that had the usual amenities including parking, tennis court, green space, clubhouse, outdoor pool, gym, and what sold me on the place was an INDOOR pool.

At the last minute Jason decided not to make the move this year, and I canceled my move as well. (My Infomercial business can operate anywhere.) It seems a baby got in the way of the relocation. I will be a grandfather soon.

I have lived in Summerlin the past 5 years. I am a little over a mile away from the Redrock.

I'll say right off the bat for reasons of transparency that I was DNI'ed (do not invite) from that property and all other Stations owned properties two years ago this March. For those unfamiliar with the term, it means Do Not Invite.

I am allowed to play at their properties but regardless of how much action I give them I am not able to receive any comps from even something as small as a buffet. I also will never get a monthly mailer. My players account was suspended as well so I can't acrue points or tiers.

With that said, I still will say that it is a gorgeous property. Back in the day I use to get free room offers and would go on staycations with my significant other. Gorgeous rooms. I once stayed in a room with my own private pool, which was a first for me.

The games are all around what could be expected to be offered to a competitive locals market. Double deck bj, decent pay vp, good promotions, contests etc and gaming limits for all.

I agree with Alan that the majority of dealers and staff I have interacted with have been pleasant.

Their is plenty of dining options such as a nice steakhouse, an Italian restaurant, a Mexican place, a noodles bar, as well as a decent size food court with the usual suspects.

They have an 18 theater cinema, a bowling alley, a full service spa, as well as a daycare for children.

Even being over a decade old, it's recognized as generally being the nicesest overall local casino in Las Vegas. Before it was built, the consensus was that Green Valley Ranch (another stations property) held that title.

My friends live in Blue Diamond, the smokiness does concern me being a non smoker. We arrive on Thursday night and leave Monday morning. We will go Friday to the Bellagio,Aria and Cosmo. I haven't been to Vegas in 6 years looking forward to it.

I haven't played there in a few years, but I did earn the "Chairman" card at Red Rock (the highest one), and was underwhelmed.

The program sucked, and was far inferior to Seven Stars at Caesars.

One nice thing, though, was that you could trade your player points directly for cash, at the rate of 1c each.

From what I've read Stations has cut way back on card benefits and no mailed a lot of players since the economic meltdown.

The only two places I'll stay in LV these days and into the foreseeable future are RR & GVR. Their VP is similar, both have an excellent selection of great dining options, movie theaters etc., their rooms and suites are very luxurious....but there is absolutely NO comparison when deciding which property is the classiest. GVR wins by ten miles, they have impeccable class and employees throughout compared to RR, and you won't understand this unless and until you spend time and overnights in both hotels, walking around and exploring everything both places offer.

As for Dan's expected cut down of their slot club in favor of CET's ridiculous program....all that does is tell me he doesn't really know that much about it. No program gives away the farm any longer--and unless you plan on staying at CET hotels on a comp around the country and you enjoy crummy pay tables and old hotels in LV, the rewards program has little overall value.

As an out-of town visitor, I get way more offers every month than I can even come close to using, and in the summer months when we're in S. Dakota I won't use them at all.

I understand when Drexel says RR won't bestow comps or slot club value upon him any longer because I've run into that elsewhere. But I'd like to hear the reason for this treatment. I'm not a big player these days but I'm up about $17,000 between RR & GVR in the past year. What does it take to get restricted? If I'm getting close I'll stop using a card because I'd rather have the money than the points, even if I have to pay for the rooms.

We're going up to Lake Tahoe & Reno for 8 days around Super Bowl week/weekend and we're staying at GVR on the way up and RR on the way back. Used to be I'd book on the Strip. Glad that bad habit has been broken.

Interesting, although probably every casino in Vegas has an abundance of smokers, usually prefixed by "chain-". For machine players, RR does offer a no-smoking area on the west side of the casino.

  17. #17
By and large, casinos that offer non-smoking areas do not have good machines compared to the rest if the place. RR is no different. But I have no problem ridiculing anyone who smokes nearby where I'm playing. In fact, I rather enjoy their dislike or discomfort, and I enjoy piling it on. It's all just simple common sense which smokers don't possess. They stink, you know they're not getting laid unless both husband and wife are equally stupid, they absolutely know it shortens their lives while making the road to their graves that much more miserable and ultimately, humiliating, and they generally look like the overall trash that they truly are.

    Congratulations Alan.

I'm not sure this was announced on this forum before...maybe it was and I missed it.

What would you like your grandchild to call you?...I'm asking because you need a forum nickname.
