Thread: Attention Conspiracy Theorists -- I found proof

Okay all you conspiracy theorists who say the dice are loaded, unfair, unbalanced and flawed -- I found proof for you. I'm not really sure what the proof is, but I recently played with a casino die that had a flaw that could impact the outcome of each throw.

I wrote a report on my website here: http://alanbestbuys.com/id454.html

At issue: some of the material used to fill a pip on the face showing a 6 was peeling away on new dice that came out of the factory box. It was obvious to the touch and I brought it to the attention of the pit, too.

So now take me further Alan. When you asked for a different die did he just have the stick give you a different one from the bowl, or did he bring a new die to the game. I don't even know if they have a "spare" die or if they have to bring in a whole new set.

And did he just put that bad one back in the bowl to stay in use or was it disposed of.

Would have loved to experimented with that die and seen if it did create a bias of any kind.

The stick dumped the bowl and I chose from the remaining three dice. I do not recall what happened to the die I returned. It was my last turn with the dice there at that casino. I continued to roll for some time following the change and then left the casino.

I was not interested in experimenting. How many hundreds or thousands of rolls would be needed to prove that there could have been a difference? I just didn't want to use a die I immediately recognized as flawed.

In reality it might not have made any difference.

    1. This isn't really proof the casino uses loaded dice. Rather, one die had an imperfection and something got messed up with it. AFAIK, a mistake was made accidentally, not intentionally.

    2. The 6 side was probably a hair lighter than all the other sides, making it more likely to show "up", meaning the field (as well as betting on 12 or 11 hopping, place/buy 10, 9, and 8) would have been slightly better bets than usual (doesn't mean their +EV).

    3. The number of rolls required to determine how "off" that die was would depend on how off the die was. Normally, you expect the 6 to show 1/6 rolls (of a die, not a set of two dice). If the true probability for that die landing with 6 up was 1/5.9, then it'll take quite a while to determine that. If, instead, the probability of it showing a 6 up was 1/4, it wouldn't take quite as long. Also, depends how strong your probability is. Do you want to be 90% sure the die is weird? 95%? 99%? 99.9999%?

But that is pretty weird. I've never heard of something like that happening to a die, and I've never seen a die with a piece peeling off of it.

I don't want to mention the casino because it was not the casino's fault. The new dice came right out of the box from the factory. By the way, I didn't see the casino test the dice or even examine them. The factory box was Paulson.

And... I wasn't serious about a conspiracy that any casino uses faulty or loaded dice. Like RS___ I think this was a manufacturing imperfection. But I am sure the conspiracy theorists over on WOV will have field day with this.

I was just curious as to whether they disposed of that die, which they should have, or put it back in the bowl and continued to use it. Actually, they should have disposed of the whole set.

They also should have checked the dice before putting them into play. We even did that in our underground games. I sure wasn't going to let bad dice into the game and be blamed for it.
