Thread: Can someone help me out regarding Atlantic City and getting suites?

I'll be traveling to Caesars AC soon as part of my Seven Stars trip and want a suite.

I played a lot in Tahoe in January (10 days straight of $50k coin-in), but I'm probably still overcomped overall, and I have never put a penny into an AC machine.

I was told that I will be getting a standard room, even though it's my Seven Stars trip.

That's understandable, as I know suites are limited there.

However, I am being told the following:

    1) They only assign suites via a "suites committee" which meets once per week, and otherwise you don't get one.

    2) You only get the suite for your entire stay, or you don't get it at all. So if your reservation partially touches a weekend, then they need to approve you based upon a weekend stay, even if most of the stay is during the week. This is true even if you wish to move back to a regular room come Friday.

    3) Even if you show up on property to check in and the place is WIDE OPEN with tons of suites available, they won't give you one unless you pay a $200 minimum "upgrade fee". (This is waived if your play qualifies, but otherwise you don't get it comp, even on your Seven Stars trip.)

#3 is what surprises me the most. I have always understood that Seven Stars on their annual trip get a suite if it's available at check-in, even if they don't otherwise qualify.

Can anyone help me here regarding this info?

Does the "$20 trick" work in AC to get a suite?

Also, can someone give me a true answer regarding bedding type?

I had wanted 2 queens, but my Vegas host told me she was told there were only doubles (fulls) there, and not queens.

So I called and changed it to a king.

Then I was told that there actually ARE queens, so they changed it to queens.

Then I called today and was told that I was mistakenly told about the queens, and there are only doubles and kings on the property. So I accepted the king.

Then I wondered if I was told accurately, so I called back the front desk and was told that there ARE queens, and they changed it back to 2 queens in the Centurion Tower.

    WTF!!!!!!

I continue to be amazed about the lack of knowledge from hosts regarding what you're allowed/not allowed. It says right there in the 7 stars terms that you have guaranteed suite upgrades, if they're available. At this point I would probably take a screenshot of that and attach it to an email.

Everything you are being told is BS. I usually go once a year to AC when I am up north at Monmouth Park. I have always had a suite and 2 queens (not that there's anything wrong with that) at Caesars AC. Very little play involved as I spend an entire day at the racetrack, with travel, and another day in Cape May.

Desk clerks can upgrade you at Caesars at least. Usually when I go there I need 2 queens and those suites seem to be hard to come by as all that's ever available is 1 king suites when they've tried this. They've never mentioned that there'd be an extra charge, but I've never actually taken a suite so I don't know for sure.

I will definitely go look for that and take a screen shot if I find it.

I will say that I have been refused suites before at other properties on Seven Stars trips, but I've never been charged an upgrade fee. The basic situation was that I was low priority to get them (behind other higher-ADT players), but that I would be entitled to one if available.

In 2015 I did have an issue in New Orleans where they tried shenanigans to deny me one. I was told "no suites are available" when I booked, and that I wouldn't be getting one. I accepted that, but decided to try my own little shenanigans to get it. When told they were unavailable (in the days before arrival), I asked if I would be given one if they were available when I showed up. I was told yes.

Well, I got there, and I went to the front desk and simply asked, "Is a suite available?"

    They said yes.

So then I said, "Well that's great, because I am a Seven Stars member here on my annual trip, and I was told I would get one if one was available!"

The front desk employee looked flustered, as if I just tricked her. She stammered, "B-b-b-but.... well, you're not assigned to that, and uhh, I don't know, I don't think you can have that, you need to speak to your host...."

She then tried to lie to me and say that these suites were being held "in case someone were to show up and pay for them", and that I wasn't entitled to it.

I demanded she make the necessary calls to figure this out. She called someone (I think a host) and sheepishly explained that I'm a Seven Stars on my annual trip and that she told me there was a suite available, and what should she do about it. I couldn't hear the other end of the conversation, but she hung up and said that I had it, though I could tell she was irritated with me (which she was from the start, once I asked for the suite.)

I might pull the same thing at Caesars AC when I arrive, especially if I know that an upgrade fee is not allowed in this case.

Dan, why stay at caesers,it's full of old people...come stay at harrahs, it's always lively with young crowd on the weekends plus better food options.

I actually like when hotels are full of old people. Young people are rowdy and obnoxious. I am 45 myself, so I am not a youngster and don't need a party crowd around me.

Anyway, I have completed my trip (actually on the flight home right now), and I didn't get a suite.

    It was really obnoxious.

The short story is that I have no play history in AC, so they didn't want me to have it, unless I paid a ridiculous upgrade fee for $350 per night.

However, they didn't want to admit this to me, so instead they tried to sell me a story that it was a "busy week" and that "there aren't any available" -- despite the fact that several suites were sitting open, available, and unreserved when I showed up.

So I showed up at the front desk and asked for a suite upgrade. They gave me the same nonsense about having to pay for the suite upgrade. I tried to tell them that all CET properties will upgrade Seven Stars to a suite on their annual trip if they have them sitting open and unreserved. They told me that they're the exception because of a limited number of suites they have.

Then they told me that it was a "really busy week" because of spring break.

I then asked the tough question: "Why does it matter how 'busy' you say it is, if we've already established that several suites are sitting open and available? Apparently the demand for suites isn't there."

Then I got a whole long story about how someone may want to show up and pay full price for the suite, and how they can't just give it to me comp for that reason. "In fact, given how busy we are, that's very likely", said the front desk manager.

I said, "Okay, that's fair. It's 7:30pm now. Would you say at midnight it's safe to say that nobody is going to suddenly show up unannounced and pay full price for a suite? Can I move to a suite at midnight if that happens?"

    She said no.

I replied, "Okay, how about 1am? How about 2am? 3am?"

She again said no, and looked flustered.

I then said, "Then how is this about being too busy? You seem to be saying that you won't give me the suite even if it's sitting completely empty at an hour that nobody would be taking it?"

"Umm... because we're busy... ummm... and, uh... this booking isn't upgradeable complimentary, and ummm .... if it were just a less busy time we could totally make this happen, but...well, you need to pay the upgrade fee."

Just a bunch of nonsense over and over. They couldn't explain how this "busy" week required me to pay for the suite if the suites were sitting empty anyway!

I then asked for a host. She looked really frustrated and called one for me. I talked to him. He gave me an even dumber story, stating that they "allocate a certain number of suites for Seven Stars annual trips, and there are no more left", which was a bunch of bullshit. Then he tried to make me feel foolish by saying, "You know, if you hadn't booked at Caesars, we could have probably gotten you a suite. Bally's and Harrah's have far more suites than Caesar's."

I called his bluff and said, "I haven't checked in yet. Let's just move my reservation over to Bally's or Harrah's, if you can book me a suite at one of those."

Then the host started stammering and realized that I caught him in more BS. He didn't mean THIS trip. He wanted me to just go away and feel it was my fault for booking Caesar's.

So of course he looked up both of those properties and I "wasn't entitled" to a suite at either of those.

He suggested I just pay the upgrade fee and let it be comped on the back end "based on play".

    Yeah right.

I ended up taking a standard room in the Centurion Tower, eating the $500 worth of food, and then immediately bouncing from AC. I no-played them.

    F Atlantic City.

I just read your trip report over on PFA. I love this comment:

"Managed this through Jewish shenanigans and negotiating skillz."

Basically, you "Jewed" them down. Alan will love that!!

I'm a Jew myself, so I can say things like this.

But I didn't (and never) say "Jewed them down". That's more derogatory.

Jewish negotiating skills are a good thing, and not an insult.

It isn't derogatory unless someone lets it be. No matter what it's called, I'd be proud of it.

Atlantic City has been a mess for decades. The rooms are overpriced. The food is overpriced. The rules, as they are, are too harsh regarding comps.

When AC opened, they were four deep at high-minimum tables. When the Taj opened, same deal. Not so with Revel, obviously. Times change. And the rest of the city deteriorated horribly.

Trump went bankrupt, what, four times, applying the pricing and comp standards currently in place. AC was too arrogant in a business cultural sense to understand how it was collapsing in a heap.

There's no real reason to go to AC. They want donations, not customers. The casinos opening in Philadelphia, Harrisburg, and Bethlehem have crushed their Pennsylvania pipeline. If they didn't bus in elderly during the week, the casinos would be empty from Monday to Friday at noon.
