Thread: Tipped at Sams Town after hitting the ALL

  1. #1
I played craps at Sams Town. They have one table with the Small, Tall, All bet. I hit the All.

Unfortunately they limit the maximum bets to $25 for the Small and Tall, and only $10 on the All.

After I won, I tipped. On the Small, I tipped $25 on the $875 payoff. Not even an acknowledgment from any of the dealers. When I got the payoff on the Tall and the All, $875 plus $1750, I tipped $100. Again, not even an acknowledgement.

Were the dealers in stunned silence because they got a tip? Or are they just rude?

Wow -- they should have been saluting you for those tips. I hate to agree with Rob, but I don't tip table games unless I cash in a poker tournament and there wasn't a mandatory tip.

    Hi Alan:

To me those are generous tips even by the Strip standards. Given the fact you were in Sam's Town, I would guess they were stunned as opposed to greedy. After your hit, did they give vibes to you that they considered you cheap or actual rudeness?

Looks like marriage has changed your tastes in craps venues.

Fab, Sams Town is only a short drive away from where Janet lives. But then... so is the strip only a short drive.

I picked Sam's Town because of this strategy:

They have a $5 minimum table. I bet $5 pass, $1 on any craps on the come out, $25 Small, $10 All, $25 Tall (when I'm shooting). When I am not shooting it's $5 on each. I also have $5 on the three way Reds for $15 total on the come out roll. So it's $75 "on top."

My strategy is this: I am not going to get rich playing at a $5 table. My only chance to make big money is to hit the STA bets. I have hit either the Small or Tall a couple of times either when I was shooting ($25) or when someone else was shooting ($5). This was my first time hitting the ALL and I have never been there when the ALL was hit.

Ironically, my roll the other night was long. I was pressing and when I finally hit the ALL (12 was the last number) I was pressed up to $135 across. Keep in mind I started with $26 across.

I tipped the same way at Caesars and Bellagio.

The Sams Town dealers were friendly, but no one said a word when I tipped. Maybe they were stunned? When I threw out the black chip on the layout and said "for the dealers" my base dealer picked up the chip and looked at me and said "do you want $75 on top like before?" And I said "no, that's for the dealers."

I presume you mean you tip on the ALL hits the same way. If you tip the exact same level even though you are betting a much lower amount on the table, you will be too much a GEORGIOUS GEORGE. Instead maybe you should place a buck for the dealers on the STA bets. Their blood pressure will go as you approach the ALL as they will know they may hit a jackpot. Dealers are like the rest of us and appreciate getting in the game and I expect you will get more of a reaction from them in such a circumstance.

Since the whole roll was pretty long, how much did you make outside of the STA bets? Does the Sams Town STA bets pay the usual CET rate or the watered down pay offs used by other casinos?

I do agree if you are going to be a local it is better to play at a smaller minimum table to increase longevity.

    Congrats on the hit.

The STA at Sam's Town pays at the same rate as Caesars, but the ALL bet has a maximum of just $10 at Sam's Town. At Caesars the max is $100, but I have never bet more than $25.

Well, I guess Rob didn't take the bait. LMAO!

Only you and Rob think this forum is about Rob.

I would have stopped after getting no response on the $25 tip. "Stunned silence" is no excuse.

Alan, as you and everyone else knows, this forum is all about Y-O-U, and your insatiable penchant for casino action. Like I said, there are multiple reasons why anyone from Calif. would move to LV. The most popular would be to buy a home they never could afford in such a crappy state as Calif. A close 2nd is because they think they'll win like crazy if they could just get closer to the casinos. Your reason was a distant 3rd--although it wouldn't surprise me if reason #2 took true precedence.

But what's this about you living close to both the Strip and Sam's Town of all places? There's absolutely no nice area in that realm, and you must be hearing gun shots ring out nightly. I though you were moving into an apt. in Summerlin??

Rob, there's seven miles between Sam's Town and the strip. There's some decent places to live in a stretch of land seven by two miles. That isn't exactly the most dangerous chunk of LV real estate. Most of it is pretty normal.

Besides, rumor has it some of the homes sponsoring semi-permanent swinger parties are a couple of blocks from Sam's Town. Hard to put a value on that, Rob.

I didn't know California was a "crappy state." I guess any state that doesn't depend much on federal funding has some disadvantages. California has the third-highest per capita income, so I guess Rob feels like those 1 percenters drag the place down the crapper.

We somehow are able to scrape by here in California. Thank God we have Oregon, Nevada and Arizona available to provide low income housing for us. California is up to number 6 in global GDP, just ahead of France and just Behind the UK. Also, California is still a donor state, sending more to the Federal Government that it receives back.

Las Vegas is tame compared to Los Angeles. Rob, you need to get out more.

California has some great attributes but to be fair it must be pointed out that they have 12% of the population and 30% of the welfare recipients in this country.

  16. #16
Of course California has a big welfare population. They come for the weather, and the friendly welcome they get.

  17. #17
Well, if they have 30% of the welfare recipients and give more to the feds than they take, perhaps the rest of the country could learn something. Hard to argue with actual math.

Obviously, there is a direct and absurd correlation in this country that doesn't get mentioned enough. The more a state takes from the feds, operating at a deficit, the more likely it is to vote Republican. So it's the people getting federal welfare who vote against the concept of federal welfare.

That suggests some deep seated guilt and psychological issues, unless they are somehow just uninformed and ignorant of the feds propping them up.

If I were on welfare, I'd rather wake up each day in California than most other states. Well, maybe Hawaii would be at the top of the list, but you had better love the beach.

Maybe they were just indifferent or desensitized Alan. A lot of these dealers have probably seen it all.

I was at the Aladdin once (before it changed to Planet Hollywood) and saw a guy lose $100,000 in about 3 minutes playing blackjack. The dealer drew several 5 card 21's in a row busting the guy out.

I sat down at the table after the guy left. I asked the dealer if he ever felt sorry for the people who lost fortunes. He had this almost incredulous look on his face as he glanced over at the pit boss.

"Sorry for them? I don't give a shit. We're more worried about making a mistake or a break in procedure when maximum bets are in play."

There has only been one casino where I felt the dealers and pit people actually cared if you lost money -- Caesars Palace. I have seen them stop players who were losing too much. I had a pit boss who came over to me and told me to take a break because the table was cold. I had a floor person who stopped giving me markers (even though I had plenty of credit left). I was at a craps table when a box man said to all of us at the table "the dice are cold, go away." That has never happened anywhere else.
