Thread: Upgraded forum software

  1. #1
I finally got around to upgrading vBulletin to the version equivalent to the one I am using on my other forum, pokerfraudalert. So we've moved from like 2010 to 2012.

I'm sticking with this version on both because I can easily move over any mods I made on pokerfraudalert here if I so desire.

Anyway, if you see anything funny happening, let me know. In the meantime, I will use this thread to explain any differences in functionality which come up.

The biggest difference you will find will be the uploading of attachments.

I killed that complicated uploading system.

Now you get a box where you can either upload from your computer or enter a URL. Should be a lot simpler for people to attach things.

Also, there is a "new" enhanced post interface, which more mimics a word processor. You can turn it on in your settings. By default, everything is still the old way.

I've also enabled "nested" quotes, so quotes of quotes will show. See next post.

Also, there is now a video button (see the little film icon), where you can post videos. Just enter the URL there and it will post it for you.

Forum is now running through a secure protocol (https), and also has a new icon (look at the tab for this window).

    This concludes tonight's upgrades.

I see the dice icon instead of the default forum vBulletin icon, not sure if this forum has too much sensitive information to protect to warrant a SSL certificate purchase. Either way, great work on the upgrades!

I also noticed the ability to subscribe for updates via browser RSS Feeds and a longer Edit comment window. Both good features.

Here's how much the SSL certificate cost me:

Well, it did cost me time, but that's it.

I installed it mainly because Google is penalizing sites which don't use SSL.
