Thread: Vegas VS LA parking fees

  1. #1
The Vegas casinos have been justifying their parking fees saying that in other cities other hotels and venues charge for parking.

I've always thought that parking here in LA and the LA area was much lower than in Vegas. I've been to shopping malls here where the parking is $1 to $3, and I've been to restaurant valets where the charge is $6 or $8, and there are office buildings where the charge has been $10 to as much as $18.

But tonight I heard from a friend who told me they are staying at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Los Angeles where, in addition to the $300 a night room charge, they are paying FORTY-NINE DOLLARS A DAY for parking.

I stayed at some non-casino hotel in downtown New Orleans like 2 years ago and valet was like 30 or 40 bucks a night. I don't remember the name but it was either a Marriot or something on par with Marriot. Couldn't self park either. I was surprised since Marriot isn't particularly known for being upscale/expensive in my opinion and is basically just a regular nice/decent hotel.

I've paid ridiculous amounts to park at hotels in odd places that you would not think would cost much. Like $20 or higher a night in midwestern or dust bowl state capitals and small towns. For self parking usually as while they're better chain hotels - Hilton, Marriott, etc. - they aren't that upscale to offer valet, and barring a long walk or feeling unsafe I prefer self park.

My favorite DC hotel is up to $59 for valet which is all they offer. The last time I was there I think it was $40. So next time I go back that will become the most I have ever paid a night to park at a hotel. My previous high was about 10 years ago in NYC where I had to pay $48 a night for valet near Times Square (self park was a few dollars little less but I opted for valet).

Leave it to this experienced idiot....who claims to have stayed at "some downtown hotel in NO" a whole two years ago but just can't remember what hotel it was....and who is so worldly and travel-hardened that he can assert how downtown Marriotts "aren't known for being particularly upscale or expensive".

Maybe if he didn't rot his useless life away inside casinos, he wouldn't sound so stupid on just about every subject.

Last Summer parking was $39 plus tax (valet only) at Doubletree Suites Santa Monica. Close to pier and had a golf cart to shuttle you to back and forth. but not worth $39. Rooms were $300 plus.

Last week was at Hyatt Place Anaheim resort, parking was $17 (self park) plus tax. Pretty standard for the area.
