Thread: Stay cation at Flamingo

Oh, and Alan, can you explain the incident with your girlfriend being treated like a grandma?

What made those young employees tell her to go to the kiddie pool? I doubt they just approached her out of nowhere and said that.

Did she perhaps complain about noise or rowdiness at the "adult" pool?

I'm 20 years younger than Alan, and even I feel like an old guy at Cosmo.

As far as room prices go at Cosmo, they are reasonable during the week, and outrageous during the weekend and holidays.
I was at the Cosmo once. I thought it was filled with the under 30 crowd. And the minimum bets at the craps tables was $100.

When my GF showed up at the entrance to the pool area, there was someone checking IDs. The first time she showed up, she had her room key and her 7 Stars Companion card. She did not have her ID. She was refused entrance. She returned to our room to get her ID.

Second time at the pool entrance, the "checker" (young guy in his early 30s she said) actually made her remove her sun glasses to verify that she had the correct ID. Then he said to her that she would feel more comfortable at the other pool which was the kids pool where, my GF said, mothers and grandmothers were watching the kids. She said she wanted the main pool, and he continued to urge her to go to the kids pool. She went to the main pool.

She also told me that service in the pool area was horrible. No one was picking up used towels that were all over the place, she had difficulty ordering a drink but was able to flag down a cocktail server with her Seven Stars card -- but then the drink never came.

    Sounds like terrible service.

It's hard to complain to anyone about the age-related stuff, because the employees could defend themselves by just claiming they were trying to direct guests to the place where they were most likely to enjoy themselves.

However, the horrible drink service is definitely complaint-worthy.

She probably didn't want to bother, but I would have demanded a manager, made some angry complaints (especially being a Seven Stars), and probably have been comped some drinks for the whole thing.

Dan we had reservations for two nights. We checked out after one and I made it clear we weren't happy and that's why we were leaving early.

Who did you make it clear to?

If you say it to the front desk, they give you a curt, "I'm sorry", and then forget about you as soon as you walk away.

To have any real effect, you need to complain directly to the manager of the department where the trouble has occurred.

To answer Alan's question, I just received an email this morning touting "select dates" in July and August for $109 a night plus $35 resort fee plus tax. The other nights cost more. That's a hefty tariff. Jbjb, why do you like the place? My girlfriend's daughter attended the grand opening of Cosmo. It appears to be for younger people who don't necessarily know how to gamble.

Oh, and I suspect the pool checkers had been coached to steer adults away from the main pool because of the Electronic Daisy Festival demographic. They had just been swamped for the three previous nights with glitter-covered festival goers and were probably sick of keeping the pool equivalent of Peaceniks and Hell's Angels out of each other's way.

I was at the new Residence Inn next to the outlet malls, and the 7 AM Sunday breakfast buffet's opening guests, who had just stepped off the shuttle van, were a guy in a thong covered with glitter, someone who looked like RuPaul with a massive boob job, some glit-covered dudes shooting for the Thomas Magnum-shorts gay boy toy look, and a 350-pound girl busting out of a tutu like Charles Barkley in a 38-short blazer. There was a culture clash moment when the families-with-kids contingent stepped out of the elevator into the same buffet.

Pool checkers were probably trying to keep the cultures separate.

I decided to post photos on my website here: http://alanbestbuys.com/id461.html

It really was a great room. But after the room, it went downhill fast staring with breakfast in-room dining.

redietz: the only culture the pool checker was trying to keep separate was my girlfriend who is older than 30 from everyone else under 30.

No excuse for it, and I don't agree with it. I'm just trying to understand it.

It's very simple: my girlfriend is 54. She is beautiful and she is intelligent and she is charming, but she's 54.

Just reading this message board, these ploppies on here don't know how to gamble either!

And that cost is without play. Cosmo was merely a suggestion. Anything that isn't a Caesars property is an upgrade. Again, peace of mind and you won't be mistreated by those Caesars dumps.

And Todd, nobody said he had to "hang out" there. But hey, if you guys prefer the crusty old people, to each their own.

I prefer the crusty old people. I don't see much advantage hanging out with the club-bopping set. If I wanted to hang with that demographic, there are plenty of clubs in LA.

I also vote for crusty old.

    Cosmo was merely a suggestion.

Yet it was a good one. "Cosmo Crowd" is a term that is not limited to those who are actually at the Cosmopolitan but is a derisive term that embraces all those 'strutting swells' who wander around gawking at others, gawking at decorations, being gawked at and in general focusing on anything that is under thirty and dressed fashionably.

This is not to say that the various peacocks and their peahens don't enter the casino. They sometimes do and often have actually been seen to gamble. Some of them even know a bit about how to play some of the games.

Yes, table minimums are often high and certainly variable but just about everything at The Cosmo is arbitrary, capricious and whimsical. Its Vegas. Vegas caters to all market segments. The Cosmo segment emphasises the Strutting Swells.

Its a nice place to visit or have a drink or gawk at a chandelier but do your gambling elsewhere.

I'd like to stay at Cosmo for the balcony over the fountains. It would be cool to sit outside of the room at night.
Take off that stupid mask you big baby.

You mean the Bellagio fountains, right?

It's not really "over" them, but you do get a different angle (and are much higher) than what you get viewing them from the Augustus Tower at Caesars, so that's pretty cool.

Also, as you mentioned, you're outside.

I did find it hard to enjoy the balcony when it was 100 degrees at night in the summer, or when it was 35 degrees and windy at night in December, but during nicer times of the year, it's a great thing to have.

The one thing that does suck about the Cosmo is that rooms don't have refrigerators, and you apparently can't order one.

I've stayed at the Flamingo a time or two. One time I ended up in a "smoking optional" suite. Looks like it's the exact same as Alan posted pics of his. TV with a few couches, dining table, 1/2 bath in the main area then a bedroom with a "big" bathroom. Given that it was a smoking room, there were ashtrays and matches, as you'd expect. I looked at the ashtrays and noticed they weren't even clean...a few cigarettes with ashes in the ashtray. The matchbook had more than half of the matches missing. Thought that was kinda hoakey.

Makes you wonder if they gave you clean linens and glasses.
