Thread: October 29th Poker Tournament at Commerce Casino

  1. #1
There will be another poker tournament at the Commerce Casino on October 29th, and this one will benefit two worthwhile organizations.

The first organization is the Renal Support Network which helps those people with kidney disease and maybe on dialysis and waiting for a kidney transplant. As you know, I was fortunate to have a kidney transplant about three years ago after my kidneys failed which forced me to go on dialysis.

The second organization that will benefit from the tournament is Love Across the Ocean which helps children and families in Vietnam.

This tournament will have a lot of celebrities playing. Take a look at the Renal Support Network's website with info about the tournament, and here is the link:

Also, if you buy your tickets/entries early there is a discounted price. See the website for details.

Some of the celebrities who say they are good poker players (or pretend to be good poker players) and plan to attend are: Leyna Nguyen of KCBS/KCAL (watch out, she does know how to play), Jack Black (yep, the star Jack Black), Matthew Borlenghi of
General Hospital, Quinton Aaron of The Blind Side, Jennifer Elise Cox of The Brady Bunch Movie, Amy Lyndon of NCIS, and Men the Master Nguyen, the famous professional poker player.

Now, some guy by the name of Alan Mendelson is also supposed to be there playing poker, or at least trying to play poker, and I wouldn't be surprised if he will be sitting at Men the Master Nguyen's table just so Men the Master can bust him out. You might call that Mendelson fellow "cannon fodder" for Men the Master.

Men the Master is the pro famous for saying "all you can eat, baby" as he pushes all his chips in. Usually, he eats the other guy's chips. I wonder if he shows up at tournaments with blood dripping from the corners of his mouth? LOL

One of the proposition bets at today's tournament is: how many hands will I see before I bust out? Please, don't tell me the over/under is 2 hands.

Tourney starts at 3pm. Registration is at 1:30pm. I'm already a nervous wreck.

I spent most of the evening practicing my moves for the tournament. Here's my favorite move: I say all in, show my cards, stand up and briskly walk out of the room. After several hours of practice here at home, I think I have this move perfected.

Sure enough Men the Master was at my first table and I survived and beat him in one hand with a bigger flush. Now on break and at a different table. Big turnout and thank you everyone for helping these two charities.

Only four tables left. I'm back with Men at table #4. Annie Duke still in.

Busted out with QQ to AA but I outlasted Men who suffered a true bad beat.

My thoughts about playing with Men The Master Nguyen and his bad beat are on this page: http://alanbestbuys.com/id145.html

I just want to say that it was a great event. Our tournament was in a private ballroom and the buffet was absolutely terrific and continued all evening throughout the tournament. It was a lot of fun with many Hollywood celebrities and poker celebrities there.

Sometimes when the cause is good and the stakes are low, players do crazy things, like go all-in blind.

Men The Master was asked to go all-in blind one hand during the re-buy time of the tourney to help spur the action at the tournament. He did. All-in blind. Turned out he was holding King-4 off-suit... and beat three other all-ins when he hit a king on the turn. As luck will have it, he won an all in with one king, but couldn't win an all-in with a pair of kings.
