Thread: Don't you just love streaks?

Don't you just love streaks? A year ago I was at Caesars to take a photo of a roulette game that was almost all RED except for one spin. Now, the same game had wheel spins that were almost all BLACK except for one spin. See the photos: http://alanbestbuys.com/id242.html

Gosh... I wish I had my camera going for those 18 elevens in a row.

The best streak I ever had (and it happened to be monitored at the time) was in a football handicapping contest. I wound up winning 17 in a row. The neat part, however, was that when I hit 11 in a row or thereabouts, I started doing little articles about it. So I checked insurance tables and matched up odds-against-dying-of with the odds against winning that many in a row. I decided, after the 11th in a row, that it would be cool to match the odds against "dying-by-reptile." I managed to do that with the 17th. Two games were in progress. I lost one, but the winner finished before the loser, so I managed to match dying-by-reptile.

Since it's WSOP time, I thought I'd mention that I read somewhere that the year Johnny Chan won the Main Event title, he won 10 coin flip hands in a row.

Did you watch the roulette game as those reds were hit? If not, don't be so sure what you see is accurate. Those boards are notorious for being wrong (not saying this one is).

And you could've had a film crew for those supposed 11's. They didn't happen!

JBJB... JBJB... JBJB... such a doubting Thomas. Yes, the boards happened like that at Caesars.

Yes, I watched a random roller throw 18 elevens in a row at craps.

Sorry you weren't there. Shit happens.

I've seen other streaks too. There was the time I played craps at Caesars at a full table... and one after another all 12 players at the table threw a point and then immediately sevened-out.

I might be one of the few players who once finished shooting and didn't seven out. True story:

Years ago I arrived at Caesars around 2am. My room was not ready. I was with a girlfriend. Hotel manager said room would not be ready for another hour... so we went to the craps pit.

I walked up to an empty table and bought in for a couple of hundred... and went on a tear. It was about 2:45am when the hotel manager came to the table and said the room was ready. The GF demanded "let's go." I took my chips off the table EXCEPT for the passline bet which had to stay since it was a contract bet. It would remain until the next shooter took over my hand.

I can only assume that when another player came to the able that my $10 was lost.

How much did you have on the pass line? Did you offer to donate the pass line bet, if it won, to the crew? Did the dealers offer to hold your winnings it if hit until you could collect?

You are right, that is an usual situation.

It was a $10 table, and I had $10 on the passline.

Since it's a contract bet it had to stay till resolved. Yes, I actually did say "for the dealers" if it won. But they did say they would hold it for me if it won.

I've been at the tables at Caesars where a player had to go to a show or dinner and had money on the fire bet and already four numbers had been hit. They colored up their other chips and then returned after the show or dinner to collect on the fire. That is routine and has happened several times. The money is usually collected and kept by the bank (dealers chips) with a "off" lamer and the floormen knew what was going on.

I think most players don't realize that the dealers/crew will gladly accommodate players. I recall when a shooter had a real monster hand going -- he already had the dice for about 25 minutes when he said he had to go to the bathroom. They held up the game while he went. No problem, no rush.

I was at a craps table in Harrah's New Orleans when a Don't player was getting wiped out and decided to leave the table. The boxman reminded him that he had a $1 firebet still in action and three unique firebet numbers had been hit. I recall that by this time about six pass lines had been hit (but there was some duplicate numbers). The Don't guy said "give the firebet to the dealers." The Box then talked to a pit supervisor and then told the Don't guy that they could not shift the firebet to the dealers under some kind of policy. In response, the Don't guy just walked off.

The fourth firebet number never was hit.

The fire bets are placed on the layout for the player position. Dealer firebets are placed usually in a position that just says "firebet" on it.

Frankly, I don't know why the bet could have just been given to the dealers if there was a payoff. But if that's the house rule, then that's the house rule.

At casinos Ive played at it was not unusual to hold payoffs for players.

I once was playing craps at Caesars, and had to go to a drawing for cars in a ballroom. Shooter was on a hot roll. I said to the base dealer, "leave my bets up and just pile up the winnings, no pressing" and that's what they did.

But alas, only three more rolls after I left the table and yes the winnings were waiting for me on the table when I got back.

I think it is a great problem to have - one needs to leave the table for some reason.... GF, show, dinner, bladder, etc. But, you're on a heater. What do you do? Well it's a hot table, so assuming you're up as one should be, I power press my bets almost daring the dice to go against the table. Might as well pour it on if you're going to be late for a show, dinner, stand cross legged, or get the ire of the GF. There's no way I leave that table until it's over.

I've seen Celine's show more than a dozen times. Once (when Caesars had craps tables in the Forum casino) I actually sent my GF ahead to go to the show while I continued to throw the dice. I had already seen the show a couple of times so being late or even missing it wouldn't have mattered. But as fate would have it, it wasn't more than five or six more throws and I was out.

But yes... I would love to miss dinner or a show because a hot roll continued and continued. That would be memorable!

And much appreciated by the Tray Lizards who have to handle what they assume is beer left in a plastic cup on the beverage ledge.

True story: at the Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens (near downtown Los Angeles) a guy gets up from a poker table, walks to the side of the room, whips it out, and pees on the floor and goes back to his seat at the table.

Yes, he was removed from the tournament and banned for life.
