Is it possible that BJ was downgraded because of the promotion for the free play vouchers? And could it be a change because of the shift/time?

Not likely. When casinos switch to 6:5, they rarely come back. I think I have witness two times that casinos reversed. For one, it involves changing the felt on the table. Probably not all that expensive but, kind of a hassle.

There was a period a couple years ago, when one of the lower strip MGM properties was switching back and forth. In one of there pits, they offered 3:2 during the week and 6:5 on weekends when it was busier and people would play anything. I think they were switching out the tables though, not the felt.

This is one of those decisions made by some accountant/geek rather than the knowledgeable casino people that used to run the casinos. 6:5 squeezes a few more dollars, but it doesn't take long for the players to realize they are not winning as much as they used to...That that extra 1% house edge (on top of the normal house edge) really makes a difference. So guess what...some players stop playing that store. Now they have a smaller customer base to try to squeeze. It's a really bad business model. Very short term thinking.

A very similar thing occurs when lowering the VP paytables. They squeeze a few more cents/dollars out short-term, but then lose customers and the end result is a smaller customer base to squeeze anything from.

I’m obviously against 6:5 BJ and shit VP paytables. But I don’t think it’s that bad of a decision for the casino to make. People play shittily enough, it doesn’t add a significant amount to their overall theoretical loss. There’s also enough variance that you probably wouldn’t even be able to notice the difference short term. It’d be interesting to see 20 simmed sessions, 10 with a bad paytable or 6:5 BJ and the other 10 with a good paytable or 3:2 BJ and see if you can pick out which ones were the bad paytable ones and which were good paYtable ones.

You're saying the Casino, with all the long term math on their side, is thinking short-term. Like Rob???
