Thread: Back from 2 week vacation

  1. #1
Hi everyone. I have been mostly absent from this forum because I was first busy with the WSOP, then got sick, then went on vacation for 2 weeks to the Canadian Rockies and Yellowstone.

I'm now back, and will be active here once again.

Glad to see the forum didn't die in my absence.

Glad you recovered from that cold. When I feel sick in the Rio, I immediately think Legionnaires!

You'll be glad to know I sent a partial cred pack to Alan. Rob had decided I wasn't me, and I'd hate for my plane to go down and for people to think I had been foolin' 'em.

Congrats on a good finish in the Main Event. I watched the last three or four nights. I was trying to root for John Hesp, but it was hard, as he did more things wrong than right. The hand he was eviscerated was a mental horror. I know almost nothing, but the betting seemed consistently undersized to me the last two tables.

    Anyway, welcome back.

    Welcome back, Dan!

We settled all our differences while you were gone.

Yes, Rob and I are bosom buddies now.

Nothing changed, the same 5 or 6 old guys locked in a endless round robin debate with no end in sight. Alan seems to be enjoying himself more not having to be the board police.

What was your final total from all events at the 2017 WSOP? That was a nice finish in the main event, was just wondering how your did overall in all the events you entered.

When you're in a room full of people coughing, sneezing, and picking their noses--and then everyone ignorantly touches all the cards & chips that these people spread their germs across--more than a few people will end up sick. It makes no sense why someone would want to put themselves thru something like that....esp. when winning is such a miniscule chance.

Egos, I guess. And indifferently poor personal habits.

Maybe he caught MRSA as it drifted over from the noodle slurpers at Gold Coast.

I guess hanging around dirty video poker buttons with degenerate smokers isn't any better.

The nastiest, most toxic place in the casino is the gaming floor. AFAIK the poker rooms are all non smoking. I wonder how many of these older guys will have respiratory problems from the decades of inhaling second hand smoke?

Where did Dan finish in the main event?

Rob is the guy that washes his hands in the restroom then grabs the door knob with his bare hand on the way out.

At Caesars Palace, the craps crew refers to it as "casino cough." That's what you get after a weekend there if you're not careful. NEVER put your hands near your face when playing in a casino. Wash thoroughly (shower) after. That means change your clothes, too.

No doubt. Casino chips are some of the dirtiest things in a casino. Buttons on slot/VP are about the same.

There is no difference between chips, buttons or even money. It's all filthy.

I wouldn't even want to touch your cell phone. I know you use your cell phone while sitting on the toilet. Don't deny it.

Well, most casinos don't supply newspaper.

We travel with an old set of clothes we call our "casino clothes". These get sealed in bags so as not to contaminate the rest of the luggage. We also carry disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer while playing. We limit our time on the casino floor to a couple of hours max to cut down on the inhaled smoke.

Sadly, people keep congratulating me on my "deep finish" in the WSOP Main Event, but I don't deserve any congratulations.

I didn't cash. It was very disappointing. I came into Day 3 (the day everyone cashed at the end) with above-average chips, and missed cashing by about 350 spots, which constituted about 4% of the field.

I played great on Days 1 and 2, winning lots of pots where I had no hand. I did a great job of winning when my opponent didn't have it, and losing the minimum when they did.

Then Day 3 came and everything went wrong, namely that I kept running into big hands of my opponents over and over.

I got a brief reprieve when I doubled up with a set of 3s against a straight draw (which missed after I went all-in and he called), but then I lost every hand and was out about 1-2 hours later.

This WSOP was very frustrating. I played 8 events, plus a $1100 buyin satellite. I ran deep in 6 of those 8 events (including the Main), and also ran deep in the satellite. Of those 7 deep runs, I only cashed once -- in the cheapest-buyin event I played (the $888 Crazy Eights event).

What could have been a great series turned into a fail.

I was the stone bubble boy on the first event I played, and that set the tone for the entire series.

    Untrue.

Chips and slot buttons see FAR more hands touching them per day than money, which typically changes hands once or twice, and then sits in a wallet or cash drawer for awhile.

Viruses like rhinovirus (the common cold) die on surfaces after about 3 hours. This is why the common cold is mostly transmitted by either air (sneezes, coughs) or by touching objects very shortly after the infected person touched it (door handles, casino chips, slot machine buttons, etc).

Money does not have this problem, as usually only one person has touched any money you received within the past 3 hours.

I know there are bacterium on money which last a lot longer, but you are in much less danger of contracting any ailment from those than you are with things like the rhinovirus or norovirus.

Dan is very defensive of our money supply. He doesn't think there's much bacteria on our money. I think this is because Dan's mattress that he sleeps on is stuffed with money.

For the rest of of us, do a simple Google search for dirty money and bacteria (there's also cocaine on our money) and see this: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/dirty-mo...s-of-bacteria/

Dan, I toured Yellowstone in May. Yellowstone Lake was still frozen over. Here's a couple of buffalo shots. The first one I drove right up on this guy.
