Alan, I'll try to answer both you and bocce at the same time. This is my 5th out of state road trip since March and New Mexico makes the 12th state I've scouted. Two of the trips were highly profitable. With the other three all I could do is defray the costs. But the two states I found that were good has been well worth the cost. I'll be returning to those states in the future.

My expenses are hotel, meals, gas. I mainly stay in the 2 star hotels. I judge everything off the Motel 6 price which is generally the cheapest price you will find. But sometimes through Trivago I get a 3 star for a 2 star price. I think the average cost I'm paying per night is about $60. I'm running through 1 to 2 tanks of gas per day. I have to eat no matter where I'm at so I don't really think of that as a major expense.

For the most part, this is what happens when I hit a casino. The first thing I do is get the card. Most places will give you about $10 in freeplay for signing up. Then I look for the vulturable games to run the freeplay on. There is a very new crop of vulturable games in most of the casinos these days. And I sweep though the UX's when I find them. After I get that done I scout the casino for video poker or any type of vulturable game. Most of the stuff I see is crap, like 7/5 Double Double. Most of the places I've been in won't give their players better than a 97% video poker game.

And that's pretty much it. Once I've swept through all the vulture plays there ain't a whole lot to do so I just head to the next casino. My expenses have been averaging about $130 a day and I've recouped about half of it. But like I said, the two states where I found good plays that I can return to have been well worth the time and cost to scout all these states out.

I hibernated in Montana for over nine years. I was getting highly curious as to what the casino floors around the country look like today. The main difference I see between then and now is VIDEO LINE GAMES HAVE TAKEN OVER THE WORLD.

Personally, I would scout the machines first and only get a card if there was something worthwhile playing. Saving your new member status can be very very valuable. I cant tell you how many times value players/ new AP's/ recreational players have looked at me with their sad face after telling me they allready signed up at a location to get their $10 in free play and a free T-shirt. I hold out untill I'm getting at least a few hundred in EV, or i know i'm going to be putting in a significant amout of coin in.

It can be a tough decision. I'm avoiding a few Vegas casinos in the hope that they'll offer more attractive signup bonuses. Occasionally, an existing membership will lapse if you stay away long enough, thus qualifying for new member benefits.

Good advice, although if you're on the road, you may not be able to redeem future mail offers -- which severely limits playable options.

Thanks for the reply. I don't know why video poker isn't more popular. Many of the newer vp games are rare in New Mexico. According to Action Gaming's inventory at video poker dot com, only one NM casino has more than 25 of its machines: Sandia has 46, among 2300 total slots.

By comparison, Green Valley Ranch Station has slightly fewer slots overall, but 357 Action Gaming machines.

Rob, could you please do your research before posting. I hate having to correct my PR man in public. Albuquerque is over 5000 feet in elevation whereas Phoenix is just 1000 feet elevation. A big difference in the weather between the two. Albacrackee doesn't get the blazing hot like Phoenix. But that's okay. I know you'll do a better PR job for me in your next post.
Remember "guess where I'm headed next"? One would expect Az., & especially Nv. for such a big-time gambler who stays at Motel 6's on road trips. Says a lot about what a successful life you've led. But one thing you've got going for you: you're future status in this world will be the same no matter where you go. You will die a lonely old man, and you can thank gambling, smoking, drinking, and being too lazy to ever get a decent job, for that disgrace.

Rob, have you considered writing for greeting card companies? I hear those gigs pay better than Gaming Today, and you seem to have a real knack for it.

That's a good way of putting it. Rob used to have some measure of usefulness in his posts. Now that's totally gone. It must be the heat.
Alan, this thread has turned into an advertisement for Indian casinos that any knowledgeable player understands cannot be trusted, led by a failed gambler/failed person with an 80/20 probability of landing in jail with a dui just about anywhere he drives. Any why anyone would listen to, believe or care what a lifelong slug like mickey, who can't afford anything other than cheap motels, has to say about the gaffed machines in these places as if they were sanctioned by real gaming commissions, is totally funny. It's like you people believe in professional wrestling, so this show is real too.

I suspect by your constant mention of GT, that you loved to hate to love to read all that I wrote. Which leads me to believe most of it tore you apart.

That ended 9 years ago red....time to let it go?

I liked your columns, Rob. I probably read roughly a third of them, being as I was in LV about a hundred days out of the year. I didn't find it out of place in GT, as there were also keno columns and photos of girls in bikinis. It's a shame people, as you say, wise up. All this internet info has pretty much stamped out the credibility of alien abductions, astrologers picking football games, keno strategists, and martingale vp players with Rube Goldberg systems.

Ah, for the good old days. I don't think your columns tore me up, but I am tearing up as I think of the naivete of times past. Do you know when USA Today first published, it had two full pages of Friday ads from sports services claiming records like 93-4 and 104-12 against the spread? USA Today eventually wised up. It's a shame GT also wised up vis-a-vis your columns. Who knows? Maybe some of their advertisers got buried using your front page strategy and complained. The only reason USA Today dropped the nonsensical sports service ads was that they got flooded with complaints.

Those were great days. Civilians didn't know nothin' about nothin', eh? Now, when somebody claims to be "the world's greatest vp player," folks want numbers. They want math. It's a damned shame.

This joint is fricking huge. A mile and a quarter long and 8000 machines. Already found a fairly good play, 50 cent NSUD prog., .5% meter, royal at $2600.

No motel 6 for you tonight if you can get some time in on that, they will probably give you a room and food(I assume they have rooms?) Not to mention the $25 in free play added to your play.

I left Rob's book in an outhouse. When I came back most of the pages were ripped out. So I ripped a few more out myself.

Rob's articles were the same old regurgitated crap issue after issue after issue. All one had to do was take the first article, stick it in the back pocket, then read it once a week. Because all of his articles were exactly the same as the first article.

I said it was a fairly good play. I didn't say I was going to play it. The place got fairly busy in the afternoon and I did pretty good on the vulturables. I think a guy could do alright between the poker room and the vulturables, and an occasional fat progressive. But I'm not that guy. I have much better stuff to work.

How many times is a phony like you gonna keep insinuating how you are, using your own stupid over-cliched word, "vulturing" and "I have much better stuff to work" nonsense? Yes mickey, everyone knows you can find this baloney at Indian casinos in the middle of nowhere, and at the same time that you choose to announce games on vpfree & here that you pretend are super duper plays, you make believe there's even better ones you're saving only for those who know the secret handshake.

See why you're the laughing stock of the internet yet? And understand why most people shy away from saying so....although as you've seen, lots of them are tired of your drunken, vulgarity-filled rants.

Hey, Rob. Why don't you make a post about it over on vpFREE. No, wait. That won't work. You've been banned from that forum. Well, how about you make a comment about it on LVA Sports. No, that's right. You've been banned from there too. Oh, well. Then maybe you could say something about it on WoV. Oh, yeah. I forgot. You've been banned from there too. Why the nerve of all those people. Banning a nice guy like you. Just goes to show, doesn't it.

Well, maybe you should just drop this current issue and go back to an old one. Yeah, that's it. How 'bout you go back to how I'm stuck in Montana, broke, on food government assistance, no car, no way to get around to out of state places....no, no, I guess that won't work either seeing as how I put up all those pictures of the different casinos I'm visiting in far away places from Montana. It kind of makes you look like an idiot doesn't it? Dammit, Rob, you just can't win for losing.

Hey, I know! You could go back to the Nine Years Ago Tonight thread and take it even further down the sewer than you have. Yeah, that's it! Why don't you go do that.

Hey, Rob!! Check this out. I'm at Choctaw Durant! Whoopeeeee!!!!

Rob, you're not going to believe this. I found a 9/6 Jacks triple meter in the joint. The straight flush was at $623. It took me six hours to snap it off. And I also ran extremely well on quads. I booked an $1120 win. That puts this scouting trip, after expenses, into the black for the first time. Hey, Rob, it's nice knowing you have my back. Thank you so much again for your support.

I guess I found the only machine in the casino that them damn Indians didn't gaff.

A couple of vulturables in the joint but no plays so I got my hat.
