Alan, I'll try to answer both you and bocce at the same time. This is my 5th out of state road trip since March and New Mexico makes the 12th state I've scouted. Two of the trips were highly profitable. With the other three all I could do is defray the costs. But the two states I found that were good has been well worth the cost. I'll be returning to those states in the future.
My expenses are hotel, meals, gas. I mainly stay in the 2 star hotels. I judge everything off the Motel 6 price which is generally the cheapest price you will find. But sometimes through Trivago I get a 3 star for a 2 star price. I think the average cost I'm paying per night is about $60. I'm running through 1 to 2 tanks of gas per day. I have to eat no matter where I'm at so I don't really think of that as a major expense.
For the most part, this is what happens when I hit a casino. The first thing I do is get the card. Most places will give you about $10 in freeplay for signing up. Then I look for the vulturable games to run the freeplay on. There is a very new crop of vulturable games in most of the casinos these days. And I sweep though the UX's when I find them. After I get that done I scout the casino for video poker or any type of vulturable game. Most of the stuff I see is crap, like 7/5 Double Double. Most of the places I've been in won't give their players better than a 97% video poker game.
And that's pretty much it. Once I've swept through all the vulture plays there ain't a whole lot to do so I just head to the next casino. My expenses have been averaging about $130 a day and I've recouped about half of it. But like I said, the two states where I found good plays that I can return to have been well worth the time and cost to scout all these states out.
I hibernated in Montana for over nine years. I was getting highly curious as to what the casino floors around the country look like today. The main difference I see between then and now is VIDEO LINE GAMES HAVE TAKEN OVER THE WORLD.
