3-of-a kind if there ever was one ......
Thanks for the glowing review, Rob. I can always count on you.

Rob's an expert on personal presentation in public, other people's sex lives, and identifying transgenders by their voice. LOL -- who knew!?!

We're all awaiting Rob's G2E panel on video poker, which I hear is being videotaped by Alan as a retirement present to himself. Anyone wishing to upgrade Rob's wardrobe for the video is invited to send shirts to Alan's office address, which I will list in a subsequent post. If you really feel the need to send the shirts now, however, you are invited to look up the office address yourself.

The reason why a "show" like that has so few listeners is because of the reputation of the host(s) and in this case, not mickey. I'm sure his hobo-gambler/alcoholic/hermit/loner lifestyle attracted a few more listeners than usual, because as we all know, he's posted so many drunken rants on various forums over the years that's elicited many humorous comments from normal/shocked people. He's also one of those MEAN drunks--the type that gets in bar fights, has an annoying loudmouth, and beats on women. That draws interest.

He went on to claim that he "compartmentalizes" his alcoholism and his gambling, which anyone who listened who's ever studied social sciences well knows, is 100% impossible. This fact is clearly why he's always been alone, along with the sad fact of course that he's totally incapable of providing for anyone else or even for himself w/o assistance. Why anyone cannot simply sit down at a bar and just have a social drink or two before getting up to leave, is a pathetic commentary on one's life. The legacy is stunning. If he had such an easy, successful gambling life, void of the challenges of work, of family, and of responsibility, why the need to close down bars? This is why it is very easy to tell that his made up stories are worth more than he is.

So why the GWAE characters would have him on as a guest is not too far fetched: aside from all the crazy but obligatory talk about "exploiting" and "vulturing" keno & penny slots, mickey has a life multiple levels lower than the avg. recreational gambler, complete with the typical array of social issues one would expect from someone who has never contributed a thing to society. It is, in fact, a guy-check to have him on. "NO ONE wants to end up like him", which is very likely what the avg. Joe took away from this guest.

I give him an A- for his effort--for the parts I heard of course. And compared to the "Mike & Ike" hosts, he is far more interesting to listen to.

My hosted vp platform will be at a suite in Palazzo and is by invitation only. I don't do the inviting. I'm getting paid a decent amount, and I'm giving it all to Wounded Warriors.

I'll wear an Italian wife-beater shirt. There's still time to mail one in to Alan.

I guess that's the same as hosting a G2E panel, eh?

I was thinking of having a hosted sports platform at the Orleans Wednesday evening. It'll be in the lounge area behind the race book. Invitation only. I don't do the inviting.

Also not quite a G2E panel discussion, but who keeps track of such details?

Mickey I was very impressed with your eloquence. I don't think I heard even one uhh??

I think it was an interesting program from three perspectives:

    1. You explaining your gambling in Montana which to be frank did not impress the hosts. As they pointed out, it's a small amount of money from a Vegas perspective.

    2. Your history which is a colorful story. You make a good story for AA.

    3. You as a human being. It seemed to me that this was the most interesting part. Remember when Readers Digest had a section called The Most Interesting Person I Ever Met? That could be you.

After listening to the whole interview, I found Mickeys story sad, yet, want to give him credit for holding his nose against the grinding stone instead of quitting.

The two guys that interviewed him sounded disabled. If I’m not mistaken these three guys are allegedly veteran lifelong professional AP gamblers. If a non-gambler stumbled across this interview, there would be a good chance that person would have the same result (if it were possible) as being neutered against gambling. This interview should be played at GA meetings.

For all you members patting Mickey on the back, was just another example of how fucked up these gambling forums actually are. If that was a good example of being an AP, I’m really just lost for words.

It should have ended with a follow up about why you should finish school, and pursue some type of honest career. Being a hobo train hopping with serial killers before discovering AP’ing casinos, is a strong message that could help immature kids to keep their heads on straight.

I think Mickey should volunteer some of his time to speak at schools.

This whole thing was very, very, sad.

I don't know the size of the audience, but assuming it's small, I think the most likely reason is the subject matter. Casino gambling is a niche topic, and advantage play is a secluded corner. Many gamblers would like to win at the casino, but are repelled by the reality that success requires smart, disciplined behavior.

I didn't get that exact impression, although I'm accustomed to them. I think maybe the reason they don't sound "normal" to you is because they're at the "nerd" end of the spectrum.

Thanks for the candid reviews, guys, both the positive and the negative. The interview was set up for skype but something failed on their end about ten minutes into the interview and we had to start over with me using my windows phone. I thought about using talking points but that really isn't my bag so I just talked off the top of my head.
"More importantly, mickey thought 8-4 was two games over .500. Argued about it. C'mon, man. Nothing can top that for math expertise. If GWAE ever has you on again, you can be sure I'll be calling in with that gem.'Nuff said." REDIETZ

I just wanted to address some of blackhole's talking points in regard to "how sad" the APing is.

It would be nice if everyone could go to college, pay for it, and get to a nice white collar job where they could be a high-profile "productive" member of society.

It would be nice if everyone could become part of the manufacturing sector out of high school, get a nice job, and become a "productive" member of society.

Everyone can't. The average college degree takes 5.2 years. In-state public university tuition costs require an average outlay of 50K or thereabouts. Average private university tuition tallies are north of 150K. That's a tough nut for most people and most families.

The manufacturing sector is out-numbered by the low-paying service sector in this country by more than five to one. The number of Americans working in the service sector is more than 110 million, which is incredible.

The two variables that correlate most with how much money you'll make are your education and your parents' income.

So you get folks like Mickey and Kewlj, who have made it materially in odds-against scenarios. I think they are to be commended. APing has given them a productive vehicle and an adventure. And either could be "The Most Interesting Person I've Ever Met." I don't know how to put a value on that.

Also, "productive" is in the eye of the beholder. Having a lot of cash, being the person TV ads target, and so on -- that definition of success comes from a cultural perspective. It's not a law of nature or some objective measurement of "value" or "worth." For example, here on planet earth, there are a couple of hundred million Muslims who don't share American values. There are a billion atheist communists who don't necessarily share American aspirations. It's all subjective.

Like him or hate him; believe him or not. You got to admit he is an interesting character that I enjoyed listening to and have always enjoyed reading.

Redietz--I was just about to say something similar to what you just said. Also, there are many of us in white collar professional jobs who would have rather been in a lower stress lower responsibility blue collar job. My friends who dropped out of high school all became traders and made millions before they were 30 or got into real estate and made millions before they were 40. They were living the high life while I was still in school and while I was working my ass off for some tyrant lawyer and trying to pay off school loans for 15 years.

Mickeys problems started 45 plus years ago. Different times with different opportunities that were available everywhere you turned your head.

Stop trying to justify his bad decisions. Besides, would anyone expect anything less from the brotherhood of AP gamblers? Of course it's a great success story.

I just want to comment on one thing: various surveys indicate 64% to 80% of Americans gamble in casinos and other venues.

Frankly this show could have a wider audience if they weren't so obnoxious about being advantage players. If they provided more general info they could probably grow their audience. The AP thing goes only so far before "general population gamblers" call it hogwash. Sorry but that's what the general population really feels. You can call them ploppies or stupid but that's most of the media and casino audiences.

  16. #36
"General population gamblers" have no clue what AP even is. They might know of card counting, but that's it.

Rob Singer is clearly a troll. A hater, so filled with bitterness of his own life that he attempts to belittle others and their accomplishments. And he does so with nothing but lies and untruths. He makes things up to suit himself and his own narrative and that of his fantasy alternative world or universe.

Rob says 'Gambling With An Edge' has "so few listener", an attempt to belittle Mickey's outstanding performance on the show. The fact is that a show like GWAE is a niche topic appealing to a limited audience. However a radio show like this in Las Vegas will have a much bigger audience than a 'niche' topic show in another similar sized market. And because the show is podcast, that target audience of gamblers and AP's all over the country and the world listen to the show on a somewhat regular basis at their own convenience. I suspect listeners via podcast are many times more than listen live on air.

In addition, I have no idea what sort of audience goals a talk show on radio has these days as this is obviously a dying media. But GWAE has been on air weekly for like 15 years now. They must be meeting the expectations and audience goals of the station or they wouldn't be on air for 15 years.

Then Rob goes on to say "compartmentalizing alcoholism and gambling, which anyone who listened who's ever studied social sciences well knows, is 100% impossible". Completely false! Most successful people in various field are strong compartmentalizers. And in the specific case of alcoholism, the American Medical Association has defined this compartmentalizing as "high functioning alcoholic" and it is very common. Some people thrive and are highly successful even at this highest level of compartmentalization. So just another completely untrue claim by Rob to suit himself and his own alternative universe.

Just another case of Rob Singer not knowing what the fuck he is talking about, and making up lies and completely false facts to suit himself and in this case to diminish someone else's accomplishments because he is so bitter with his own life. I continue to be baffled as to why this obvious bitter old troll is allowed to post here?

Blackhole, you to are coming across as very bitter and judgmental. You will counter with stories of your financial success in life, a professional career earning a big salary. Good for you....sincerely good for you. But everyone's path, journey and goals are different, some based on opportunity. You want to make life a scorecard...money. Well guess what, I can post hundreds of examples of successful people that are some of the most unhappy people in the world, many who have taken their own lives. And although less known, some of the happiest people are people that you and maybe even I would consider "poor and unsuccessful".

Stop judging everyone else by your standards. Those are not the standards and goals of everyone. Everyone has their own goals and does their own thing. In the case of AP's, few of us get rich. And most aren't in it to get rich. For most of us it's about the freedom to do your own thing, legally beat the casino at their own games which we take pride in and earning a comfortable living.

And we all define comfortable living by our own standards. For me, someone who didn't have the opportunity to go to college, a comfortable living is mid to upper 5 figures. My last job (14 years ago) paid 16 thousand a year, so anything above 50-60k, would be far more than I could make being employed by someone else and I have done significantly better than this over the last 6 years. PLUS, I am doing something I enjoy, playing a game I love. Who could ask for a better life? How many people honesty love what they do to earn a living?

Mickey's story, while you haters look down on, is the story of a very successful person who pulled himself up from the bottom to enjoy a better life. And Mickey detailing the process, how much like myself, not being a formally educated "math guy", he didn't understand the formulas and stuff, so he had to learn it on his own. That is what success looks like!

As I told Mickey in private, that was a great radio show and Mickey did himself proud. And you haters, doubling down on your hate and bitterness is just proof of that.

Fact check: Gambling With An Edge on YouTube has a limited audience. Most shows have fewer than 800 views. But Rob Singer's videos with me on YouTube have thousands of views and several have 8,000 or more views.

I believe they post the GWAE on YouTube as well. Haven't checked views. Honestly, I've never listened to one.
