Thread: Rob Singer banned

  1. #1
I have decided that Rob Singer has become nothing but a troll who is dragging down this forum, and have banned him.

I did not make that decision lightly. I want a semi-free-speech environment here, but Rob was simply dominating the forum with trolling and ruining nearly every thread. He ignored the warnings I posted about people doing this.

In addition, he recently posted an overtly racist term, simply to get a reaction from people. While I am not one who likes playing speech police, I do not want this forum to go in the direction where pointless racial slurs are deemed acceptable.

Finally, Rob is not contributing any valuable casino or strategy discussion. He merely acts as a contrarian to nearly everything posted here, yet rarely provides any data to back up his claims.

I also received several complaints from people -- some of whom hadn't posted in awhile -- that they are refusing to participate here because of Rob's domination of the forum.

Even Alan, a real life friend of Rob's, has called for his banning.

    Therefore, Rob has been banned.

So let it be written, so let it be done.

I would like to be the first to commend you, Dan. And not because I agree with Rob about zero that he has posted since I have been here. I am fine with people having differing opinions. I am fine with people not appreciating advantage play and expressing so, as long things are kept somewhat respectful. But when your responses are always personal attacks, directed at everything from race, religion, sexuality to a member's spouse that passed away, that is far beyond acceptable.

Rob has demonstrated over and over and over that he was interested in contributing nothing positive and his only intent was to be disruptive. Hopefully this will make more members of the lurker/reader variety want to participate more.

    Well done and well said.

    +1

Edit: I forgot to say -- Good riddance!

Disappointing, but i'm sure rob is amused that his use of the n-word "triggered" the ban.

Try to be offended by something that actually matters.

Rob realized was looking foolish and being called out on his bulls..t so he got his self banned. Nothing new here.
Take off that stupid mask you big baby.

Well that is an interesting development now.

He was belligerent but had the rep to pull it off: sort of.

Whatever, I'll sort of miss reading his flames and insults.

Hopefully he'll land somewhere else and continue his discussions.

He might want to join LarryS at thepenaltybox.

Love to watch the two of them tangle.

+1 to this. The comments about the deceased spouse and the sexuality of one of the posters were irrelevant, hurtful and did nothing but distract from the gambling topic discussions.
I can tell that you struggled with this. You certainly gave enough warning. Sorry they weren't heeded but I agree that the time had unfortunately come.
Hopefully without the constant derailments, this forum can get back to the serious strategy and comp discussions that it used to have.

Rob really thinks he has a bunch of adoring fans but the reality is people who lurked the site to read him were doing so in morbid curiosity. Hopefully, they will start posting now that they know they won't be his target. And hopefully membership will grow. It's a pretty good site overall so you lurkers should come out of the woodwork now.

The one thing that has my curiosity is this G2E forum he is supposed to be hosting. He was secretive about who was running the operation and who will be on the panel. If Rob was invited to host it I'm wondering who else was or will be invited. You can bet Jerry Logan and aceshii won't be there. But what video poker experts would want to be on the panel with him as the host? I know all the video poker guru's and they have all avoided any contact with Rob for years.

With Rob hosting what possible serious conversation could this forum have? What is the objective of those who are putting it together? G2E is organized by the American Gaming Association. What are they trying to accomplish? Is it an attempt by them to promote Rob's cockamamie theories about the machines?
"More importantly, mickey thought 8-4 was two games over .500. Argued about it. C'mon, man. Nothing can top that for math expertise. If GWAE ever has you on again, you can be sure I'll be calling in with that gem.'Nuff said." REDIETZ

Rob has been out of control lately and I don't think he has made a positive contribution here in months. I mean months.

If Rob wants to write a constructive and informative article I will post it on my website for all to read. But I won't tolerate any of his BS.

Now... Dan I hope you will take note of others who are only posting negative comments without any positive contribution of any kind.

There's a big difference between an academic conference and a commercial convention. At an academic conference, you're vetted by experts. If you don't seem to know what you're talking about, a jury of your peers doesn't let you present.

At a commercial convention, you're often vetted by your wallet. Until and unless a convention gets pushback, if somebody wants to shell out money to host a panel on whatever topic or set up a table to present whatever theory, you can pretty much do it, at least the first time. It's a commercial event. People pay for convention space and convention time and the veneer of respectability. If you have the funds to buy the space and time, you can pretty much say what you want until you get flagged.

So there was nothing inherently impossible about Rob hosting a forum or doing a podcast or hanging at somebody's convention suite...at least a first time.

Trying to set the record straight with fact is an extremely positive contribution.

I really don`t like seeing anyone get banned, but Dan did what he had to do....Singer was harmless IMO though....just like a mischievous puppy running around pissing on the rug. You just need to whack him a little on the nose with a newspaper until the next time he wants to pee-pee again.....Of course Elaine Mendelson aka Mr Bojangles wants more people banned...He wants to be the star of the show here. He does not like anyone questioning or calling him out on his less than scrupulous tactics....He`s a used car salesman and that`s just what they do

Even though Singer was a complete jackass, his comedic value was very high...oh we'll Bill will pick up the slack

I've no dog in this fight other than as regards the issue of transparency, and in that regard it seems that banning Singer was arguably unfair.

This is obviously a moderated board, i.e. a mod will punish a poster for proscribed conduct.

OK, fine: "You violate the rules, you pay the price:" got it, that's the way it is at WoV.

So I checked this forum out, high and low, looking for the "forum rules" and found none.

A use of the search function found no forum rules.

I did find a link to dealing with troublesome posters, and the only suggestions in that regard from admin are to block the pest, and report it.

Seems unfair to ban someone when no rules have been broken, and those offended could have blocked him.

    Just sayin'.

Please, we don't need any more rules.

I think Dan covered a lot of it with this thread:

    https://vegascasinotalk.com/forum/sh...read-NEW-RULES

He also mentioned his concerns in other threads.

I have always been a Singer fan, and I don't like to see him, or anyone banned. But there is some irony here in that Singer got banned for his exercising his right to free speech, while he also was a devout follower of Trump and his running roughshod over everyone else's free speech.
