Thread: Comp comparison

All things being equal (and they never are): do tribal casinos offer comps more readily / easily than do Las Vegas casinos (STrip, downtown, locals)?

I've accumulated a good amount of freeplay from playing 3 Indian casinos around the Sacramento and San Francisco Bay Area. They are Graton Casino, Cache Creek Casino, and Thunder Valley Casino. In my opinion, the bounce back mailers are better than Nevada casinos. Playing a cumulative hour of $1 one line video poker at each casino brings-in good mailers. I burn-out the free play out and leave with a profit at each casino. One cannot lose and only win when making the rounds without using your money. After the offers cease, rinse and repeat.

Yes, this is an excellent way to play on the casino dime and make money if you get lucky or at worst have minimal out of pocket cost. It's any casinos not just tribal ones. When you have several in a general metropolitan area competing for business that use free play offers as a way to entice business you can work the offers among them so that you've always got at least one with free play to play off, one with minimal offers that you're letting sit, and one that you need to go run some action through to get the offers started again. Or just have months where you go play everywhere every week and months where you don't play anywhere. You can keep this going ad infinitum as long as they're still sending out free play. One area I was traveling in my revolving door of 3 casinos got messed up because one changed their promotions scheme and started doing more giveaway offers and reduced free play accordingly.

I missed the part from JSTAT where he told how much he played before the big mailers came?

My girlfriend was reading over my shoulder and asked why her mailers are for just $5??

Sounds like she'd be an inexpensive date if you took her to Caesars.

Were she receiving mailers in the three or four figure range, I'd be more concerned.

BTW, should a man, if he's reasonably well-heeled and can afford it, give money to a date so she can gamble, assuming she asks for it?

Your mailers tend to be low when the casino marketing computer has determined that you're worth very little to them.

The more they know about you, the more accurate decision they can make. This is why people with long play histories rarely get lucrative comps compared to the amount they play.

The best way to get oversized comp offers compared to your action is to show up to a new property, sign up for a new card, play mid-high limits for a little bit, leave, and wait a few months.

Then only run the free play, and keep doing this until the free play stops.

You can repeat this cycle again about 2 years later at each property.

Regarding tribal casinos, I don't think there's a blanket answer you can give. It varies from casino to casino.

I go to a few casinos in Southern California/LA/San Diego area. I feel like Vegas overall offers more for the play. I also feel like the busier the casino is on average, the more stingier they are, especially with hotels.
Morongo is the toughest casino I've found to get any sort of comp, they are also an 18+ casino. Very busy.
Pechanga is much better, and what a huge casino there's always something you'd want to play.

As far as giving money to your date so that he/she can gamble, before I give my opinion:
I am not a cheap date, I almost always pick up the tab/drive/treat like a gentleman, minus my language.
However I will almost never give money to date so that they can gamble with. I believe when you gamble, the thrill exists because you have something to lose for it, the win only feels good because you can lose.
If you gamble with money given to you, it is simply not gambling, at All. I would rather buy her something. And when you lose the money you were given, it's definitely a lot more thankless than something tangible/meal. etc.

What I do with my girlfriend is we will combine our money, but I will stake two or three times her amount. I.E. if she put in $100, I will put in $200. And if we win, I will take my percentage proportion of the stake, meaning that if it turned into $3000, $2000 of it will be mine. We could still play two different machines at the same time (usually next to each other) and we're still on the same bankroll. Usually we lose, so I'm the one who lost twice as much as she did. But the thrill is still there for her and she/we can play a lot longer.

In just my opinion, It's nothing about whether you're a well-heeled man or not. I believe I am, but I will not Just give money to anyone to gamble with.
