He's got to be a specialist: well-trained, probably ex-military expert marksman with a good weapon.

But he's got to be on site to be effective: these things unfold rapidly.
Actually, a drone could have flown thru one of the windows and killed him. But, a sniper? Where would that police sniper have been positioned? Just asking, because I doubt a sniper on the ground would have had the line of sight necessary. And I don't think there was another nearby building to allow a clear shot either.

By the way, the talk about police using drones as offensive weapons immediately popped up among law enforcement.

I don't know about anyone else here, but after reading many of your postings here after joining over the past year, it became very hard for me to take any article written by you serious today.

Instead of viewing your article coming from a journalist’s opinion, I can’t help but feel it’s being done solely for some type of commercial personal gain. Notice the ads at the beginning and at the end of your article. Especially the one at the end trying to come off like some type of clever successful serious news, but is actually just the typical internet tricky car insurance ad.

I can’t help but consider that saying, “no crisis should go to waste” reading an article that uses the phrase “I Think” at least 9 times while speculating about future security measures in Las Vegas while selling ads. It just appears to me like a back door way not to waste a crisis for personal gain.

This post is just my personal opinion and should not be viewed as confirmed fact. “I Think” it’s no different than Alans “I Thinks” on future security in L.V. Complete speculation by both.

Sorry to trouble you blackhole, but Google does have ad space on my website. I don't know what ads you are seeing -- that's out of my control. But there are ads (three of them) on all 492 pages of my website. Just like newspapers, magazines and the CBS Evening News, and countless other websites there are advertisements.

Okay, I have no idea how that all works. What I posted is just what came to my mind after reading many of your past posts.

You could be correct, I lack the expertise to answer with any sense of certainty; but even if the officer lacks a clear target, him taking a couple shots at a shooter such as Paddock probably would have deterred Paddock substantially.

One concern I'd have is the officer using full metal jacketed bullets which could travel beyond the fiend's lair, pass through walls and hit others in the building; perhaps special, soft bullets / bullets that explode or blow apart on first contact could be employed.
    What, Me Worry?

If I recall, "dum dum" bullets were outlawed after World War 1. Since I am not an NRA member and only shot a .357 Magnum once in my life (doing a story in Miami about armored cars during the cocaine cowboys days) I don't know what the rules are about bullets.

But I do know about the possible use of drones and have talked to police officials about them. No where can they be used now. There are all sorts of concerns about them falling out of the sky and the weaponry getting into the wrong hands.

Paddock in particular did not have his guns sticking out of the windows making a shot from a sniper difficult. Sure you could spray his room to scare him, but it takes time to get a sniper in position to do that.

A MUCH BIGGER QUESTION is this: we now know the hotel guard was shot five minutes before Paddock started shooting at the crowd. What took so long to get the police up to that room?

    EDITED TO ADD:

I just read up on dum dum bullets and apparently some police departments do use them, called expanding bullets.

Get yourself a good ad blocker software, used in conjunction with your firewall it will filter out most of the advertising that you don't want to see. I looked at Alan's site and saw no advertising. He gave several opinions on what security changes he thinks will take place in Las Vegas. Not sure why you have so much heartburn.

Never let it be said that CET will not try to turn a horrific event into a marketing ploy. Here's an offer I received a couple of days ago and just got around to reading. Here's the opening...

"Our thoughts are with those who have been affected by recent events in Las Vegas and we are deeply appreciative of the support from the community, first responders and our team members. We are honored to be a part of the Las Vegas community and look forward to welcoming you back so that we can continue to be there with you through the good times."

    Stay classy CET...

Because, I could see through all you bullshit artists with my crystal ball. Talk about fake news???? There's more bullshit on this site than all the media outlets combined. I come here just to see how fucked up and full of shit unknown people could actually be. It's more entertaining than any form of comic relief available.

I updated my article to take note that Steve Wynn has scrubbed the unwritten rule that casino security guards do not carry guns. He says he has guards who now carry.

In the past the reasoning was "let them take the money and our guests are too valuable to get wounded in a shoot out." (my quotes, not anyone else's for all of you detail people.)

And the real reason was: I dont want to get the shit sued out of me when one of my idiot security guards shoots and inniocent person.

Imagiane what will happen when a security guard shoots a card counter.

I have been ruffed up by security for simply playing A VP progressive.

STEVE WYNN: There is something odd about the Wynn interview over the weekend. People and casino personnel from the various casinos that Paddock played and stayed regularly all painted kind of the same picture of the guy, A loner who drank heavily and always had a drink in his hand. Most pictured that have been published show both him and the girlfriend with drinks. The brother stated that one of the perks Steven paddock enjoyed from the casinos was the vintage, premium alcohol that he was served. They all paint the same picture. But Wynn stated that Paddock and his girlfriend never touched a drop of alcohol in 11 years of visiting his property, monthly for days at a time. It's like he is talking about a completely different guy.

The casinos make it top priority to find out everything they can about their higher rollers, so they can individually "target market" them. They know everything from their financials to their personal tastes and what they like to do in their spare time, What drinks they like, what clothes they wear, what kind of shows, sports or entertainment thy enjoy, what trips thy have taken, what they do in their spare time. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the casinos that know everything about their higher end clients, knew of his many, many gun purchases.

Yes, I know it's not illegal to purchase dozens or even hundreds of weapons, but it should be a red flag. Of course they are under no obligation to share that with anyone. But I just wonder about all these comments from the casinos and casino personnel saying he seemed like a normal guy to me (us), "just a bit of a loner who kept to himself". Fact is when details broke of who it was there were probably many "casino insiders" who were not the least bit surprised.

Paddock in that deposition for the Cosmo lawsuit said he didn't drink while playing. It's very possible that he didn't drink at the Wynn when he was playing there. He might have been drinking outside of casinos or when he wasn't gambling.

So, it's possible Steve Wynn was correct -- when he was there playing there was no booze, including dinner breaks.

So much of this stuff is hearsay to begin with....

But when the police get the timeline wrong, and police didn't immediately get called or respond to the shooting of the security guard five minutes before the carnage started, you have to think a whole lot of stuff is wrong.

Well, there are gamblers, and there are their detractors. As there are believers, and non-believers. I just try not to become absorbed by either-or concepts. We don't have to be one or the other to see what is going on, but to be biased.

You're sounding more like the regulars jbjb et al, every day.
