I am not sure what the big deal is with these tests. Fore example, My father was from germany. And if I were to go to Germany, and sit in a bar and tell the men there that I am German...they would laugh their asses off. Nothing about me is german. I was raised with jewish american values, language, sense of humor, taste in food.
I have nothing in common with Germans, except for a DNA test.

If there was an opening for a good job for a "German"....I would not apply. That would be hypocritical because I know zero about the german lifestyle, values, sensibilities. I would be a fraud...except for the DNA test.

Thats why I laugh at people who claim to have Indian background and getting jobs at Indian casinos. Some of them are as Native American as I am German.

There are probably multigenerational americans that marry a German spouse, that are more German than I am. They probably know more of the customs and history, and sense of humor of Germans. I know nothing of the sort.

so for adults like me, older in age, what do these tests do for us? Its not like I am going to start to wear a kilt if I find I have 10 percent Irish in me. I wont start eating cornbeef and cabbage, I wont take bagpipe lessons, and I wont all of a sudden like U2.

That was a joke because that pinhead said her high cheekbones made her an Indian. Why not just take a dna test Pocahontas.
She SHOULD take a simple autosomal DNA test at Ancestry. They only cost about $90 right now. A lot of white Americans think they have Indian blood when they don't. It's like a family myth that gets started somehow. I have an aunt that way. She swears we have Indian heritage. But my DNA tests say I'm 100% European.
But that would prove what she doesn’t want proven. She would be a fraud and would be embarrassing for all, including the Ivy League school (Harvard I think) she got into on the claim she was Native American.

She got a position at Harvard.
Take off that stupid mask you big baby.

Larry, it's the same with genealogy. It's only for those that want to know who they are and where they came from. My roots go deep in America. Some lines go all the way back to Jamestown, circa 1611. With some lines I even know the name of the boat the ancestor arrived on. There was a Rogers on the Mayflower of which I'm a Rogers descendent. You've heard that response of being a Heinz 57 when someone asks another about their heritage. That is certainly true for me. I've traced my ancestral lines back to Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England, France and Germany. If I were to go to Europe which group do you think would accept me? Hitler was right, I'm a mongrel dog.

Here's a snapshot of my DNA analysis. Europe west represents England, Germany, France. The Iberian Peninsula represents southern France and Spain. The low confidence regions were the Scandinavians countries.

I think genealogy is different. For people who are interested in history, and times and places that they never even heard of, then genealogy takes you on an educational journey. It tells a story and is educational. It says nothing about you personally, but is an interesting learning tool for history buffs.

However to know your percent ancestry makeup is basically a one sentence declaration. "I am 25 percent chinese. 35 percent mexican, and 40 african"......ok failr enough. Whats the point. Who you are TODAY is based on how you were raised, and then how you developed yourself during your formative years...a product of your environment and of your own intellect and personality. Not a product of african ancestry or mexican ancestry or chinese ancestry. Especially if you were not raised with any of the above influences in the household growing up.

GENEALOGY has substance to it as far as historical knowledge.....however knowing that one is 15 percent russian is trivial trivia in my mind.

    True enough.

But, as for Elizabeth Warren, she is claiming to be something that most do not believe is true, and got preferential treatment because of that claim. She could easily take the test and debunk the naysayers, or, probably already has and the results don't fit her narrative.

yes, in her case or in the case of anyone applying for a job that is contingent on ancestry, or puts forth a claim of ancestry, in this day and age it can be verified and should be verified by the employer. In the past we had to take one's word for it. Now its simple.

Dolezal got what she deserved, Why not warren if she is lying.

If Warren had a grandparent that was full blood Indian then she would be only 25% Indian and 75% European. If she had a great-grandparent that was full blood Indian she would be 12.5% Indian and 87.5% European. If she had a 2X great grandparent that was full blood Indian she would be only 6.25% Indian and 93.75% European. Claiming she has Indian blood is one thing. Claiming she is an Indian is quite another.

In her recent speech before the National Congress of American Indians, Elizabeth Warren gave a speech that fit the crowd. She stressed her humble beginnings in Wetumpka, Oklahoma. How since her mother had native blood her father's parents didn't approve of the relationship. So they eloped. She told of her parents struggle to survive and provide for their children. How her mother was a minimum wage employee at Sears and her father was a janitor.

Her father's name was Donald Jones Herring. I found him in the 1940 census at the age of 28. The information given on him was he was a clerk, owned his own home, and had two years of college education. I found his obituary at Find a Grave Memorial. It said he was a Flight Instructor during World War II and was self-employed as a businessman until his death. Doesn't sound much like a janitor to me.

Warren's speech reminds me of a story I heard about Huey P. Long back in the thirties. Northern Louisiana was all protestant while southern Louisiana was all Catholic. Long was a protestant. In his stump speeches through southern Louisiana Long told the crowds about growing up with one set of grandparents being protestant and one set of grandparents being catholic. And on Sunday mornings he would hitch the mule up to the wagon and take his catholic grandparents to catholic services then pick up his protestant grandparents and take them to protestant services.

After hearing the story several times one of his campaign aides asked him if the story about his grandparents was really true. Long's response was "Don't be a fool, kid. We didn't even own a mule."

While in St. Louis last fall I visited the final resting place of my 1st cousin, six generations removed, William Clark of the Lewis & Clark expedition. He is buried under the obelisk.

The graves surrounding him are those of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Imagine what Singer’s DNA would show up. Probably 1 part greaseball, 3 parts retard, 2 parts narcissist with a touch of cock smoker thrown in for good measure. The mind boggles.

More of the same from mickey. A big YAWN. This is stuff he should be sharing and discussing with his family, only....wait....he doesn't HAVE any family! So he decides to put it up for a bunch of anonymous people to lip service it. He draws all of you people into his baloney because he has nothing better to do, and never did. If he wants a historical background, there it is in a nutshell.

I think it is safe to say that Dan has read all these threads and doesn't have a problem with Rob Singer posting in any thread. I guess Dan bet and Rob Raised and Dan Re-Raised and Rob Singer called his bluff and won the pot. If Dan Druff was going to ban Rob Singer again or enforce his own law I think he would of done it by now. I suppose Dan Druff could roll in at any time and enforce the law that he called down but if he was going to do it wouldn't he have done it by now?

Never mind genealogy. I ran into a big problem when I signed up for social security because my birth certificate was made out in error in New York City. My mother's name was listed as her maiden name. I didn't know that so I had to have my birth certificate corrected. Her married name should have appeared.

I warned my three younger siblings in case the same thing happened with them.
