Thread: Rio shuttle ended

It's a small thing, but just another example of CES cutting services. I would think those shuttles from Rio-harrahs and Rio-ballys increased visitors to Rio. Without those shuttles I doubt many people staying on the strip will bother hitting Rio. Just another case of the "bean counter" mentality.

That's a shame. Well, the shuttle from the Gold Coast -- across the street from the Rio -- still drops off in the back of the Linq near the giant wheel. It runs about every half hour or so.

There used to be a shuttle from Orleans to Barbary which then changed to Orleans to Caesars outside the forum shops. Is that still running? I used that every day if I was in a contest at the Orleans.

You are right that people won't go to Rio without the shuttle. I used to walk to Rio and Palm but it is not a real comfortable walk with all the traffic around the highway.

I used to take the shuttle from Ballys to Rio myself. I am disappointed by this change. It was a good way to get to Penn & Teller on a busy night from the Strip. I understand dropping either the Harrah's or Bally's stop but both is not a good move by CET. I wonder if it was precipitated by the fact that the Rio is the one CET casino one can still park for free. If one parked at the Rio, the shuttle could allow you to access the Strip easily.

I hadn't thought of that, but wouldn't be a it surprises if they didn't want locals or anyone with a car parking at Rio for free and taking the shuttle to the strip, rather than paying for parking at the strip properties.

The Barbary pickup (which then became a Bally's pickup) has been dropped. The loop now goes from a pickup spot about 30 yards from the giant wheel behind the Linq to the Gold Coast to the Orleans. The shuttle isn't on CET property and probably no longer needs CET permission to pick up from the street itself.

If anything, I'd think the shuttle encourages people from the Rio to visit the strip. No one on the strip wants to visit the Rio. Maybe I'm wrong on that aspect. I've never taken the shuttle (ew, public transportation [kinda]...). Also not sure if this is a "typical bean counter" maneuver. To me, it seems very plausible this could be a legitimate and smart business decision for them.

Now I know why CET has discontinued the free shuttle from the Rio to other CET hotels on the Strip.

It is to quarantine those exposed to the Rio outbreak of Legionnaire's Disease!

Not only is parking free at the Rio, so are pulmonary infections -- don't say they don't provide anything complimentary.

I love the self-serving proclamation that no one is now at risk because the bacterial levels are sufficiently low. Legionnaires and related bacteria thrive when rooms go unused and stagnant water builds up in the pipes. Management claiming "there is no longer a risk" should have that phrase held to their throats if any more cases occur. Bacteria evolves. It's distinctly possible that lower (e.g."acceptable") bacterial levels could be just as dangerous if the bacteria has become more virulent or resistant to antibiotics.

I think the mortality rate from legionnaires is around 10%.
