Thread: Three Caesars Palace Fails

  1. #1
Over the next few days, I will be telling three stories of fail at Caesars Palace which occurred on my last trip.

Please choose which you want to hear first:

    1) Maid forgets to put plastic bag in ice bucket. Guest services refuses to let me pick up the bag somewhere (or meet me with it), and demand they have to knock on my door, even though it's 3:30am and people are sleeping.

    2) Rusty, beat up iron in room ruins $30 shirt, and I have the smoking-gun (actually smoking-iron) proof. I ask for $30 food credit to compensate for this. Guest services refuses this, and tells me to file a report with security and file a $30 insurance claim with Risk Management.

    3) Caesars does not realize it owns the restaurants in the food court, and is both training employees incorrectly AND printing incorrect literature involving room charges related to this.

#3 is my personal favorite, but I'll let you guys choose which one you want to hear first.

    3, then 2, then 1, IMO.

My reply/post will seem offensive and snide so I want to apologize in advance.

    1. CET is an Evil Empire run by the Devil.
    2. If we believe in the Devil I would think we have to acknowledge his counterpart that I call God.
    3. Plastic Bag for Ice Bucket doesn't do much does it? The way I understand it that the Ice coming out of the Ice Machine has more germs than inside your toilet bowl. This doesn't mean much. I eat out all the time and I am sure things are tainted. I use Ice Machines all over for over 30 years and haven't been sick from it. My father ate food out of the mud and worse in Vietnam so everything is relative I suppose. Nobody has to knock on the door. Leave door ajar and wait for said person. CET is the Devil anyway remember?
    4. Using an iron inside of public hotel rooms is always a risk. Using the coffee maker is worse but I have done that. Think about how dirty those Bed Covers and Blankets and Sheets really are or the pillows we all are sleeping on that some kid JOed on recently.
    5. 30 Dollar Shirt is pretty easy to replace. Many ways to get that out of CET by cheating them with PPV movies or other things.
    6. No kidding... your telling us that a Casino and it's employees have no clue what is going on or what they are doing? I think you might find that to be true with all of them and not only CET.
    7. I haven't played with CET or really been inside of those Casinos for a very long time and really have no desire to. I actually worked for them in years past as a WSOP Dealer. They are pretty clueless IMO. I would walk out at the start of my shift almost every day for years and come back after playing Video Poker all night to clock/sign out.
    8. I find that CET has very loyal customers. No matter what they do to them personally or to the games, these customers always seem to come back instead of going to other properties.

I know Todd is pretty smart, but some people will never learn.

Time to get an RV and stay in that for the WSOP and the hell with Caesars and their garbage "rewards" system.

Monet got #1 spot on. This company is pure EVIL!

Ditto as RS. Oops, monet and jbjb forgot to vote. Or maybe its a protest of the evil empire.
"More importantly, mickey thought 8-4 was two games over .500. Argued about it. C'mon, man. Nothing can top that for math expertise. If GWAE ever has you on again, you can be sure I'll be calling in with that gem.'Nuff said." REDIETZ

I just figure he is going to tell all the stories anyway. I have no specific order in which I want to read. I'd rather hear a story about how you sharpies found a recent leak at CET. Since I don't bother going in those Casinos because frankly my loop or schedule is full with other properties. I would rather hear how I am missing out on some free money that they are giving away like in years past when I used to play with them before they cut the card and games.

Following my transplants I was told never to use ice from any public restaurant and that includes ice from machines. Too much bacteria including fecal material.

If you saw a problem with the iron why didn't you first ask for a new iron?

You could have gotten a bag at the bell desk in the lobby. If you didn't know that they should have suggested it. That's what the bell desk is for.

I had a $500 food credit over NYE weekend and the desk said to ask the food court restaurants if they were Caesars owned. The desk person said most but not all were and there was no list.

Payard Pastries is still on the list of Caesars owned restaurants but it's closed and being replaced by Giada which is under construction.

I have a low blood pressure problem and three times I called for an EMT to come to my room to check me because I wasn't feeling well. They came immediately each and every time.

In the scheme of things your complaints are minor. My classic complaint was NYE some ten years ago when I couldn't get my room cleaned up, not even fresh towels, for three days. Finally a vice president of house keeping calls to apologize and says they're sorry and asks how can they make it up to me? This was before Total Rewards and I was RFB so I say: "you can't comp my room, my meals or my show tickets because they're already comped. The only thing you could do is give me free play." It went to a management meeting and they said no free play.

Then two years ago when the glass door cut my hand sending me to the hospital I had to talk to Selesner himself to get any compensation. Their risk management would not pay for anything including replacing my jacket, pants and shoes that were covered in blood.

I will share my own CET fail over NYE. While it is a "free Diamond show", I have never been able to watch the WOW show at Rio using that voucher -- due to non-availability on weekends and holidays. So weeks before, my wife contacted her host at Flamingo and asked for her to book five tickets on December 30 for the 7:30 PM show for WOW. We made it clear that we would charge it to the room (my wife had a bunch of Reward Credits) and when we checked in on December 29 we even got a print out in an envelope from her host at Flamingo confirming our "tickets" for five. We had expected to get the VIP seats reserved and were willing to pay Reward Credits/comp credits for them. But when we got to the box office, we were told that the "best available" left were on the outside perimeter of the auditorium. We refused to charge the tickets and called the host. She said that she had "no control" of the ticket allocation! This was a complete contradiction of my experience with other hosts at CET who at least could reserve specific seats to CET shows. Frankly we do not believe this host and were so frustrated, we did not buy those WOW ticket after all.

Kind of soured my family as they had been looking forward to the show, but not in the nosebleed section.

They have basically gelded all the hosts. Just really marketers now.

  11. #11
possibly, especially at that time of year...as high on the totem pole you think you are....there are alot of people higher that throw their weight around and get what normally would be yours any other time of year. It sucks, but the whales that are in town for NYE tend to get what they want.

  12. #12
    CET hosts are trash.

  13. #13
The hosts aren't trash. But the hosts are limited to what they can do. If you are a big player you get everything. In all my years at Caesars I've never had a suite upgrade. For NYE weekend I couldn't get my usual Bellagio view room and instead I was in Octavius looking at the pool (nice room but not what I like). There were high rollers at the NYE party who had their small children there. Since when is THAT allowed?

Bottom line: if you gamble big you get big.

I can agree with what you said in this post but let's change one little thing...

If you gamble big and lose big or show big losses you get BIG!!

I do have a question for you Alan. I think I seen one of your pictures where you hit 4 Aces w/kicker on a dollar triple play 6/5 DDB machine? Did I see that right? 6/5 DD Bonus Triple Play... What is the story of playing that version of the game?

Okay ... #3 will be the first story.

    -----

Caesars revamped the offerings in its weird food court in late 2014. They previously had a bunch of really bad internal brands, some of which had weird or offensive names ("Ah So" was the Chinese place, for example).

In December 2014, the new food court opened in the same location, featuring a mixture of franchised national brands (Smashburger, for example) and new (but better) internal brands.

Caesars owned all of these outlets. However, they didn't realize it.

In March 2016, I was at Caesars and had a food and beverage credit on my room. The person at the front desk told me, "You can only use this food credit at Caesars owned outlets, and proceeded to tell me of the places on property where it would NOT work. This included Cafe Americano, the food court, and others. Cafe Americano made sense, but the food court was perplexing to me. I knew that Smashburger units were all franchised. Did Caesars really just rent their space to Smashburger, instead of simpy buying the (relatively cheap) franchise themselves?

I went to Smashburger and found the store manager. He was very insistent that the restaurant was indeed Caesars-owned, and that food and beverage credits WOULD work there. I asked him how sure he was of this. "100%," he said. "I'm the store manager here. I know this for sure."

I chalked it up to a Caesars front desk employee being clueless (which is quite common), and didn't think much further of it.

Fast forward almost two years to January 2, 2018.

The "new" food court has now been open for more than three years.

I went down to the Diamond/Seven Stars VIP check-in room, and asked a front desk employee if my food and beverage credit would work at Smashburger. I remembered that it had in early 2016, but these things change all the time, so I wanted to make sure.

Indeed, she told me that the entire food court was excluded from my food and bev comp.

I told her about my experience in March 2016 -- where the manager told me it WOULD work, and indeed it did.

"I can't explain that," she said, "But we have been told here for a long time to inform guests that the food court is not owned by Caesars, and not to use food comps there. You can try it, but it's important for me to inform you now that it probably won't work, as these are not Caesars-owned."

I still didn't believe her, and told her that the same confusion seemed to exist in 2016.

Then she pulled out something which was fairly convincing.

    Bigger version: http://toddwitteles.com/pics/caesars-fastfood1.png

The above is part of the "Guide to Caesars" pamphlet they give to all guests checking in.

(Ignore the X put over two of the entries -- the front desk employee did that when explaining to me.)

The most important thing to see here is the little "wreath" (kind of looks like a U). That indicates it's a Caesars-owned outlet. Food and bev credits will ONLY work at Caesars-owned outlets.

Notice that Food Court does NOT have that wreath, meaning even the printed guide to Caesars tells guests they don't own those outlets!

    This almost had me convinced.

So I went down to Smashburger, and again asked for the manager.

It was a different manager this time, but again she was the one in charge of the whole store. She told me that, YES, it is Caesars-owned. She was shocked when I told her what the front desk employee told me, and even more shocked when she saw the pamphlet.

She was clearly pissed (at Caesars not me), but was trying to avoid badmouthing them. "It shouldn't say that," she told me. "That's totally incorrect."

She also told me that every single restaurant there was Caesars-owned.

This is bad for the fast food outlets, as it robs them of business they otherwise would have gotten if people knew they could use their F&B credits there.

Sure enough, I charged Smashburger to my room, and it came off my credit.

So Caesars apparently doesn't realize it owns the restaurants in their own food court, and they're even going as far as putting out brochures indicating that it's not theirs.

Leave it to Caesars to not even know what they own.

Sorry, Alan, but even an overcomped schlub like me got an Augustus Tower room with a Bellagio fountains view over New Years.

Please don't tell me you counted on a host to make that booking.

The host was full of crap.

She can buy any seats she wants for you, and charge your RCs directly. Alternately, she can charge the room.

The "best available" nonsense involves comp tickets -- such as ones you get with that Seven Stars monthly voucher. (Often you can talk the box office into upgrading you for free, 15-30 minutes before showtime, when the held-for-high-rollers seats don't get used.)

So the host was just lazy, reserved the bottom-tier tickets for you, and then made an excuse.

You might want to make a complaint to the host's supervisor about this.

#3 is typical, the CET employees don’t know what they are doing and just make up answers as they go...

    Regarding ice machines:

    They've gotten a bad rap.

Yes, they appear to have a lot of bacteria in them, but most of this bacteria is unlikely to get you sick unless you are very old, very young, or have a compromised immune system.

It is much more of an immediate risk to the average human to touch surfaces or drink from glasses used by people who could have been sick -- as everyone is susceptible to viruses. While viruses do die on surfaces fairly quickly (most last only 4 hours), others such as the norovirus can hang around for days.

This is why I want plastic around the ice bucket, where people usually reach their grubby hands into in order to grab ice.

I don't play DDB. And I don't recall ever seeing 6/5 DDB anywhere. Even at Rincon their DDB was 9/5 on the progressives, but then was downgraded to 8/5 but I haven't been there in more than two years.
