Thread: Favorite / least favorite Las Vegas casinos

  1. #1
Most of my time has been spent at MGM Grand, but I'm looking for other options.

Considering MB and possibly The Venetian.

I avoid most CET properties, including Caesars.

Off strip, I like M and Green Valley.

    Downtown: MSS and the Cal.

My least favorite is Railroad Pass, followed by Flamingo, Circus Circus and Monte Carlo.

For stay....I love the Orleans. The standard rooms are large. Everything is close. The food court, for a quickie is not far. Its not a mega huge hotel. And the berst thing overal is the parking and location. Its a mile from the strip, and the parking is at ground level so you just walk to your car (not a long walk at all) and pull out and you are free and esy on the roads.....there is no backup of traffic likke in the blvd. there is no multi-levels to navigate. Just in and out. And from there you can drive in a minute to the Rio. Or you can drive parallel to the blvd without the traffic and turn down the street of the casino you want to go to. Easy access to the highway. They have a good sportsbook. Although I usually stick with William Hill elsewhere. But if I am in my room and need to make a bet they have me covered with easy access. They have a nice large well staffed poker room.

Its not ritzy, but its nice and often good room deals are around.

I love the easy in and out access, and the easy access to the foodcourt where you dont have to walk a mile to get a bite.

Usually we eat elsewhere......nice restaurants in other casinos and outside of casinos.....but for a room and easy egress and entrance...cant beat it

we have been staying there for almost 20 years.

Plus....and this is important...it attracts people my age....there is little chance I get a room next to me filled with 8 college kids with sleeping bags partying all night.

There's good action in their poker room.

Last time I was there I actually had a guy who was tilting call me all in for hundreds with a 3-5 off VS my Aces. He actually won the hand with st8.

About 15 years ago when I traveled for work I stayed at a free standing casino i think close to old vegas. It was something "station" i think/ It had a modern tower, and also a strip like the bates motel , like a motor lodge next to the tower. I was given a room in the motor lodge part when I arrived late at night. In the room I needed to move the night table next to the bed to get access for my laptop phone jack....and it was disgusting what i saw there.....its like it hadnt been cleaned for years. Used condoms filth,/dust. tissues..
I was supposed to be there for 3 days. So i slept and first thing in the morning I checked out, and told the person at the checkout desk about the condition of the room. And she said, ok we can put you in the tower. I said forget it and told the corporate travel dept to find me another place.

    Sounds like Boulder Station.

Stayed in the Golden Nugget for 2 nights in the summer.

    Very unimpressed.

Rooms seemed old and rundown. Not large.

    Poor placement of plugs.

Worst yet, I had the front desk agent search for the quietest possible room for me, and he passive-aggressively put me in one of the noisiest rooms on property -- overlooking a busy street corner and a church bell which rings 24/7 on the hour. I think he was already irritated with me because of a billing issue (not worth explaining), and he felt I was wasting even more of his time asking for a quiet room and not just accepting what he wanted to give me.

It was also a SUPER long walk to get to the room from the elevator. I was warned about the walk, but he promised that this was the "quietest" room they had on property.

The only good thing I can say is that, upon checkout, the front desk manager reviewed the situation, agreed it was "fishy" I was placed in that room after repeatedly asking for a quiet room (they even had it in the notes), and comped the entire stay.

But I'm never going back there.

On strip: Cosmopolitan (nicest standard rooms) and Cromwell (also very nice rooms, quick access to strip, and free espresso!)

Off strip: Red Rock (nicest off-strip rooms, good food specials for happy hour, as well as all-day)

Seems like most of you guys are talking about what casino has nice rooms, although that isn't specified in the title of the thread. Living in Vegas, rooms aren't important to me. I prefer my home. Once in a while we book a weekend at GVR, just for something different, and to be sure they keep room offers coming (which we use for friends and out of town guests).

So my criteria isn't really about the rooms. My top criteria for a casino is who has the best blackjack conditions, but I am not going to post that. Other than that, for just casino environment, I like the off strip properties. I guess Red Rock, Suncoast, GVR would be my favorites. Sam's Town and Sunset station just a hair behind the top 3.

But I also really enjoy a couple of really small, casinos that have an old time feel to them, Jerry's Nugget and Club Fortune. I really enjoy the little diner like coffee shops at both locations.

I really dislike most of the strip properties, but my least favorites would be most of the evil empire properties, Bally's, Flamingo, Harrahs, Paris, PH. Caesar's is still ok....not on my absolute hate list with the other EE properties, just my general dislike strip properties.
