I just came back from a downtown Los Angeles toy wholesaler who was showing me some of the new toys that he will be available in toy stores this coming holiday season.

One of the toy games is a supermarket cash register play set. It comes with a toy cash register that is actually a working calculator. There is a make-believe scanner to scan the half dozen products that come with the set -- milk, toothpaste, etc. There are also make believe credit cards and make believe money.

I've seen play cash register toys before, but this is the first time I saw one with play credit cards. And when you swipe the cards on the toy cash register there is a beeping sound.

And the play money has a new twist, too. There are the usual toy coins but there is also play paper money that is mini-sized bills for 100 Euros each.

Curiously, the only paper is the mini bills for 100 Euros. When I was a kid, the play money was $1 bills and $5 bills. Now, 100-Euro bills? Times and inflation are changing today's toys.
