Thread: The WoV Thread

I guess MC is an anti-establishment kind of guy, and this can throw we "establishment types" for a bit of a loop as he seems to reject many of the things we hold dear.

But that doesn't necessarily mean anyone is "right" or "wrong:" the question is does it work for you, are you satisfied with your lot in life?

The notion of being unattached, footloose and free to wander the USA playing slots to support oneself might seem attractive to those who feel disenchantment with their lives.

Walter Brennan has some good advice about riding the rails, being homeless and The Helots.
I have mentioned this a few times before.
This is a pretty good movie that shows the difference between the two styles of life or living.
To get the full effect you should at least watch the scene from the 20 minute mark till about the 25 minute mark.
Brennan goes on to explain how sleeping under the bridge, spending money as fast as possible and not having a bunch of bills is the life for him.
He explains how the Helots get their claws into you and turn you into a Helot.
The first clip is just the Helot Clip.
The second one is the Full Movie... Meet John Doe.

You're gonna get used to a lot of stuff that is gonna wreck ya! (Amen... happened to me.)
As soon as you get a hold of some dough it can make you go goofy. (This has happened to me as well)

I don't read the Papers or listen to the radio.
    I don't need to.
I know the worlds been shaved by a drunken barber!

I've never had the luxury to be footloose and fancy free. I always had to "worry" about security because I always needed medical care.

People who can be footloose and fancy free are really very rich as they are not encumbered by requirements and have no obligations to meet.

Trying to show the difference between the two styles of life using a movie from 1941 and comparing it to 2019 (78) years later is just another indication of how fucked up AP's see things.

I have run across a wide variety of vagabonds and train riders, and while to some they may look "footloose and fancy free" in reality most have little or nothing to fall back on, thus they wander.

Oh sure, there are some who choose to do it, but most do it by default when their safety net collapses.

    Interesting Logic.
Society is currently operating by books/laws that have been written 2000 to 4000 years ago.
Major Religions are still using books and relics from thousands of years ago.
American Court system is still grounded by a paper written in 1787.

I don't know what you expect from society
It sounds to me like you have the 1984 mindset and that history should be destroyed and rewrote as you and the state see fit.
    Long Live Big Brother.

A few books that are older than 78 years.
People still read and learn from.

    1. The King James Bible
    2. The Koran
    3. Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung, Mao Zedong
    4. Don Quixote, Miguel de Cervantes
    5. Harry Potter series, JK Rowling
    6. A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens
    7. The Lord of the Rings, JRR Tolkien
    8. Le Petit Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
9 . Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll
    10. Dream of the Red Chamber, Cao Xueqin
    11. The Hobbit, JRR Tolkien

I agree but, leave it to the two-bit slot master to pretend it was an adventure that normal people only wish to experience.

How fucking stupid can you be Mick? I thank god I never had to experience your horrors going through life and end up like you did.

Trying to convince everyone that reads this shit how great your life is explains why your busy answering every single post on this site.
Bitchhole, why don't you try something unique and take care of your own business instead of mine. You are to busy sweating my business to take care of yourself. You need to get over your obsession with me and move on with your life.

Notice that I have not criticized this thread.

There was a former member here, by the name of (dare I say it?) Wizard of Nothing. He and I communicated about any number of things before I found out he was scamming folks.

Well, one thing he told me back then was how much respect he had for DarkOz. The "players card" play has now landed WoN in a bit of legal jeopardy in more than one state.

    FWIW ...

He's not able to defend himself here, and this has been hashed out in detail in other threads. Let's leave him out of this one, please.

We do not talk about Wizard of Nothing nor do we allow anyone else to talk about WoN on the Forum.

Unless they have changed the policy it has always been on WoV that while you have to be civil to members in good standing it's open season on nuked members. That's by the Wizard's mouth himself. Babs wants to sweep WON under the rug because that story doesn't make the site look very good.

    This one's rich.

From that dolt Evenbob in that same thread:

"I'm an AP and nobody in my life knows what
I do, exactly, and nobody has any clue how much
money is involved. Not even my wife. Why would
I be that dumb. Why would anybody."

That MF'er never leaves his fucking computer! This is how many envision that guy.

Yeah...NOW he never leaves his computer. He is an older guy, similarly to some here that now just do their hating from their computer.....that is their life. EB does less hating than "our" MF'ers that never leave their computer.

Don't get me wrong. I have no great love for EB. Prior to the ridiculous reason that I was banned at WoV, calling out a fraud (which has since been proven) that an outside member didn't like, so he manipulated Wizard into banning me, I had been suspended one single time in 4 years (over 3200 posts). The suspension was for calling Evenbob a "jackass". (should have received an award).

EvenBob is a troll. We are all familiar with those types here. People who have nothing better to do than try to get under other more legit member's skin. BUT in private discussions with EB, he had a pretty good knowledge of blackjack card counting, especially as it was done back in the day. Enough knowledge that I find him credible as an AP. You know my old standard..."it's doesn't take that much to figure....". Well IMO, EB knows enough to be credible.

Now the thing is....the term "AP". I get the feeling that lately the term has come to take on a different meaning. That of one, like you, myself and others here that make their livelihood from casino play. But that is really not what AP is. Maybe "professional" AP. AP is simply advantage player. One who gains and plays with an advantage. There are many recreational type AP's. Some supplementing income (especially retirement income). Some just having a hobby that can show a profit contrary to most hobbies.

So, I have never heard EvenBob claim to make a living at any time from AP. As a matter of fact, he has talked about driving a cab, maybe owning a bar (might be confusing him) and other occupations. But that doesn't disqualify him or anyone from being an AP on some level and using the AP label. I think you are being too hard on him in this instance because of a dislike of him.
