Everything you say is true, dannyj. I liked Trump or at least the idea of Trump in the primary or caucuses here in Nevada. Enough that I spent 2 hour of my time participating in the stupid caucus style voting. And by the way, I got to do that because I am a registered republican Mickey. Just because I don't like or vote for who YOU like, doesn't make me any less of a republican. You are free to vote for who you like, but you don't get to decide for me.
When I say "the idea" of Trump, I mean sort of liked the idea of an outsider, a businessman. And I was against the idea of coronating another Bush. I sort of liked Marco, but he came a little ungluded when it was pointed out that he simply repeated the same message word for word like a kid who memorized a speech. I think Marco will have another shot. And I like Nicky Haley. I think she will have a say in the new republican party going forward.
So yeah, Nevada caucuses are very early in the process, just after, Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. So I was still voting against the idea of Jeb Bush and willing to give an outsider businessman a chance. But it didn't take long, even way before the general election, still in the primary season, that I regretted that decision. It just became very clear, very quickly that Trump was not presidential material and that everything he does is about Trump, not about America. Trump is a conman, nothing more. Almost everything he does is a con and getting himself elected the biggest con. I mean you almost have to give him credit for that, if the stakes weren't so high.
And yes, I did vote for Hillary Clinton. I wont throw my vote away on a third party candidate and unfortunately, in the General election we have two choices. By that point I was convinced Trump was not qualified to be president, so I voted against him, rather than for anyone else. The country could have survived 4 years of Hillary, with a republican Senate putting checks on her. But many wont and haven't survived 4 years of Trump. And yes, that is a shot of his handling of this pandemic.
I don't blame Trump for the pandemic, but I blame him for response, or lack of, especially early, when in usual Trump fashion, he was in denial.
"15 cases will be down to zero in two weeks". "It will be gone by April". Unbelievably slow with the testing which is the only way to get ahead of this virus. For the first time in a truly World crisis, the USA under Donald Trump wasn't there to lead, but reduced to a bit player making all the wrong choices and paying the price. We look like and have the results of a third world nation. He didn't make America great again, he made American weak and vulnerable. And then in typical Trump fashion, blamed it on everyone and anyone else. He is blaming Obama. You don't get to blame the last administration when you are 3.5 years into your presidency. You had ample time to fix whatever needed to be fixed. It is your responsibility now.
Trump has failed as a president as it became obvious even before he was elected that he would. History will record him as one of the worst. And I will vote against him, even if it means I have to Vote for Joe Biden, who, because of his declining mental state is not even qualified to run for President. And he probably is going to pick someone totally unqualified to be vice president like Stacy Abrahams. And She may very well become president in the next 4 years. And as bad as that would be, we can survive that. But I don't believe we as a country can survive 4 more years of Donald Trump.
