are you good enough to go to a machine cold...one you never played, and be above average or do u need practice

Interesting article. While the author focuses on some the negatives associated with being an advantage player, I didn’t find the article to be extremely biased. It WAS an article about the negatives, so that's what he focused on. I would say the positives are similar to many forms of self employment. Own boss, Own hours, hopefully doing something you enjoy. Pros and cons...people need to weigh them and find out what is right for them.
I would like to address a couple things from a card counter /gringer AP perspective, if that's ok.
Reason 1: Travel. He mentioned travel, but in a very general sense. There’s a lot of travel. There are many occupations that require a good deal of travel. Some people like this. They enjoy hotels and restaurants and and seeing new places everyday. For these people travel might be a plus. For me it wasn’t. So I found a way to minimize travel and still pursue card counting advantage play. For many problems there is a solution, if you look for it.
Reason 2: The grind. I assume most people interested know AP and particularly card counting is a grind and not the glamour higher roller, high end comped suits portrayed in the movies. But for a few people that like to comment on facets of AP, when they have no clue about it, I want to pull a couple quotes. My comments with be in Blue print following each quote to distinguish.
“but when you gamble the rewards aren’t consistent. Some days you might still lose money and these streaks can last for a week or longer.” Actually the author is being modest. The streaks can last for months.
“This sounds pretty good, but the swings can be large like I mentioned above. Some days will be profitable but others will still be losers”. some days will be losers….like to the tune of $8800 or even more
Reason 3: The Swings. I don’t know why he made a separate section since he talked about the swings in reason 2, but there are a few more interesting quotes.
“When you’re working with a small edge the nature of gambling is that sometimes you win and sometimes you lose” like to the tune of $8800. (note: I added an 's' to the authors 'mall edge'. I think I should mention that I changed something, but I hope we can all agree he meant small edge and not mall edge)
“This creates a situation where you may be forced to play through a downswing in your bankroll or several hundred or thousands before things turn your way.” Did he say thousands with an s? Did he say "play through" or did he say stop playing when you reach a certain 'stop limit'?
“The only way to combat this is to completely understand the numbers, be 100% sure your systems works, and have a big enough bankroll to ride out the swings.”
Enough said. This is common knowledge. I am just wondering why I don’t see any mention of voodoo money management techniques like ‘stop limits’. The answer of course is you keep playing. You need a bankroll big enough to ride out the swings, but you keep playing....because you have an advantage.

Yes, even playing one I have never played before.
The first time I played and got into the bonus round on the Texas Tee pinball I cleared all 3 levels. The 2nd time didn't go so well on the 3rd level.
I would be willing to bet on myself VS random people on random pinball machines. I wouldn't want to hang around arcades asking people if they want to bet 1k on a pinball game, because I have to assume that most anyone willing to take you up on that offer would probably be fairly good at pinball.
I would be willing to bet on myself VS random people on chess, poker and pool as well. And no, thats not an open invitation to wager on any of them games vs members. Most people are only going to play you for money if they know they are fairly good at somthing.
This is Barney
Between the LID and myself, we make the greatest amounts of money at casino. I track the LID's playing of the craps over last 20 years and depending on bouncyness of table his edge at the craps ranges from +.01 to +.03. LID also plays the VP but is net negative but it has provided us with the greatest rooms, food, and dates. Using the Mickey's greatest insights into the slut machine devices I have begun to watch, wait, and play when the sluts become favorable over last year and I am net positive although I can not now track the LID's play at the craps. We also have greatest AP play which only work at the river boat casino. However, since 2007 the craps have became very hard for the LID so I sell on the eBay skunkhat and DI goat coats to supplement our AP monies.
Thank you very much
Although raised in the pool hall, I was never a great shot. Slightly above average. But one day I'm in my college dorm basement playing pinball and some tuff looking guy that clearly wasn't a student is playing pool. Why not--it's free in our basement. No one else there since everyone is in class (I rarely attended). So he keeps asking me to play him for money and I keep declining. Finally he says you put up $10 and I'll give you $200 if you make one ball.
I say I'll be back in 10 minutes. I go up to my room and get my stick, talcum, etc. When I come back down and he sees this he has a little different look. I was watching him shoot and I knew he could run the table if he had the chance. If you play competitive pool, the first shot is usually safe--you don't just bust em up for the other guy to run. I have a shot which I can make maybe 3 out of ten where you pick off the end ball on the right and bank it back to the far right corner. If I miss, there is still nothing left for him to run unless he can bust em up while making the one loose ball.
I nailed it. Now I didn't know if I was gonna get the shit kicked out of me, paid, neither, or both. Luckily, it was neither. I knew he wasn't gonna pay me.
Axel, here is the link to the sequel pinball to Elvira and the Party Monsters which is called Scared Stiff ( ). Since you beat the Texas Tea's first two levels both times you tried it, I would assume the physics on this is good (and for Cleopatra as well since they would use the same physics engine) since you were able to take advantage of your real-world pinball skills in the virtual game. I don't know if Sammy, the Thai sushi chef who worked at Main Street Station still works there (inside the brewery), but he told me they used to wager a lot of money at pinball at Bangkok bars over there. You would probably need some muscle if you wagered there though since it might be gang members who are participating in the prop bets.
Also if you are good at Space Invaders, you can try those skill based games. I think if you pay $20 you can go right to the bonus round and skip the slot part. It doesn't have a joy stick and I am not good with the touch pad, so I don't really play it.
I hope that Larry goes to the Santa Cruz boardwalk (assuming he hasn't yet) because they have at least 20 pinball machines there.
If you play with an edge but you're having a long losing streak do you ever stop and think that maybe you don't really have an edge?
Now if your edge is based on Match play coupons or a rebate a long losing streak might just be bad luck, or a rigged game. But if your edge is based on seeing hole cards or card counting might you have to reassess?
If you are a moron who does not know how to exploit a comp system and plays video poker, might you need to reassess?
No it's impossible I have a sidejob breeding cats to fund my gambling
I can confirm it's true Maxpen sleeps with a blowup doll of Donald Trump.
From everything I know about max he's fairly successful and very intelligent. He definitely isn't slumming it. I have never heard him say anything not true or inflated.
He's willing to lend a helping hand and ask for nothing in return. I'm not just talking about small everyday things ones might help you with. Things that are well above and beyond what most people would(Thank You!). He's always always enjoyable to be around with a good sense of humor. Much respect, much respect!
speaking of cat breeding and Trump dolls ...
