Thread: Survey: Do you think its possible to make a sucessful living via AP full time yes/no

  1. #1
Just to see what the argument is....simply tell us if you think its possible to make a living via AP.

dont parse words...like "successful" and make things complicated.....I am talking about living a normal middleclass life and paying the bills of a normal middleclass life. No other income.

yes...if you think AP is a real viable trade

no-if you think AP is nonsense

I am just curious when someone tells a poster that they are full of it when they say they are making money via AP....is it a disbelief of the individual person, or a disbelief of the entire trade.

Sure it's possible. I know some full time gamblers but I know more part time successful gamblers who also have real jobs and careers that give them steady income, health insurance, retirement benefits and security.

So do I. Answer the question.

    YES

This is really simple as I do both. I have been meeting goals to match my wage income for pretty much the past year. I have a nice 6 figure management position that I dedicate approximately 45 hours per week. AP takes up 20-25 hours per week. AP is more money on an hourly basis. I do not mind all the overall time consumption as I don't have much else that I want to do at this time.
I plan on facing the decision to quit working a wage job sometime within the next couple years. If something happened to my employer I would not seek another job. I will most likely move more towards a more minimal contribution position with my employer. We have actually discussed this. I would be more satisfied with 20-25 hours per week of both activities.

My answer "sure it's possible" isn't good enough? Okay then. Given a choice between yes and no then I choose yes. But I think someone who only gambles for an income will find that they will face a problem down the road when they want a vacation, need health care, or wish to retire.

Doesn't that include children? Do any of the APs here have kids?

Why didn't you do a poll Larry?

Obviously, my answer is that I KNOW AP is possible. And because someone like me, with limited abilities and smarts, can and has had some level of success, I know that almost anyone that was willing to dedicate themselves to putting in a little time and effort could succeed.

I wouldn't and don't recommend anyone attempt to make a living doing so, not that it's that hard, given the right circumstances, but it's just not for everybody and there is a saying that "if you can make a living APing, then you could have made more money doing something else". In other words, those of us that choose APing for a living, it's not JUST about the money. You have to have some passion about making a living this way.

But aside from making a living, I think almost anyone (problem gamblers aside) could easily turn their occasional casino visits from a negative EV experience to a positive EV experience, with very little effort.

again forthose that can read......the answer is yes or no....whatever you perceive to be a normal middleclass life....I mentioned do not parse words. Its a simple survey...without having to lay out in 12 paragraphs all the possibilities. Yes if I wanted to lay out children and 401k or being able to let the mother in law move in, ordealing with unforseen medical expenses. I am not going to make it complicated. Whatever you feel a normal middleclass life is....answer yes or no. simple. I am not going to write a survey with the directions being of Magna Carta dimensions

i have no idea how to poll

Ironically it's difficult to call full time gambling a normal middle class life.

Well, you should have started the thread correctly with a poll using only those two options then. The TARD is strong on this forum.

It may be too late to create a poll in this thread. I suggest a new thread with a poll. But be clear about what the exact question is and what the yes/no answers mean so there is no debate.

Larry when you start the new thread click on "advanced" and the poll option will appear when you scroll down the page.

Yep, confirmation of my "TARD is strong on this forum" comment. Do you have a pencil and paper with a yes and no side making a bunch of check marks taped to your refrigerator?

To some degree, but I know a number that do it, myself included.

Many AP's, card counters and others, especially teams, travel extensively. Constantly being on the road complicates a "normal" middle class life. But again, I know some that are successful at it. But I imagine it takes work, like a traveling salesman. One of my best AP friends that I network with, has been a blackjack AP for 20 years, while raising a family. Kids now in college. Owns his own home, Wife works if that matters.

My own case, when I was on the east coast starting out I did the 3 nights a week in casino hotels in Atlantic City for a few years, with periodic trips to Vegas and Conneticut. I decided that wasn't for me. I don't enjoy hotel living. I like sleeping in my own bed. So I tailored a plan and it involved relocating to a place (the only place) where you can have a big enough rotation of casinos to play and still not travel much. AND I have even gotten pretty lazy and play a very minimum of night shifts. I have as close to a normal suburban, 9-5 job as I think a card counter can have and that's not by accident.

From what little I know, I think Axel leads a pretty normal middle class life. I apologize to Axel if stating that is out of line. I don't know enough about the other guys, RS, jbjb, Monet, ect to know about their lives. Mickey obviously is into the traveling side of things and unlike myself seems to really enjoy that.

I have a policy of never revealing identifying info on Internet forums. Suffice to say, I am very generic. There are a number of posters here that I have met in real life. Anything I say here can be corroborated.
