Thread: Hot Sucker

I looked up the K-mart I went to in Pinole,CA a few years ago (2015) where I had a pleasant shopping experience purchasing some clothes (uncrowded, reasonable prices, and cashier was fine). They are now closed according to Yelp. It's weird how stores that have nothing wrong with them go out of business.

I think about all the KMarts everywhere have closed, same with Sears. With the latest list of closures I think there's one KMart left.
The writing's been on the wall for years with them and buying Sears just took Sears down with the ship. Years ago even their stores in Michigan near corporate headquarters were as dreadful if not worse than the ones in outlying areas. Contrast this with the Walmarts in or near Bentonville, which are well stocked with employees everywhere greeting you just like Sam Walton talks about in his book.
There were a few K-marts in LV not long ago, has that changed recently? Its been a while since I have been there. Walmart doesn't sell Levi's, but I'm fairly certain K-mart does.
I am not sure about Vegas. I meant to say I think there's maybe one Kmart left in all of the areas I check for Sears and KMart closures whenever those lists come out, as compared to a couple years ago where there were probably close to a 100 between all the places I've lived and all the areas I end up traveling to and walking malls.
Walmart has Wranglers in mens which are decent for their price point which I think regular price is $15 or $16 and the annual Thanksgiving/Black Friday ad is usually $10. They're all regular fit and there's no equivalent to Levi's slim fit, but they wear well.

Monet, are you really putting in 8-12 hours of play at single line $1 games at Arizona Charlie's or is there something else there that I've missed?

Also, I really like Ron's Steakhouse. The peppercorn steak I got there was better than Hugo's.

Not sure how to put this.
Everyone knows I don't like Private Messaging and have no qualms about posting information publicly.
I prefer it actually as a big F U to the powers that be.
They have higher limit games (not listed) if you look around.
    Usual Methods.
    System can be manipulated.
    Show Large Losses and Switch.
Basically Break Even in cash in the long run and create monster mail.
    You need family/friends to help.
    Drawings can be cornered.
    Rotation Strategy a Must.
As always, play games that are not cut points.
    Local ID is Superior.
Laughlin Trips... bigger games with same card system.
Doesn't hurt to grease wheels and make "certain" friends. (personal preference, not for everyone or needed)

It appears they moved the machines out.
I noticed they have a different bank nearby with only 2 dollar max games.
They cut all the games now though.
Best I seen was $2 7/5 BP currently.
I didn't check upstairs but I am guessing they got rid of the game/bank that I was hammering a few months ago.
This has been the current trend.
    Cut, Cut, Cut.

Hi, first time poster on this forum. I wanted to add thank you to Monet so much for sharing so much knowledge/information here. I'm sure there are many that wish you wouldn't, but I certainly appreciate it. It isn't all directly applicable to me as I'm an out of state (OR) visitor and I don't play anywhere near your stakes, but it's helped point me in the right direction in places that I might want to look at next and given me some hints. Also the information about Boyd casino's and such is very useful with how certain casinos are grouped together. I actually found this thread looking at some of Kewlj's posts on another forum, and I'd like to thank you both for the information and how helpful you've been to other people. I'm sure there are others lurking about who've gained from what they've read as well.

I'm just a low-roller, 25c type player that loves to visit Vegas on a regular basis and play video poker. At the same time, I'm looking to play with a long term advantage and I'd consider myself a small stakes AP. In the past, my play consisted mainly of playing Downtown Deuces at the El Cortez, 9/6 Job at the 4Q, with the occasional FPDW session elsewhere. For the 4Q, ended up generating 2 free nights and $80 free play mail offers to me after a little over a few thousand coin in, maybe a bit more.. and that's been coming pretty consistently for a while now. I haven't received anything other than discounted room offers from the El Cortez in quite a while, but I used to get free nights and free play. I'm not sure if its because of a small Blackjack win I had years ago, or because much of my play in recent time was only on the 100.92% DD machine. But after that was removed last year, I started thinking more about other places to play and what other mailers I might be able to generate.

Recently I put just over $7k coin through in VP at the D, which is the first time I've put much of anything through there. I will report back to the thread to see what the result of that is. I was in town for the 5x points day last week, and combined with the ACG coupon (still usable but on the base points before multiplier), that made it a 100%+ game by my calculation on top of whatever mailers result from that. Anyways that's a pretty small stakes play but very useful to a visitor playing quarters like myself. While I got crushed that day, but it just added to my motivation to keep looking for other plays to add to using of coupons and playing FPDW.

A quick couple questions. If I am going to play FPDW somewhere, would it be best to just play it at one casino and forget about the mailers there? Also, if if I play at the Golden Gate in a future trip, will it affect any of the mailers from the D since these two casinos are under the same ownership? And if you have a recommendation of one casino I should play at first next time as an out of state visitor to try to generate some mail at the 25c level (other than the D or 4Q), what would you suggest? Thanks again!

    Nice Post.
Glad to help in some way or another.
    FPDW is pretty much dead.
If I was going to play FPDW I would go to the Skyline.
I haven't been there in over a year and they always say they are taking out those machines so things may have changed.
They built a Hotel and have said for years they are getting a players card/club.
    That doesn't matter though.
On those machines you can play two at a time and they are halves.
Older Quarter Machines... ten quarters at a time.
Get your buckets ready when they start dropping.
Hand Pays on 4 Deuces though.
You can earn a bunch of drawing tickets which are worth the time.
However, you have to live here to be able to take advantage of that weekly.
If they get to know you a little bit you can ask for a comp to the coffee shop.

Most of what quarter players do in Vegas is play progressive VP when the Royal is up.
That bank at the D is a progressive bank you can play night and day.
If you want to nit it up you can just wait for the 4 of a kind meter to get to a certain number while you watch TV.
Some of that information is in this thread, on the Progressive Road Map thread and you can always look on VPFree2 Website.
Basically what you do is play things like 7/5 BP or worse but the royal is at 4x or more and you get your advantage that way.
This causes higher variance though so you need the hours to be able to get a return on your investment.
If you are short on time you might be better off playing Live Poker with the drunks and looking at their hole cards when they flash them to you.

Thank you for the response. I've looked at VPfree2 quite a bit to look at various machines at different casinos. And i'll have to check out Skyline next time as well. Its funny you mention poker as before I got into VP, I was a 1/2 NL player...and you are right, playing that against the drunks probably would be easier and more efficient time-wise. But, most my trips now are during weekdays where the poker
games aren't as good as weekends, plus I wanted a bit of a change. I'm definitely going to scout the progressive VP machines a bit more, including the 7/5 BP ones as you mentioned. I’ve started reading through the progressive thread and that is great too! The Vue Bar was where I played last time that you referenced, but I didn’t realize there was a progressive in a second game other than the BP. Also I basically ignored anything under 99% on VPfree2 in the past, but I'll keep an open mind and pay closer attention at other games are at in the future. So I've read that with 1000 coins added to the royal on a progressive, that increases the overall machine payback by approximately .5 percent. I played around with the Winpoker app assuming a max bet to try to estimate with Bonus Poker on the other progressives:

For 4oak 5-K progressive, every additional 20 coins add .65% to the return. That amounts to .0325 return added for each coin, so the overall return would go positive at 26 additional coins (extra $6.50 at the 25c level) without considering the other progressive numbers.

For a SF progressive, every additional 100 coins ($25 on a 25c machine), add appx .20% to the return

Do those numbers seem right or am I way off in trying to calculate this?

IIRC, the frequency on generic quads, 5-K, is 610. So 1% of 610 is 6.1. And 6.1 X 5 coins is 30.5 coins to add 1% to the play. So you could say every 3 coins adds a tenth of a percent.

Here is a promotion at Boulder Station.
    This may be invite only.
They may give up on this promotion so better to get it done asap.
The rules state something about multipliers but I am pretty sure you can play on a point day and earn your multiplier.
The base points will count towards the promotion.
    Only the base points.
    However I could be wrong.
    Better to investigate yourself.
Remember, nobody will help you online with promotions and mailers.
Therefore, do not even think about asking questions.

So if I read it right a 280K wager gets $2600 in freeplay. That's a little over 9 tenths of a percent.

    It certainly helps.
They have high enough denom games to get it done.
I just got the post cards in the mail today.
    Not much of a forewarning.
2 dollar BnsPkr Dlx is most likely the best spot.
You will need about 30 hours of play to get to the maximum goal.
You could play the 5 dollar but lock ups won't help you.
Other spots but you have to give up some win.
Either way it is a great spot to jump start your card if you are going to hammer it out.
It feels like an invite only though even though it doesn't state that.

Question Monet: With Blackjack, sometimes a casino offers a promotion, by invite only that turns out to be a "sting" or trap. They "invite" players suspected of advantage play, and the whole "promotion" is for the purpose of identifying and compiling a list of undesirable players. It is usually targeted at higher end advantage players. Does this sort of thing occur with machine players as well?

    Difficult question to answer.
Too much information and examples to list.
I have never been invited to something that turned out to be some sort of Sting Operation.
The Casino always has the right to alter, change or cancel the promotion at any time.
Always best to jump on something like this ASAP and finish it before they cancel it.
Do you want to be the guy who shows up to a drawing 5 minutes before the drawing?
Has an issue and calls Gaming over 16 dollars?
However, refuses to take advantage of another Casino for 300 dollars?
A Casino everyone knows is only going to get worse and worse for the player.
If the Casino changes owners a player will usually be reset anyways.

Most of these things are calculated risks.
I am usually playing something that is break even from the Jump.
So if something happens I don't worry about it.
I don't cause waves because I know going in you always have a chance to get burned.
Always remember at any moment anything can come crashing down on you.
You should have exit strategies and many other options if something should go awry.

As I have stated before, it is just a matter of time before most of us are back in the Poker Room.

Not that it isn't possible but we all have to understand our place on the food chain.

According to VPfree2, all of the 10 coin FPDW machines recently got downgraded at Skyline Casino. Looks like that rumor you've heard about for a while finally came true.

That website is definitely an excellent starting point with great info. But, I'm learning its good to scout around anyways. I was just in Reno for a brief stay and came across two banks of 9/5 Jacks or Better progressive machines at a casino, that weren't listed on VPfree2, both at the 25c level and the $1 level. The royal at the .25c level was a little bit over $1,700 and when I analyzed the game with WinPoker, it showed the return as 100.05% (but variance at 60). I'm sure I'll find other examples as I continue to look around.

Back more on the initial topic, I did just receive offers online for 2 free nights per stay on primarily weekdays but some weekends too, for most of the Las Vegas Boyd properties throughout a good chunk of 2019, along with some kind of play $10 & get $10 on slot machines each stay. The only thing I did at a Boyd property recently was lose a bunch on my last trip playing FPDW. Not sure if its related to posting a loss or a fluke marketing offer, but thought I'd report it back to the thread anyhow since it is devoted to mailers and that sort of thing.

Well this is weird... looks like Palms has reverted to doing separate mailers from the rest of Stations. Bad for me because I had written Palms off not thinking it was necessary to play there since I play a ton at other STN properties.

I have been wondering for a while just exactly what Station's plans for Palms is. Palms doesn't seem to fit into either of the station two models of local type casinos' or a resort type property away from the strip (Red Rock & Green Valley). First though was they wanted some sort of Red Rock/GVR type property closer to the strip.

They have sunk a lot of money into the property and still are in renovations. In the end, I don't think it is going to be the property they think it will be and that investment will not payoff. But we will see. I expect that at some point, still probably ways away, they will end up selling the property.

So based on my feelings, I was surprised when they incorporated Palm's mailers into the station mailer. Especially since they have different mailers for different groups of station properties (stations, fiestas, Wildfire/Barleys). If they have now separated Palms back out, that only adds to the confusion. I wonder if they have already begun the process of having decided, their plans for the property aren't going to come to realization and are now already preparing for an eventual sale.
