Thread: Dice setting challenge

  1. #1
A challenge is being discussed at WoV.

A fellow in Ontario claims he can roll more nines at craps than the math would dictate, and members are trying to set up a challenge to test his claim, and of course bets for and against would be involved.

The thread: "Dice setter meetup at ELEMENTS casino, Brantford"

There is discussion about live-streamng it if it actually occurs: could be interesting.

As a long time critic of DI I am glad to see one of its proponents step up and try to back up his brag in this manner.

Were laymedown (claimant) a long time lurker he'd probably remember alan's claim about a "cursed" table at Caesars, and he could try and have the event held at Caesars in Las Vegas, assuming he could (with alan's help) identify the craps table that reportedly is "cursed" (alan claimed a particular craps table had a statistically improbable higher than anticipated number of nines show).
    What, Me Worry?

Gosh about two years ago Caesars replaced all of its craps tables with new tables that are slightly larger and are ergonomically designed to help the dealers with a higher platform (less bending).

The curse did not carry through to any of the new tables.

By the way, that was only a one day curse. Last night at Red Rock I saw an 8 curse, and a month or so ago at Ballys it was a 6 curse.

You would have loved that 6 curse table at Ballys because three shooters in succession threw at least six 6s each and we cleaned up on the Repeater Bet which paid 90 for 1.

    Embrace the curses, Mr. V.

Will he prove DI exists through this exhibition, if he rolls more nines than expected?

    There's the rub, Belly.

Without a sufficient number of trials the results will be of little value.

I look at it as grown men finding amusement but not truth.

But it has to be amusing or otherwise satisfying to be the truth.

From what I read, he's not looking to prove DI exists.

He's just convinced that he can roll more nines than expected.

    Why don't you bet him?

I'll even take your action, I think he can do it...you wanna bet me?

That way he won't have to fret over taking another member's money.

While I appreciate the offer, I limit my betting to the casinos.

There's probably guys at WoV who'd take your action.

Might watch part of it if it is in fact live-streamed.

What do you think would be a sufficient sample size, and how much deviation from the norm would be meaningful?

Even though I am a believer, I would want to see several sets of maybe a 1000 throws each and since you should get around 111 9's, what number of 9's would be meaningful?

  10. #10
Frankly I've never heard of a DI proponent claim he can hit a specific box number. Usually DI proponents are happy rolling more 7s or fewer 7s according to how they're playing.

  11. #11
Totally agree. The goal should be less 7's. However, I had a propensity to roll 8's and 10's, so if I were to have made this bet years ago, I would have used 10.
