Thread: El Burro Borracho (Guy Fieri's restaurant at the Rio) misleads regarding portions at "takeout window"

  1. #1
A warning to anyone who might be considering using the new "takeout window" (which is basically a cutout facing the hallway leading to the convention/Penn and Teller/WSOP hallway) at El Burro Borracho (Guy Fieri's restaurant) at the Rio:

The prices may seem cheap compared to the sit-down area of the restaurant, but that's because you get substantially less food.

Earlier in the WSOP, I ordered 3 tacos from there, and they skimped on the meat big time. Like, they barely had any meat in them. I ordered them a second time, exact same thing. The staff there was very cagey about it when I attempted to ask if you get the same portion as in the restaurant, and the menu does NOT indicate there's any portion difference.

I ate in the restaurant with a friend, a few days later. HUGE difference in portion. I'd say I got about 2.5-3x the meat in the tacos, compared to the takeout window, plus it came with rice and beans. (I didn't measure, but that's my ballpark estimate. It's a staggering difference.)

So you either pay $20 for 3 full, generous-portioned tacos WITH rice and beans in the restaurant, or you pay $9 for three super skimpy tacos with almost no meat.

Amazingly, the $20 taco plate in the restaurant is the better deal.

They also refuse to give the local's discount at the window, claiming you're "already getting it so cheap" (lol).

They also upcharge you at the window for things such as extra salsa, which they do NOT do in the restaurant.

This whole thing is kinda scammy, because the menu at the window makes NO indication that you will get a substantially smaller portion.

I would suggest avoiding the takeout window. You'll be very disappointed.

Dan, I'm guessing that the takeout menu is different from the in-restaurant dining menu?

If it was a different menu were you expecting the same items and portion sizes?

  3. #3
The takeout menu is reduced, but most (or all) of the items are identical to the restaurant menu, except they're missing the sides of rice beans, and the food is a lot cheaper.

For example, the Carne Asada Tacos cost $20 inside the restaurant, and $9 at the window. They both have the identical description on the menu, and in both cases you get 3 tacos.

However, in the restaurant, you get 3 large tacos, along with rice and beans.

At the takeout window, you get 3 tacos with barely any meat, and no rice and beans.

They are clear that the tacos come a la carte, but they are NOT clear that the portions are far smaller. I think that's an incredibly dirty trick.

Oh, and you'll laugh at this one.

My buddy was the first person to ever ask for a locals discount at that window. They hemmed and hawed about it, saying that it wasn't available, but finally the manager on duty authorized it, partially because my buddy is a Seven Stars.

Anyway, someone from upper management audited their sales for the day, and found that he was given this locals discount.

Upper management hauled all of the shift managers and assistant managers into a meeting, and yelled at them for allowing this to happen. They were told in no uncertain terms that they were never to offer a locals discount again at the window (though it IS allowed in the restaurant!)

The reason they were given? "Because the window is already so discounted."

Yet it's not actually discounted. They just give you far less food.

If the descriptions on the takeout menu are identical to the descriptions on the in-restaurant menu you have a legitimate beef (pun intended).

One would not be surprised to see lower takeout prices. The issue really comes down to the description.

I haven't been to the Rio in years so I don't know what the other dining options are, but I avoid Guy Fieri's restaurants no matter what. While a popular "entertainer" on the Food network, reviews for his restaurants are always bad. And of course you are over charged because of his name. This is so Caesars with their love for the celebrity chefs, except other than Ramsay, the celebrity is more for their name than their food. But this celebrity chef idolization with Fieri and Giadda and Ramsay, etc. is just too touristy for me.

That being said, I have enjoyed meals at Ramsay but only if Caesars pays. I won't pay those prices.

My practice, for months, was hitting a quad st VP and taking my wife to Don Juan's. Two enchilada dinners for $20. Couldn't hold it all.

    This is Barney,

Good God, what a most greatest tragedy to hit the Las Vegas. Food crime is right up there with the Hate crime and it is growing at alarming rate. I see such criminal behaviors on the utube every day. I'll have my bestest friend the LID get with his contact with FBI to investigate such outrageous food crime.

    Thank you very much

LOL... No Doubt... these cheap bastards complaining about over priced tacos. Give me a fucking break. Stupid gambling forums don't want to talk about gambling and how to do it to actually make money but they want to talk about crooked poker players and how to beat an unbeatable game. They also like to cry about spending too much money for a taco. They have a name for this but I will just call them cheap losers. This is common with the poker community as a whole. Always crying about tipping and how much they have to spend on rooms or food.

Maxpen told me these idiots on these forums have no clue about AP and how to go about it but did I listen... nope. Sorry about that Maxpen... you were right and I was wrong. On another note I see your pal AxelWolf still posting Gay Posts on WoV... this time actually looking up Homosexual Choirs and posting it... I swear he should just come out of the closet and tell everyone that he is Bi-Sexual.

Wow who'd have guessed a limp dick like monet would respond to a normal post with rambling boorishness, esp. after he was essentially shut down as a fraudulent self-portrait specialist when he first showed up from that gay group--WoV.

No surprise Dan recognized yet another flaw in another Guy "look at me! look at me!" Fieri restaurant. His Mexican place in Laughing at Harrahs has been consistently criticized since it opened.

    This isn't about "overpriced tacos".

It's about a misrepresentation of food at a takeout window as being the same as in the restaurant (and appearing to be much cheaper), but in reality it's not the same at all.

So I figured I'd warn people.

If you are just going to troll everyone here without bringing any useful content to this forum, I'm going to ban you. Your choice.

I went to the Laughlin one before any of the others.

I was trying to drive back from Vegas but there was a horrendous jam on I-15, to where I had to take US-95 all the way to I-40 to get around it (unless I wanted to sit in a 2-hour delay on the 15).

Since that took me so close to Laughlin, and since I had $80 freeplay and $40 food credit there anyway, I decided to stop by. That's where I found El Burro Borracho. Wasn't terrible, wasn't great.

Food actually isn't bad there, but the nickel-and-diming price scheme (they charge you for chips and salsa, for example) is maddening.

And LOL @ their greedy "upper management" chewing out lower management for allowing a person to get a locals discount at the already-overpriced window.

This is exactly why gamblers are considered to br sheep by casinos and they cut their benefits without thought.....because they know gamblers will just take it for the most part.

Here is an example of false advertising, shady practice....and Dan goes back and gets the same poor serving, and then goes back to the sit down and pays more money.

yes he got what he paid for...but he didnt get what he expected.....because the place is running false advertising with no difference between menu descriptions.

and then gamblers complain that they arent treated with the proper respect.

start taking oyur business elsewhere and take names of the peiople who fuck you and make sure its known before you leave...why you are leaving. Only then will shit like this stop. Otherwise they know gamblers are just sheep who will take it up the ass at will.

I didn't take it up the ass. I complained to the manager, who gave me some money off the next meal.

And I'm avoiding that window in the future.

I only have limited dining choices during the WSOP.

But the business is going to continue to screw unsuspecting future patrons that would be in your same shoes.

    cool.

thats the mentality of a gambler that the casinos count on.

A gambler will watch a neighbor get screwed over by the casino...and as long as they personally arent touched (yet or again).....all is right with the world. The gambler returns and gives his business.

its the only business I know of where that happens.

It's a very big pain in the ass to leave the building to eat when you are playing tournaments at the Rio.
"More importantly, mickey thought 8-4 was two games over .500. Argued about it. C'mon, man. Nothing can top that for math expertise. If GWAE ever has you on again, you can be sure I'll be calling in with that gem.'Nuff said." REDIETZ

    Absolutely correct.

And I'm sure Dan wouldn't want to order in a pizza every day.

By the way I checked the Rio website and I found the menu for the main restaurant. I didn't expect to find the window menu and it wasn't there either.

LOL... No Doubt... these cheap bastards complaining about over priced tacos. Give me a fucking break. Stupid gambling forums don't want to talk about gambling and how to do it to actually make money as per james bond monet

this quote comes from a man who spent hundreds of words regaling us with details of his colon and his stool, and his blood.

I will take a good taco conversation anyday over reading about someones ass, colon and feces. But thats just me.

This comes from the man who regales us with stories of throwing 20 dollar bills at homeless laying in the street.....or his trip to see a hockey game, or how he handled a man who ran into his car in front of his home. or stories of his childhood,.....and did i mention his ass....maybe I did.

yet he scolds us that we dont talk enough about winning at gambling....BWAAAAHAHHAHHAHHAHHAAAA

He's desperate, LarryS.: can't you tell the man is floundering?

He comes here hoping someone will acknowledge the mere fact that he exists.

Sad, weak, dying moron: he really should consider killing himself before his disease flares and he dies in excruciating pain.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.
