Thread: Imminent Vegas monorail closure rumor incorrectly starts due to bad reading comprehension on Twitter

Have you heard that the Vegas monorail is closing?

If you've been following Vegas-related Twitter, or other social media, you probably have.

And it kind of is closing. At the moment there is a soft closure date set for 2030. Why? Because the company which built the monorail has gone out of business, and there are no parts available for it. It is assumed it can scrape by another 6 years given the existing parts they have for it, but they're planning to shut it down after that, rather than let the parts run out and have it die.

This situation should be simple enough to understand, but the idiocy of our current social media world turned this straightfoward situation into a circus.

Vital Vegas (Scott Roeben), who tends to be pretty good at what he does, as long it doesn't involve politics or tipping advice, wrote a very good article describing how all of this occurred: https://www.casino.org/vitalvegas/la...ling-brouhaha/

    In short, here's what happened:

    - Corey Levitan, a columnist who works for both the LVRJ and casino.org, wrote a good article describing the monorail's upcoming fate.

    - Las Vegas Locally, a Twitter account which is similar to Vital Vegas, and typically does a good job, dropped the ball and attempted to (falsely) correct Levitan, without directly naming him:

    https://twitter.com/#!/x/status/1777093971069767843

    - Vital Vegas snarkily corrected Las Vegas Locally, again not mentioning them by name:

    https://twitter.com/#!/x/status/1777100166409126319

    - The monorail's Twitter account then tried to deny that they're going to shut down within the next 4-6 years, which is just a flat-out lie. They probably just simplified the matter, because apparently it's too difficult for people to separate "shutting down in 2028-30" from "shutting down soon":

    https://twitter.com/#!/x/status/1777131977096966376

    - Las Vegas station KTNV published an article about the situation, also with the monorail people denying it's closing: https://www.ktnv.com/news/las-vegas-...ulating-online

    What a fucking mess.

I still believe Levitan's account -- that the monorail will die sometime between 2028-2030 due to lack of parts, and probably be shut down entirely in 2030 even if still functional.

Fits perfectly into Joe Biden's completely messed-up world.

I am not sure I have heard of a mass transportation infrastructure shutting down because the train manufacturer went out of business. This is the problem with democracy. You get some idiots voting in other idiots. Now idiot in charge hires his buddies who are just more idiots.

Honestly those tracks are huge infrastructure. The fact that they can not be repurposed is another reason why we're doomed as a species. It was a stupid ass design to begin with at the rear of all the casinos. Oh make them walk through the slot floor! We'll get em then !

Now LV tries to be an interesting place by making a big TV globe and a couple of sports teams. lol. fuck off shithole town.

Anyway - this is just more reason to realize how doomed we are.
It is official. Redietz will never be on Dan Druff's podcast. "too much integrity"

    Now what?

When it's gone, will Elon do what should have been done in the first place and build an underground transportation system under the strip?
    What, Me Worry?

He didn't build such a thing.. he bores holes in the ground for his cars.

There never was any sort of system. Just Elon grifting along.

    I know that.

The guy is clever and rich and I could see him building a viable transportation system under the strip.

And no, it wouldn't be car-based.

Like him or not, he's a South African original.

I would not expect him to do much of anything. The advantages he had at Tesla will never happen a 2nd time. He has a company that drills great holes in the ground and that is good. He'd sell people another trnasportation system much like the one we're discussing.

It's actually pretty amazing that the city/county did not have a contingency plan for the monorail company going out of business.

So bizarre that the monorail's end will simply be, "Can't get parts to fix this thing anymore, time to shut it down, lolz"

Transportation around the strip is really a disaster, especially on weekends.
