Thread: A Medical Puzzel/riddle....that may help you

  1. #1
I will pose this as a riddle to be answered, something that happened to me/is happening to me....and maybe others can benefit in the future and avoid it happening to you.

I recently lost 40 + pounds in 8 months. Thats not the reason for this///as if to brag. And I did it by simply doing 3 things

1- eating whatever i wanted regardless of fat or sugar content...as long as daily calories went under 1800

2- to avoid snacking I drank v-8 juice and ice tea

    3- I walked 2 miles a day 5 days a week(40 minutes)

Just this week I developed a unwanted medical problem........very unwanted. Its treatable......but believe me ..no one wants it.

    what is that problem?

    any guesses?

    I didnt see it coming

    Gout?
    What, Me Worry?

    YES.....A KIDNEY STONE

it seems that tomato juice AND tea are filled with oxilates.....2 very different drinks. One is heavy/weighty and one is light and clear. Very different but yet when ingested in large quantties or as the only real liquids in a diet....stones can form.

so let that be as lessen,

Gout will form from build up of uric acid......so in an unrestricted diet that i mentioned..it was indeed possible if i ate alot of beef for example. But that was not the case...although it does run in my family...so that was a logical guess as well

i guess the lesson is that too much of anything can be bad. Even a drink filled with all kinds of veggies....and simple unsweetened tea.

I hope you were able to pass it. Very painful. After my third one I was put on 1 sodium bicarbonate tablet per day and never got another one.

Just read a lot. I really am interested in nutrition.

although i knew what t was, it did show up on xray....and I immediately attached it before i got the results back.

lots of lemonade, orange juice, and apple cider vinegar mixed in apple juice.....massive amounts of these liquids.....within 3 days the pain went away.....but that doesnt mean the stone totally dissolved into nothing.
So if it moves and gets lodged into a more narrow area, or it passes along to the ureter ...there will be more pain. I can only do so much before it rears its head again.

I read stories about the pain lasting many weeks and the pain being unbearable. I had some intense pain sat-tues......but intense and massive measures sometimes work. No guarantee..I am not saying this would work for everyone.

The fact that this worked says to me its the oxalic acid type stone....There are stones like uric acid that also form that would not respond as well.....although plain water also helps all stones. But citric acid in the liquids I used do well agasint oxalic acid stones

Mine were thought to be uric acid because I had gout at the same time, but the stones were not tested. My first symptom was pissing blood. Then came the pain. But I was able to piss them out.

i figured because sodium bicarb is not acidic and thats great for uric acid but not good for the more common oxalic acid type. But dont you take allopurinol to control the gout?

I've never had a kidney stone. I hear they're unbearable, so painful, etc. etc. I kinda wanna try getting one to see how painful it really is. Are there any side effects to a kidney stone, or is it basically just a big fucken rock stuck in your bladder? Like....can it turn into something worse (and getting one on purpose would be not advisable) where I get an infection or something?

Former girlfriend age 64 had one. She was warned that if it didn't pass or was not removed it could damage the kidney. After a change of diet and medication she had some sort of outpatient procedure where the stone was pulverized using some procedure which I think was sound waves or a laser -- I'm not sure. But a strict diet followed.

The stone residue can be studied to determine the cause.

    Yes, very painful and dangerous.

My liver did not like allopurinal and I switched to probenecid and have not had an attack since. However, probenecid has been discontinued and when my scrip runs out we decided to go cold turkey as it should take years for the uric acid to build up again to where it would cause gout. I will monitor uric acid levels along the way.

Exactly. If it doesn't pass or dissolve they use the waves to try to pulverize it. There are some dangers in that process.

RS--trust me. You don't want one.

IF RS wants to induce a kidney stone, and also doesnt have the ability to look up the extended effects of kidney stones on the internet.....he has a lot more to worry about....like most likely a brain tumor that makes him retarded.
