The website for the Las Vegas Review Journal will soon charge for access. What a shame.

The company is owned by Adelson who controls the Venetian casino complex.

Ironically parking, including valet parking, is free at the casinos but he's charging for the Internet.

Ah, but I think there might be a loophole.

There's a paper I like to read that has a digital news site as well as a print site, same as LVRJ; as with the Nevada paper they allow several "free" views a month but will charge for any over that: you must subscribe.

Their news site always lists a summary of about eight or so of the day's main articles.

So what I do is, when I see an article that interests me I look at the summary of the article, leave the site, and type word for word the summary in a google search bar, ending it with the name of the newspaper.

This always leads to the article which is available for free for unlimited viewing on the internet.

Like I said,it's a loophole that works for me with a particular source: YMMV.

Question: are people still concerned about Adelson buying the paper?

His purchase seemed polarizing and led to a big staff shakeup.

as of today they give you only 5 free articles. then you hit their paywall.

but if you clear your history, cookies, browsing data, etc., which is easy to do, you can go back and get another 5 right away

they don't track your IP address

I've been doing this with the NYT and Wash Post for 12 years.

if you're worried about losing some of your browsing data you can always just bookmark the site.

Private Viewing in some browsers works on most sites.
On a Mac - sometimes private viewing in Firefox works, but not on Safari.
