Thread: What's Tommy Hyland up to?

  1. #1
Just read on "another site" that my old friend Tommy (and former WoV member) has been busy.

This incident is obviously about much more than Tommy wanting to play some blackjack. Tommy doesn't even actually play that much himself anymore. I wonder who released this story to the media?

My guess is Tommy is looking for a public challenge (court case), challenging the new jurisdiction of Massachusetts right to bar players, ala Ken Uston vs New Jersey.

I was waiting for you to comment on that. Was the type of post you could have added to the discussion over there. I guess we have to wait for Norm’s comments😀😀😀.

If he is looking for a fight it’s probably a waste of money with the reply given from the state rep. Obviously the casinos are running the ship up there, not the other way around.

If he's looking for a case it will go to the state Supreme Court for decision. The Uston decision backfired on blackjack players because the casinos just downgraded the games to where they couldn't be beat.
"More importantly, mickey thought 8-4 was two games over .500. Argued about it. C'mon, man. Nothing can top that for math expertise. If GWAE ever has you on again, you can be sure I'll be calling in with that gem.'Nuff said." REDIETZ

These states writes whatever they want into the casino regulations. But that doesn't make it legal. It takes a court challenge to determine whether a state (and or casino) really has the right to ban players who are not cheating, essentially ban players for "thinking". And it would take a challenge that would likely have to go up the chain several levels to whatever state's supreme court.

Personally, I have been waiting for such a challenge in Pennsylvania. Of course the problem is that as Kenny Uston proved, winning such a case is no win. If not allowed to bar players to protect themselves, a jurisdiction will simply take other measures to protect their casinos and games. Making the games less playable as Atlantic City did. And not just for counters, but for ALL players. That is what "we" won, when Ken Uston registered his New Jersey win.

Having played years at both models, Atlantic City with crappy conditions to protect their games and Las Vegas, where players are forced to play the "cat and mouse" game, it is no contest. I choose to play the cat and mouse game.

I don't know what Tommy is up to, but this is certainly more than him trying to play a little blackjack in Massachusetts.

Oh I agree the state doesn’t make legal decisions, but as you state it’s a losing battle. You lived both AC and NV, and you already answered the question.

Novices think PA is the land of opportunity, but you and most others understand otherwise. Then again, there is one guy from PA who thought NV was the land of opportunity until he realized it was filled with crooked cards and mob run casinos. Yea, f ZK.

But back to the original question, why is Tommy’s story a story?

Why is it a story and who released the information?

By the way a couple of your statements are slightly off. I did not live in AC. Ewww. I lived in Philly, but played AC for 5 and a half years, commuting 3-4 times a week by train with several overnight stays each week (this was pre Pa table games). I definitely spent more time in AC (and on the train) than Philly those years, but AC was never home.

Also, our friend ZK is not from Pa. He is from the neighboring state of NJ, but most of his east coast play took place in Pa. He and I sort of did the commute in opposite directions.

I stand corrected on both counts. Which most decent people are willing to admit.

By the way, was at the Eagles game here in Tampa yesterday. Not a birds fan but my wife is so I sat through the heat for her. No clue what the game plan was, but as an independent observer I had no clue why they wouldn’t let Foles throw downfield. I get the receiving corps are weak but they didn’t give him a chance. Angry wife is not fun but stadium was over 50% Eagles fans. Wentz back this week, f ZK.

Tommy to keep it on topic, who knows. If you are willing to say publicly, do you communicate with him?

I do not currently communicate with him. Used to 7-8 years ago and I valued that. I wouldn't be opposed to communicating with him again, although to be honest, I had a little problem with some of his comments about me at WoV, as well as just the fact that he mentioned me at all on a site that I could not respond to. But that is just me and as I you know....I am not the kind of person that holds a grudge. I still hold TH in very high regard.
