This comes as a surprise from you. Weren't you once an advocate of vulturing?

Some places, I have to be careful NOT to hit jackpots due to previous 86'ings...

Just meant that competition there makes it tough.

However, there are the two exceptions. First, if the LID gest ahead during the casino roadtrip, I sometimes buy my own multipliers which I then vulture. I know this is losing strategy unless I win. Second, on very rare occasions the video pokers machine makes errors and provide multipliers for a hand that is not a winner or even some other vulturing personage put only 5 coins in and it still left multipliers. I view this as screwed up video pokers device so after vulturing the mistake I put in 10 coins hoping the device will continue to provide free money. This has happened to me only four times and only once did the machine continue making multiplier mistake for the next few hands.
Another bug I observed (All Star IIs) is that you'll have some UX screens on a particular ASII with a 10 coin requirement to access the next hand multiplier(s) on the given buggy screen (standard UX - not bonus streak UX and not spin poker UX) but on other screens with next-hand multipliers you can bet 5 or less coins to pick off the multiplier(s)- again, this is all on the very same machine.

As an aside, a fun way to churn your free play (if you don't find any stray multipliers to vulture the free play on) is to seed a UX with multipliers with the free play (via ten coin bets) and then vulture it off (with five coin bets) yourself with the remainder of the free play or with your own money (yes I know the free play is your money) . . .
Also based on what Barney posted, free play can be used find buggy (screens that generate multipliers with five coins in or for hands that shouldn't generate multipliers but do) screens I suppose.

AND to get an actual return of 1720% is just tits!

I've also bricked plenty of these so it can be shitty too.
    12x bricks are painful.

Thank god you didn't draw the 10 of diamonds on the other four hands ;-)

LOL Tableplay! I didn't even think about it if he drew 2 Royals Let Alone all 5!
I guess even smart, tight APs like IBYA have to take calculated risks.
He most likely had a back up plan using a shill or like the underage kids used to do... just leave! LOL
I don't know how it is in the Detroit Area but I am pretty sure in Vegas they gotta pay you as they roll you out the door... I think.

Yup, my bad Monet, two more NRFs to go along with the 3xer would've risked the '86.

I am sure you all read the story.
If he continues to gamble like that... 240k won't last long.
Maxing out all ATMs and paying those fees! That might be the definition of a degenerate.

Most people who never had large sums of money do not know how to handle it when they get it.
I do wish him well though and hopefully the sharks won't eat him alive.
I am guessing he told everyone he knows what he did.
It won't take long for all the friends and family members to come with the sob story and hand out.

Forgive me if I am being cynical or negative.
It is part of my nature.
I have had that draw on 3 play, 5 play and 10 play quarters about 11 times total over the years.
I never Flopped nor Drew One Royal with that Draw!

Yes, I read the story and had the same thought. Gambling is a very addictive activity.

I still like looking at the picture though.

First off, I'm not who you think. Second, this happened near the Mississippi River. Third, had a hand pay hit, you abandon it and leave!!

    I'd love to see a high-denom 12x royal with a 5 coin bet.

Thanks for all the feedback. I did forget to mention in the OP - I found an 8/6 Bonus Deluxe UX (99.6% return), but I don't really want to learn a new strategy just for one machine at one casino. Does anyone know how to calculate the loss in EV from playing the 7/5 Bonus UX strategy on that?

I believe Frugal poker and Wolf Video poker have this capability - you would want to generate the strategy chart for the 7/5 BP game and then import the generated chart into the 8/6 BPD and run a 900000 or higher simulation on it, or perhaps several 900K simulations on the 8/6 BPD using the 7/5 chart. Then you can look at the results of the simulation to see what the expected loss is. Note that the strategy involved would be for the non-UX 7/5 BP game. But if the Wizard of Odds has the 7/5 BP UX strategy available, you could use the "Tweak Charts" feature in either of these packages to tweak the generated 7/5 BP non-UX strategy chart so that it reflects the 7/5 BP UX strategy and then run the simultion(s) using the 8/6 BPD paytable.

    Cheers, tp.
