Thread: UltimateX Strategy/EV

  1. #1
I considered posting this on WoV, but I feel like posts tend to get lost/overlooked over there, so I figured I'd try it here first.

I've only recently gotten into UX, and learned the strategy on WoO for 10-play 7/5 bonus. But some of the games I have available are 5-play only. Does anyone know how to calculate the loss in EV from using that 10-play strategy for 5-play?

It’s going to be quite negligible.

But the way to do it, is to first figure out how frequently the “short pay” hands occur (multiplier wise). Then figure out the average return WITHOUT a multiplier. Then subtract that amount, times the frequency, from the overall return.

    Ultimate X 3 play bonus 7/5 = 99.28
    Ultimate X 5 play bonus 7/5 = 99.34
    Ultimate x 10 play bonus 7/5 = 99.40

I'll never play UX straight up.

    "Next Hand" multiplier(s).

Some newbies see the old ones thinking that it's a play when it's not.

    Third play of today...

Made a full house on DDB after this, hence more money on the ticket.

    This is Barney,

I too almost never play the ultimate x video pokers device straight up because in longest of runs it will take all of my monies leaving nothing for casino dates. However, there are the two exceptions. First, if the LID gest ahead during the casino roadtrip, I sometimes buy my own multipliers which I then vulture. I know this is losing strategy unless I win. Second, on very rare occasions the video pokers machine makes errors and provide multipliers for a hand that is not a winner or even some other vulturing personage put only 5 coins in and it still left multipliers. I view this as screwed up video pokers device so after vulturing the mistake I put in 10 coins hoping the device will continue to provide free money. This has happened to me only four times and only once did the machine continue making multiplier mistake for the next few hands.

Thanks, this may be what I was looking for. Just to clarify, the 99.34 on the 5 play is from using the same strategy as 10 play, or are there deviations you have to make to attain that number?

These are returns based on when played with optimal strategy.

I'm no expert on ultimate x so can't advise on that.

There is nothing more fun than a game where you can calculate your exact edge. Nice work sir. Just a 400% RTP (assuming a .95 paytable)... No biggie. ;-)

    I came up with a 361% return assuming a 95% base paytable.

    (38/10) * 0.95 = 3.61 = 361%.

RS is right. I must have read that 5x as a 7x. Appreciate the correction.

The Wizard of Odds has these payback numbers posted along with the strategies. Same strategy no matter how many hands. From looking at the strategies for the Ultimate X games it appears that straight and especially flush cards have a bigger value than in normal video poker. Three-flushes play where they wouldn't in the normal game. I imagine it has to do with when you make a flush you get a 10X multiplier on the next hand.
"More importantly, mickey thought 8-4 was two games over .500. Argued about it. C'mon, man. Nothing can top that for math expertise. If GWAE ever has you on again, you can be sure I'll be calling in with that gem.'Nuff said." REDIETZ

Bob Dancer reported that his only losing year in video poker, 2015, he was mostly playing Ultimate X. He says he lost 100K. From WoO the strongest version of the game appears to be 9/6 Double Double Bonus at 99.8663%. I imagine that was the version he was playing and probably getting freeplay on the action.

Some of us call the game Two For One.
I never liked the idea of 600 some odd variance.
Scavenger Plays or as you call it Vulture Plays are doable.
However, I hate having to go through all the banks and screens.
In Vegas they get swept up pretty much like the rest of the other Vision Plays.
They tell me people can make their rent money alone just by being an Ultimate X Vulture.
Many times I have some crack addicts badgering me to sweep up the Ultimate X at the Boulder Station when I am there.
The same guy every time I play there tells me that it is loaded at around 3 or 4 am.
I think he just likes to bug me because I always tell him that I am not interested.
If that Vulture Play is so great why does he never have money to take advantage?

If I get into that and Vision Machines I might as well go back to credit hustling as well.
That all seems to work together to me. On Break Time I can just stand outside with a sign these days and beg for money.
Vegas has new rules now for the past 5 to 10 years compared to the days when Metro would run you out lol.

Vulturing in Vegas is basically worthless except for some extra McDonald's money.

AND to get an actual return of 1720% is just tits!

I've also bricked plenty of these so it can be shitty too.

I've bricked my fair share too.
