Thread: Gold Strike rebranded

  1. #1
Gold Strike in Jean has been rebranded as Terribles Casino. I passed by on the way to LA for work. I'll try to stop in on the way back to look it over.

Terribles also built what they say I'd the biggest Chevron on the southbound 15. I haven't stopped there so I don't know if it has slots or is just a huge gas station and truck stop.

There's a Terribles in Fernley (Nevada) I've been to, at the truck stop hub (Love's accross the street) just off of I-80 so I guess it's a chain. They had slots/vp inside - small-sized casino.

As i remember the story, Terribles is a giant, well known operator of gas stations and truck stops with mini casinos inside... usually six or eight machines. They had a bankruptcy and restructuring and the original owners bought the Gold Strike following the restructuring.

Previously Gold Strike was owned by MGM.

I have stopped there a few times leaving the Pioneer Saloon in Goodsprings. Hopefully they do something to update it because it is just a sad place as GS. Tables are usually closed during the day and the few employees seem to hate being there.

Not sure if there is much opportunity to grow the business there other than truckers. Being between Primm and Vegas doesn’t exactly make it a destination.

    It's definitely a truckers casino.

Yes, Terrible's was once known as "Terrible Herbt's", and then later just became "Terrible's".

    They were originally gas stations.

There was a Terrible's Casino on Flamingo, east of the strip. It was the first place to ever back me off of a blackjack game, way back in 2000. Now it's called Silver Sevens.

I also drove by the Gold Strike in Jean this week, and also noticed it was called Terrible's.

If you remember, on the southbound side, there also used to be a casino, which looked like a riverboat. That got wrecked in early 2008.

Jean is a dead market. Prior to the ascent of Primm in the early '90s, Jean was the first location with casinos when driving into Vegas from California.

Primm killed it. Now there's no point to go to Jean, as you can do your first chance/last chance gambling at Primm, and your regular gambling in Vegas.

The showboat casino was called Nevada Landing and it was also owned by MGM. MGM knocked it down as part of a master plan to develop residential real estate, but the 2008 recession killed that plan. I think MGM still owns the land as I never saw a report it was sold. I think they still own the Primm Valley golf club too.

Primm was always around before the Jean casinos. It wasn't Primm that killed Jean.

Alan, there was virtually nothing in Primm until the early 90s.

I think there was one tiny "first chance gambling" type place, but it was a joke.

Once the real casinos arrived in Primm, Jean became a non factor.
