Thread: Trip to Harrahs Ak-Chin

Last weekend I went to Phoenix with my son. The main reason was to go to a 49ers vs. Cardinals game with tickets provided by Harrah’s Ak-Chin a tribal casino under the Harrahs umbrella.

We flew in on Saturday morning and rented a car. It was about 45 minutes drive from the airport. The resort has been updated and now we could stay in the Tower. There, however, still is renovations going on and we were told the pool would be closed starting November 1 so they could make it a “lazy river.” I went to the casino Event Center and picked up a Shell gas card for $120.

Attached to the resort by an elevated walk way is an entertainment center. My son and I bowled there while our room was being readied. It was fun to do that activity with the son as I haven’t done it in a while. There was also some fancy arcades and movies in that Center. We were given a suite with two rooms. It was nice and obviously brand new.

Seven Stars are entitled to two free buffets but since the buffet was under construction, I was given $50 per day we could apply to meals which we used for the Oak and Fork steakhouse. Dinner was pretty good. Here is a photo of the 28 ounce dry aged porterhouse we shared. I charged the balance to my room.

As part of my offers I had $500 in free play. I turned that into $600 and never looked back. Played it off on 8/5 Jacks or Better. Yes, I know that it is a terrible play table, but I wanted low volatility and the Bonus Poker was 6/5 (Yikes!). There is no full pay video poker on the premises. Obviously the Indians are taking their revenge.

I mainly played $1 and $2 denominations. I hit quite a full houses to keep me in the action, but no four or a kinds. I did not want to gamble a lot as my son, while over 21, does not gamble. Moreover, we agreed to watch a movie in the room. So eventually I just decided to play $5 Jacks or Better. I then hit a string of Four of a Kinds, including dealt nines:

The next day we grabbed a bite to eat. I played just a little in the morning to obtain an offer from the slot machine of the promised 44,000 in Reward Credits (about $440 in comps). Until then I was charging things to the room. When I checked out, I asked the front desk to apply my Reward Credits. To my surprise I was told my credits were applied but I still owed something like $10.81. I asked what that was about since I had so many Reward Credits to use – in fact the desk clerk confirmed I had $380 in Reward Credits but that the “computer” did not allow full payment for room chargers. I did not want to fight about such a small amount so I paid the $10.81 by credit card and got a receipt. I then subsequent concluded that the $10.81 was sales tax! I would have expected the desk clerk to be able to explain that. Since I had run out of Reward Credits until my offer was cashing in, I had no choice other than to charge to the room on Saturday. No biggie to me, but I wanted to alert you guys.

We then drove to the game. I was really impressed by the indoor stadium and how polite Cardinals fans are to visitors. The game was pretty boring in the first half as it was only 5-3 49ers at the half. But the end of the game was exciting as the Cardinals make a series of passes to score twice. With the clock running out, the 49er’s held the ball in extreme field goal range behind by 3 points. Then, the center hiked the ball over the QB’s head and the clock ran out.

Given that the 49ers were not going to the playoffs this year, I was not that disappointed and at least it was interesting.

I did not play much this visit which probably would be a disappointment to Harrahs given the comps I was given but at least I won some money and enjoyed a father-son weekend.

    FAB, great report, as usual.

How did you get the free tickets to the game? Is that a standard Seven Stars benefit, or was it an Ak-Chin offer?

    Thanks Dan.

The football tickets were a specific Ak-Chin offer. That casino also offered us tickets to baseball Spring Training games. The only previous time I was at that casino was in March 2018.
