Thread: KJ, How Are You Doing on Making Up That $29,000 Loss You Had a Month Ago

  1. #1
Anyway, I believe you once said you always take the last two weeks of the year off for vacation. It looks like your year is almost over. With winter setting in I'm pretty sure my blackjack year is over.

I remember last winter, there was a cold snap where parts of Iowa got to -15F.

Well, Winter is not setting in back in Vegas, so I can play all Winter, when I return home from a short blackjack trip that I am currently on. I usually play right up until Christmas eve or the day before. The week to 10 days after the Rodeo leaves town running right up until Xmas eve is my favorite time of year in Vegas. No big conventions, and less visitors in general as people have other obligations and needs for their spending money leading up to the holidays. It is just a slow relaxed time in Vegas. Some shows and restaurants even go dark during this period. Christmas Day it all starts to pick up with people from Midwest and California showing up to spend Xmas money and it builds through NYE.

So I do usually end my year right around Xmas eve or sometimes the 23rd. In part for crowds, in part to spend time with friends and family. Losing my best friend this year, it will be a little harder. I might feel like playing and keeping busy even Christmas week. I'll have to see. Either way, I will end up putting in the most play time (and accumulating more EV) than any other year by far.

As for the question in the title thread, come on MWP, you know I don't have to "make up" that result. Nothing to make up. That is Alan talk. That particular result falls within the standard deviation or "normal" range. You just go from there. The next result is the next result. No making up anything. All that number before the loss represents is an All-time high (ATH). And we are at a new ATH only 1.5% of the time.

Anyway, Enjoy your winter season. There is something to be said for watching the seasons change and experiencing the 4 seasons.

Yes, it's an odd question. I don't even think in those terms, at all. It's probably a bad idea to even field questions like that because you never want that kind of perspective to corrupt your routine.

In Midwest Players defense, he is snowed in for the next 6 months. Who wouldn't go looney tunes? His choices are down to go for a walk vs fall on my ass. CV Data and Verite gets you through the winter...AND improves your game.

Perhaps a better way to phrase it would be "hey KJ, have you been able to get the cheese back on your cracker"?

Yeah, in Wong's Professional Blackjack he mentions "Unfortunately, most of the time you seem to be losing. According to mathematician Peter Griffin, at most 1.6% of the time your present hand puts you at a new all-time high. The other 98.4% or more of your playing time, your bankroll is lower than it was at some time in the past. This can be tough on your nerves."

Anyway, I decided to count the number of all time highs I made this year. I made a total of 26 all time highs this year with 9 of them in a row. I have no complaints especially since I played only 44 times this year. Unfortunately, I did not end the year at an all time high, but the second to last time I played was an all time high.

This thread had me wondering if you were gonna do a yearly results post like you have sometimes in the past KJ... Not necessarily on this forum, but anyway I always enjoyed reading those. Another thing I was wondering about; even though you don`t do much of it, has your higher stakes play ever made a huge impact (good or bad) on your yearly results? I would think at higher stakes even just one really terrible shoe or a really epic one could have the potential to affect your results in a huge way even with getting a lot of hours in at the lower stakes...

I was there when it happened. Of course, being from where I live I'm used to it.

I learned a lot of tricks in Alaska. Snow tires. You need at least a 700 amp battery. Cardboard to stick in front of the radiator. Fill up at half tank. Sleeping bags and canned goods in the trunk. Water. Lighters.

And last but not least, a tarp and space heater. If the car gets "arctic seizure," won't crank because it's to cold. You throw the tarp over the car and stick the space heater under it. Give it an hour then crank up and go.

"More importantly, mickey thought 8-4 was two games over .500. Argued about it. C'mon, man. Nothing can top that for math expertise. If GWAE ever has you on again, you can be sure I'll be calling in with that gem.'Nuff said." REDIETZ

This is a smaller scale story than KJ's. Yesterday morning I walk into the casino. First thing happens is I walk up on a WMS 500 must hit at $487. These are coin-out must hits. The game was Kronos which I already knew had high variance. So I spin it off. I got the low end of the variance. It ran me to $498 and cost $1550 to hit it. I ran a $2300 wager so I literally got dropped for 67%. And this was with hitting the minor meter twice.

So on the first play of the day I'm stuck $1053. The steam was rolling out of my ears. My daily average win is a hell of a lot lower than that so I just knew I was going to book a rare losing day. However, I ran amazingly well on the rest of the plays for the day making $1077 on them. So I booked a solid $24 win for the day. LOL.

So, Alan, I still didn't have a losing day. Naaa na na naa naa

I need to educate myself for living in that kind of weather - valuable skill.

Thanks SplitFace, glad you enjoy and hopefully found those posts useful, as that was my purpose to show what kind of results occur from mid-level full time play. But I will not be posting such a post here. I am done trying to be helpful and contribute positively here. That simply is NOT what this site is about. This is a hate/attack site and that seems to be the owner's vision.

That was good Mick. I never heard a Country Western version before. We used to do it with a spin on Elvis. That one and Bad Company.
