Mt. Charleston is a mountain about 45 minutes from Las Vegas, by car. It's northwest of Vegas, and is around 30 degrees colder during most times of year. It can be nice to visit in the summer to get away from the sweltering heat. In the winter, they have snow, and even a small ski resort called Lee Canyon.

One challenge I had during the winter was trying to figure out if there was snow on the ground This was important because I liked taking my son up there to play in the snow, but it wasn't worth the drive if there was barely any of it.

I recently found a site with both a webcam and weather/snow report for the 8,000 foot level. There are some places you can drive to around 8700 feet, so that part should have a little more snow.
