Thread: 2 on dice

  1. #1
Here's why I didn't do the Wizard's bet (besides not making personal bets):

    Rolling 2-2 happens 1/36 times.
The bet offered a pay of 9/1 if I remember correctly.

When one die is known, a second die has a 1/6 chance of showing a 2. But when two dice are thrown, showing 2-2 is a 1/36 event.

There are eleven combinations where a 2 shows on at least one of two dice. Of those eleven combinations only one combination is 2-2 (which is what the 1/11 result shows).

While the chance of a single die showing a 2 is 1/6, the chance of throwing two dice with both showing 2-2 is 1/36. The Wiz was paying 9/1 for a 1/36 event.

The figure 1/11 doesn't apply to throwing two physical dice. It only tells you the total number of combinations with 2-2 showing out of all the combinations of dice showing at least one 2. Even if it did there are still TEN chances of losing a bet that pays 9 if won.

It's just a losing bet for me. Coach should not make this bet with anyone.

I won't lose, I'll use DI to roll more than the expected number of 2-2s, and fewer of the losing combinations.

But seriously...I won't lose because none of these Alan-bashers are man enough to face me in any sort of challenge, even when they think I'm mathematically certain to lose....with the possible exception of Axel, who seems willing to represent the Lollipop Guild.

If I'm wrong about that, then just step up and let's set it up for PRB week.

Notice that NO ONE commented how mickeycrimm made an incorrect statement earlier today about 1/11 and throwing two dice. The "AP mob" wouldn't dare criticize one of their own. They ignored it even after I asked them to comment.

But... there's no lack of support for isolating Rob's posts even though no one has given any information about Rob's so-called alternative math.

Meanwhile our forum owner and moderator has been banned by a casino for a non gaming event that he claims he is innocent of. Imagine if something like that happened to you, me, Rob?

I think everyone wants to just drop this discussion.

You wanted an example of alternative (false) math.
"More importantly, mickey thought 8-4 was two games over .500. Argued about it. C'mon, man. Nothing can top that for math expertise. If GWAE ever has you on again, you can be sure I'll be calling in with that gem.'Nuff said." REDIETZ

How are you going to DI dice that are being rolled out of a cup?

No one commented that I made an incorrect statement because I DIDN'T MAKE AN INCORRECT STATEMENT. Dunce Mendelson is at it again.

And Dan is not considering isolating Rob because of Rob's alternative math. He's considering isolating him because he's a NO GOOD SICK PATHETIC BAG OF SHIT TROLL MOTHERFUCKER!!!!!!

As far as lying goes I know put you, Mendelson, in the same category as Singer.

    Yes, it's a losing bet for you. You've finally, at least half-assed, admitted it's 1 in 11 and not 1 in 6.

The original question was not two dice being rolled at the same time... it was they were already thrown (in a cup), one showed 2, what are the chances that the other showed two as well...

The same answer can be made by just rolling one dice. How what are the chances of one dice showing a 2?

If both dice are thrown and the first one looked at does not show a 2, then it doesnt matter what the other one shows according to the original question.

    You're an idiot.

A hard four "on the hop" (or a one roll bet) pays 30-1. The odds are 36-1 for the 2-2 one roll bet. A hard four bet (2-2, 3-1) pays 7-1 if it hits before the dreaded seven. Hope I got your question right.
