Slots have a very bad return.. something like 90-92%. I can't see where playing slots for tier credits would ever be a good idea, aside from a jackpot situation which temporarily makes the machine +EV or close to it.
    $10 = 1 Tier VP
    $5 = 1 Tier Slots

Not sure how that adds up with the math.....

I forgot about the difference in TC accrual for coin-in.
    I suggested these slots because
    1) she was looking for other ideas for games other than VP to accrue TC
    2) the kinds I suggested can work well for that
    3) these can also be handy for promotions that exclude VP, which is how I figured what I knew and shared out.
There is always luck involved, moreso that meeting the lifetime EV stat of VP, but by risking a minimum amount these would be a useful alternative for limited play to vary things from VP.

Did you read Jazbo's article referenced in the link you gave? I think he describes it better than the Wizard. A $1 5-play is less volatile than a $5 single line. At Rincon I like to play the $1 5-play 9/6 DDB in the Diamond lounge in addition to the $5 aces & faces.

The host at Rincon gave some very valuable information in mentioning the six month average. Use that to maximize your offers at other properties.

You'll probably get good offers from Ak-Chin but unfortunately they treat everyone as a local so unless you want to drive there every week you won't be able to take advantage of them.

    Hey slyfox
that's so awesome. i'm trying hit 7 star this year (always diamond, haven't be able to become 7 star yet), and i'm using that TC bonus as strategy. I also go Harrah's on thursday because the 10X/5X promotion and i drive to there from Irvine. I went twice already this month and i already complete my diamond status for next year. i mainly play JoB but didn't fair so well, down about $2200. where are the 4 machines you said that locate at? do you have any other suggestion on my road to 7 stars? maybe i should start playing some slots too....lol

  5. #25
Hi Cloud and welcome. How many tier points do you have now for your $2200 loss, and what do you estimate 7 Stars will cost you?

What do you value the benefits of Seven Stars at?

  6. #26
    Hi alan,
I have about 16k so I guess if I don’t make it back, my expected lost will be 22000? Lol

I never been 7s before, so I want to see if I can hit it and experience see if it’s worth keep it long term

Cloud... seven stars ain't what it used to be. Unless you need priority lines and priority parking, skip it. The days (nights) of unlimited comps are over.

  8. #28
Yeah, after the devaluation three years ago where they took away aspiration level, I know it’s not worth it anymore....
So do you think mgm platinum is better?

  9. #29
I have played very little at the MGM casinos so I have no knowledge of their programs. Perhaps someone else will respond.

    Quick question alan,
You know how we all say if you hit a jackpot on slot machine, the likelihood of hitting it again on the same machine is very small....(we all know that’s not entirely true). So do you treat it the same way with VP? So let’s say we hit a 4 of kind, do you continue the same machine, or do you move on? I know this is base entirely on personal preference....but I just want to get your opinion

The results of one hand at VP have nothing to do with the next hand. Each hand is random and independent.

I've had runs with many quads in short order, and I've had runs where I didn't get a quad all day.

When I hit my $100k royals a couple of years ago, the royals happened to have been preceded by many quads. And after one of the $100k royals I got quad aces for $10k just a few hands later. But there was no connection. It just happened.

By the way, I only play VP on two high limit machines at Caesars. So there's no surprise that my big royals came on the same machine.

MGM platinum is not better than 7 stars and it is not meant to be - it is the equivalent of Diamond.

  13. #33
I see, so i guess it will be noir vs 7 stars, which one is better?

  14. #34
My understanding is Noir is very difficult to get for a video poker player. I've pretty much given up at MGM properties. A year ago I did Platinum in a day ($200,000 coin in) and waited for the offers to roll in. The best I ever got was $50 free play.

    Hi,
Good data point lol. I guess 7 stars still the only way to go.
Anyone else venture into other casino status? Like Venetian, cosmo, or the local one like palace station, etc

  16. #36
My wife and I were both Platinum at Cosmo but after we both hit a $5 royal on the same night the offers disappeared. Read what Monet has to say about Stations. We're both Chairman at Stations but we approach it as non-locals. Good offers but we expect to get cut off at some point. The cruises aren't as good through Stations since they don't guarantee a cabin category.

I'm interested to see what the merger of Marquee Rewards and mychoice brings about.

Please be aware that your offers (freeplay, rooms, food, etc) are NOT related at all to your tier level.

For example, there are some Gold (bottom tier) players getting better offers than Seven Stars (top tier) players at Caesars properties.

Tier leves are about guaranteed benefits, and offers are about your ADT (average daily theoretical loss in recent trips).

Many people erroneously think, "If I get to Seven Stars, I'm going to start getting some great offers", and then they're rudely disappointed.

The best way to get offers is, with a new card (or one you haven't used in 18+ months), come in once, run a good deal of play in a single day, leave, and then put the card in a drawer and don't touch it for 2-3 months. Do not use it for anything -- not parking, not play, not food, not anything. Do not redeem the first offers which come.

That will be your best way of getting offers, though they won't last long.

It's unlikely they killed your offers for hitting the two $5 royals ($20k each).

Casinos don't care about short-term luck.

They probably killed your offers because you weren't playing up to the standards they expected (compared to your play which earned the Platinum in the first place).

The only thing the two royals did was (probably) put you up lifetime there, which would remove any possible good graces the computer might have given you if you had run badly before that. You aren't usually punished for winning, offers-wise, but it does negate being rewarded for past losses.

This is very good advice but isn't 18+ months a little long? I've always used 6-12 months depending on the property.

We put in a lot of play but I think the theo of the 9/6 JoB isn't very good there.
