Thread: Harrah's Joliet Reward Credit Multiplier Dependent on Temperature

  1. #1
Speaking of Multipliers of CET casinos, Harrah's Joliet, near Chicago, has a Reward Credit multiplier offer, apparently available to all for machines on January 26, 2019 which depends on how cold it is on Friday January 25, 2019 as recorded at Midway Airport and reported on www.weather.com. The colder, the greater the multiplier.

I could not read all the details, including any specific time, but this seems to be Reward Credits and not just Tier Credits like at Ak-Chin's recent promotion. Rarely do Chicagoans hope for bitter cold, but this seems to be an exception for some gamblers.

Tier credit multipliers are actually better. That's why the Ak-Chin one was so unusual.

This one is interesting because it's worth watching if Chicago happens to get a cold spell on January 25.

The average low temperature on January 25 at Midway Airport is 22 degrees, which would make just a 3x RC multiplier.

Here's the weather in January 2018. Scroll down to "Daily Observations": https://www.wunderground.com/history...DW/date/2018-1

    It was never below -10.

There were 3 days below zero, which would have qualified for 10x.

There were 9 days in the single digits, which would have qualified for 7x.

There were 4 days in the teens, which would be 5x.

The rest (15 days) were 20 degrees or higher (2x or 3x).

Also, every day after January 17 was 17 degrees or higher, though that was just the weather patterns of that particular year.

However, looking at 2017, the patterns were similar, with the cold weather coming in early January.

The good thing is that this will be easy to predict about 10 days in advance.

Does it get any stupider than this?

    Weather forecast for January 25:

    High 21, Low 8

Might be worth watching. So far slated to be the coldest day in January!

we're 13 days out, Druff. Forecasts are extremely unreliable at this range.

EDIT: I also can't read the fine print at the bottom. Is video poker excluded?

I blew the picture up, and although the words were fuzzy, I saw no indication that VP was excluded.

VP is always included on point multpiers at Harrahs Joliet.

I will be at Joliet on that weekend on a Seven Stars Retreat trip. Looking forward to artic weather --at least on January 25.

www.weather.com seems to perdict a low of 11 degrees at least for now.

With any luck, it will turn out to be 9 degrees!

The hotel isn’t bad, steakhouse is good—but there’s nothing else in the local area. Food at the hotel is not good outside the steakhouse. Prepare to stay indoors unless you’re willing to drive or go by train to downtown Chicago.

    Hi Dankyone:

Joliet in January is not the usual Seven Stars Retreat location but I have relatives to visit in Chicagoland. I was thinking of taking the Rock Island rail road to downtown Chicago but given the weather, I might settle for walking to the Joliet Area Museum. Have you been there? I will hit the Reserve Steakhouse. How is the Diamond Lounge and are alcoholic drinks free there?

Finally, is it just me or do you think it odd that certain temperature ranges overlap ie 10 degrees is both 5X and 7X multipliers?

I’ve never been to a Joliet area museum.

It’s very doable to take the train downtown.

The food at the diamond lounge is not that great, but it is a full buffet lunch/dinner all day. They have a Seven Stars menu you can order sandwiches etc made to order. Alcohol is not free but below market price in the diamond lounge. They give you a few free sodas/waters in the room if you’re Seven Stars.

If you play a decent amount they will write you a comp to the steakhouse without taking RCs.

The overlap at 10 degrees is just another case of sloppy writing/editing by CET.

    Only if you jump in.

You can probably expect a 5X multiplier---7x if the weather breaks. It is a little warmer now but supposed to get cold the next couple weeks.

I used to spend a lot of time at the Harrahs Joliet but I have only been there once in the last 6 or 7 years. It is one of the casinos that barred me from throwing the dice. The steak house was always pretty good. The buffet was horrible. At that time, the food in the Diamond lounge was also horrible but it sounds like that may have improved.

They always had a lot of VP--but I don't know if there are many with good pay tables at this time.

There is another casino not too far away. It is a Hollywood casino which I believe is now owned by Penn Nat'l. They used to have some entertainment there but again I haven't been there in years. There I was accused of cheating but I was not barred. So I chose not to return.

As far as the Joliet area is concerned. there is really nothing else to do there. There is a pinball place(we talked about it in a thread on this forum somewhere) if that is of any interest to you. There are some restaurants in Lockport about 15 miles away. It is a long drive to the city and a pretty long train trip. You may be better off taking the train to some of the more upscale suburbs out that way.

    January 20 forecasted for -2.

Then it warms up, but then it will get cold again, right now forecasted to be 5 on the 25th and 0 on the 26th.

If players are lucky, the cold spell will intensify and slight move up in date, and the low will be in the negatives. That would take it to 10x. That would basically bring the house edge down 1%, BUT that's considering redeeming RCs at full value, which can only be used or on-property expenditures in such a way (freeplay is half value).

    Hi Dan:

I will keep my fingers crossed and maybe they will be frostbitten!

Assuming I can get use the multiplier to get to 30,000 points, I plan to transfer those RCs to Wyndham points, the maximum I can transfer per year.

15,000 points will get me a Wyndham hotel room pretty much anywhere in the world. To me that is a good use of RCs.

In the Chicago area, they also have the attached at Horseshoe Hammond, Indiana on certain Mondays and Tuesdays. Not dependent on cold weather. It may only be in January though. I happened to see it yesterday. It does not apply to video poker however.

Leave it to Caesars to post a promotion and then make the fine print unreadable:

Go ahead. Try to zoom in and read the fine print. You can't!

Anyway, I squinted my eyes really hard and finally made this out at the beginning:

Reward Credit Multiplier is based on the forecasted low (not including wind chill) of Midway International Airport, as reported at noon on January 25, 2019 for January 26, 2019.

Then it says something I can't make out regarding weather.com, presumably saying that they are using weather.com's forecast.

    So there you have it.

    Actual temperature doesn't matter.

Go to weather.com at noon CST on Friday, 1/25, and look up the next day's low. Then you'll know the multiplier.

The best VP game at Harrah's Joliet Chicago appears to be Illinois/Airport Deuces with Super Times Pay (99.19%) at the $1 denomination and up.

    Hi Dan:

Weird details, conditions and confusing. Not to mention that some (but not all) temperature ranges for multipliers overlap.

To the extent you can read them, do any details exclude video poker?

FAB--projected low tomorrow is -3. Looking at a 10x multi at that temp.
