Its so interesting to see people "dressed up" in these photos. I remember going to Yankee games as a kid with my dad and men would be wearing suits and ties and of course their hats. I also remember in fifth grade we had a discussion about how all male employees (office workers) of AT&T had to wear hats. That would be 1959-60 I think.

If you ever want to waste some time and enjoy vintage Vegas photos and videos, the 2nd floor of Cosmo has a hallway full of them going toward the Chelsea Tower. Including 2 screens showing old strip and casino videos.

Amazing trip down memory lane. And yes, Alan is right, everyone was dressed up in the casinos at night.

Remember how Wynn wanted a dress code for the Bellagio? No bluejeans and men were required to wear sport jackets.

That dress code was abandoned the day before the place opened.

On the EC, AC was mostly sport coats at a minimum it’s first few years. But sometime in the 80’s it slowly changed. Only on Fight Nights into the 90’s you would still see a majority of suits. Now someone in a suit playing is a rarity.

But I believe the casinos are happy with the change, it opened gambling up to more customers of all incomes. Today they don’t care what you are dressed like, just give us the action.

I remember the dress code when the Atlantic City casinos first opened. I was never in an AC casino.

    This is Barney,

The LID and I use to go to old Las Vegas a lot of times. Here is a photo I took of the LID, who is a world class dice controller, playing the game of craps in the Vegas. He made the asshole who was playing the don'ts on the LID very, very woozy and taught him a lesson on not betting against controlled tossers of the dices.

Love that picture of the cash game. Wonder when they went with chips?

I noticed no pyramids on the walls of the old craps tables. Not only these photos but also in old western movies. When were the pyramids added?

By the way, that's stage money.

did anybody else notice that that is Sammy Davis Jr. next to the guy shooting? he sometimes wore an eye patch, not all of the time.

for those youngsters who don't know, Sammy was at one time one of the most popular entertainers in the country

There are a bunch of videos on YouTube of driving up and down the old strip and old downtown.

    This is Barney,

Back in the mid seventies, before the LID became an AP and focused only on the game of the craps, the LID would work at the MGM during the day to augment his craps bankroll.

I think the shooter (with beard) looks like Jack Nicholson.

It's a Photoshop. The actual is Peter Lawford and is from Oceans 11.

Have a bunch from the years the Mint 400 Off Road race was run downtown. It's in the desert now but the tech inspection and other events are still downtown.

Do you have any from the race Hunter S. Thompson was supposed to cover but got too, ahem, "wasted" to go to?
