Thread: Anyone use a money belt?

  1. #1
First of all I use one just to protect me from ME! Several months ago, I had won a total of $700 and called my wife to tell her I was about to come home early with at least $600, as I was gonna play thru $100 more and if after 30 minutes or so things didn't really go that good I was leaving. Sure enough, I got down to $60 and started to leave- only my wallet was gone! The cameras couldn't see anyone near where the wallet was found and- yeah- the $600 gone. Fortunately the debit card wasn't. So nowadays I leave my debit card and only leave $200-$300 in my wallet. This serves two purposes. If I hit big, I have to go to the bathroom to place the extra cash in the belt. If I lose-I have to do the same to retrieve extra cash. Point being, I get a way from the action and have enough TIME to think about what I'm doing and if a better decision would be to leave. Not just the fact I'm human and can lose my wallet or worry about a pickpocket.

On an extended blackjack trip I always have my money divided up and placed in several different spots on my body. A money belt is where a large portion of it goes.

I own a money belt but rarely use it because I rarely wear belted pants.

Ladies have a huge advantage in this area due to bras and purses. A friend's mom won $5,000 back in the 80s on a bus trip to AC and brought it home in cash hidden all over.

It doesn't work for going through metal detectors but you can do a lot with safety pins and small cloth bags - use the tops of old socks, for example, or old pillowcase corners. Put a trifolded wad in the middle, fold around and pin on the edges inside a pocket with the pin release pointing away from your body so in the event it comes unlatched you don't get stabbed.

Another one I haven't done in years is inside of shoes. Flat bills in a baggie underneath an insert.

Whatever you do, like you said, don't keep all your money in the same place. And keeping it in places that you can't access without walking away to the bathroom or whatever makes you stop to think.

I don't need to hide money from myself. It's called discipline. Some got it. Some don't.
"More importantly, mickey thought 8-4 was two games over .500. Argued about it. C'mon, man. Nothing can top that for math expertise. If GWAE ever has you on again, you can be sure I'll be calling in with that gem.'Nuff said." REDIETZ

Sadly,, I don't have as much as I should. For me it will have to start as a habit as I forget when the action really gets good. They say it takes 21 days to break a habit and form a new one-so for me this is a start. Also, ANYONE can lose a wallet or have it stolen

Don't put all the money in one spot on your body. Break it up and put it in several spots.

That's something I forgot to mention. I got a nylon belt w/plastic latch and nylon zipper- undetectable to metal detectors.

Fortunately I have never lost a wallet, or money, or car keys, cell phone etc... Based on my personality, I'm a bit obsessed with what is on my person / in my pockets. When I go to a casino, for the sake of this conversation, I use a count. Typically my count will be 4 which includes wallet, money clip, cell phone, players card. Sometimes adding car keys when we're not spending the night. Each item is in a different pocket, and, starting when I stand up removing PC and putting in front shirt pocket, I tap for wallet, money clip, cell phone, car keys. I do this with such OCD type discipline that sometimes it makes my wife chuckle. I find myself doing it while I'm walking even though I already counted after getting up or using bathroom.
It's something I have been doing so long I don't even think about nor does it take any effort. I just need to determine the count number.

    I have issues, I know.

What about fanny packs? Has anybody thought of using a fanny pack instead of a money belt?

My wife did a few times in the 80’s when we first started going to Vegas. While I wouldn’t laugh at anyone who was wearing one, I would laugh now if she did.

Yeah, that was kind of my thought. This could be a great cover for APs if they didn’t mind being laughed at and looked at funny from time to time.

They may still make relatively flat ones that don't look too bulky when you have a shirt not tucked in and hanging over it. I had one I used when my kids were little as I couldn't hold hands and manage a handbag along with the diaper bag. I found it at a sporting goods store. I've thought about tracking down another one for Vegas because it was really handy and not terribly unsightly.

Fanny packs work great, especially if you're wearing a jacket to hide the fanny pack. They're more convenient than a money belt because it's easier to access and a bit bigger, so you can just shove shit in there if necessary, like car keys / cigarettes+lighter if you smoke / W2Gs / etc. And assuming it has a few zippers, easy to organize and you can have different money in different pouches.

Doesn't work so great during the summer, though.

IME, I usually don't need to have too much money on me. I can easily hold $15k without needing extra pockets / money belt or fanny pack / etc. If I need to hold more than that (either win a lot and/or just need more for a play), then arrangements can be made and I can obv hold more, just not super comfortably.

You do not have issues, or then, we both have issues.

Whether I am leaving the house, basketball practice, or any other venue, it goes; wallet, keys, phone, glasses. Family and friends used to laugh until they started to forget items, especially my 25 year old son who has lost a few cell phones.

The best way to get a glare from other is to go; wallet , keys, phone, glasses. Three minutes to Wapner.

ONE last issue- now that KEYS were mentioned! About 10 years ago I locked my keys in the Chrysler- where my phone also lay!. I had to walk 7 miles to get the spare from my wife and 7 miles back. I ALWAYS use the keypad to lock ALL my vehicles- that way key is always in hand.

Also good for a nutribar snack! Condiments are WAY overpriced at the gift shops. Also, eye drops for residual smoke and air mask for inconderate players. Many others. May take one today.

The Lamborghini is in post #21 of the Retro Road Trip thread. The "phantom bucks" are in the trunk.
