Thread: Dan Druff's MLB picks 2019

Three dogs, who also happen to be home teams.

Miami (T. Richards) +146 vs. Colorado (Marquez) - Richards, who has been though to have hidden upside, had an incredibly dominant spring, especially his final start

Seattle (Kikuchi) +125 vs. Boston (Eovaldi) - Kikuchi, a long-sought-after Japanese pitcher just hitting his prime age (27), looked great in his first start against Oakland last week (in what was a real regular season game)

Tampa (Morton) +130 vs. Houston (Cole)

Should have gone 2-1 on those dogs on Friday.

Tampa was ahead the whole way and won. The Marlins got crushed at the end.

But Seattle was up 6-1 and let it get away, losing 7-6.

    Hunter Strickland sucks.

    Record after Day 1:

    1-2, -0.7 units

Here's one you have some time to bet.

Miami (P. Lopez) +121 vs. Colorado (T. Anderson) - Tyler Anderson had an ERA of almost 8 this spring, Lopez looked good. Miami should get their first win today.

    Oops.

I forgot to post two I posted on the other site (Pokerfraudalert).

I did Under 9 for Mil/StL which tied (so it doesn't matter).

The other was Texas +117 vs Cubs, which is losing 6-5 right now in the middle of the game.

Counting both in my record here for consistency

Angels (Stratton) +104 (down to -105 ok) at Seattle (F. Hernandez) - King Felix is going to get hammered.

Oakland (Brooks) +127 vs. Boston (Price) - Price's problems are back. He looked terrible in the spring and barely pitched.

    Both starting 7:05-7:10 PDT

Pretty good start to MLB despite the 1-2 beginning. Since then:

Miami (P. Lopez) +121 vs. Colorado (T. Anderson) - WON
    Pittsburgh (T. Williams) at Cincinnati (S. Gray) - Under 8 -105 - WON
St. Louis (Wacha) at Milwaukee (Burnes) - Under 9 -115 - TIED
Texas (Lynn) +117 vs. Cubs (Hamels) - WON
Atlanta (Newcomb) -105 vs. Cubs (Hendricks) - WON
Angels (Stratton) +104 at Seattle (F. Hernandez) - LOST
Oakland (Brooks) +127 vs. Boston (Price) - WON

    That's 5-1-1, +4.55 units

    Overall: 6-3-1, +3.85 units

    Underdogs: 4-3 (+1.95)
    Totals: 1-0-1 (+0.95)

0-1 on each of the last two days. Should've won that Pittsburgh one. They blew a 3-0 late lead, and had bases loaded 1 out, down 5-4 in the bottom of the 10th, yet failed.

Here's two today. Lots of time until they start.

Cincinnati (Mahle) +103 at Pittsburgh (Lyles) - Public is very much on Pittsburgh here, but Mahle looked sharp in the spring, and the Reds will get off the floor. Also of note is the fact that the books are moving the line in the opposite direction you'd expect, given the heavy Pirates betting.

Atlanta (Fried) -116 vs. Cubs (Yu) - Fried looked excellent in the spring. But this is also against Fuck Yu, who looked bad in his first start, and hasn't been right ever since the 2017 postseason.

Disappointing to see a foul pole bottom-of-the-8th inning HR turn my winning under pick into a loser with the Dodgers yesterday. Also disappointing to see the Twins give up 9 runs and lose that big dog pick despite scoring 6 themselves. At least F Yu's failure was good for another underdog win.

I just have one pick today, and it's once again versus the Cubs.

Pittsburgh (Musgrove) +116 at Cubs (Quintana)

These are two pitchers going opposite directions. Musgrove has long been thought to have potential to be good, and there's some belief (including from his first start) that he will finally show some of that in 2019, rather than his toiling in mediocrity as he has in the last 3 seasons.

Quintana got absolutely bombed in his last start, and some believe his career is on the verge of ending. Even the Cubs don't want to start him, but it's either him or the lousy Tyler Chatwood in the 5th spot, so they're sticking with Quintana for now.

    Pittsburgh couldn't hit, lost 2-0.

Two dogs for tonight... starting very shortly:

White Sox (Giolito) +183 at Yankees (Happ)

Miami (Alcantara) +145 vs. Philadelphia (Arrieta)

    14 innings. Loss.

There were two dogs I considered today. One was Pittsburgh, and one was Miami.

I went with Miami and passed on Pittsburgh.

Both were tied in the late innings.

Pittsburgh went on to win, and Miami lost in 14 innings (at home, no less).

My pick was based upon my belief that Urena would pitch a good game, despite his bad numbers. That he did.

Sadly the Miami offense was nonexistent (as it often is), and they subsisted on a solo HR by Brian Anderson for 14 innings before Wei Yin Chen surrendered 2 runs. He's awful. I knew when he entered the game, we were fucked.
