    Thanks for the education.
Talk about the original Advantage Player!
It's funny how many people live on the grift and away from the public eye who are better than professionals.
I also find it odd that they never mentioned Titanic in all the Ben Hogan movies or documentaries that I watched or at least I don't recall him being mentioned.
Titanic probably didn't care about the recognition as he was like Bert Gordon.
All he cares about is the money!

No problem Monet. Yeah a lot of these hustlers make way more than professionals (just like Titanic is quoted as saying above regarding the cut in pay if he were to turn to pro golfing rather than golf hustling) and their income depends on staying below the radar as you know. No telling what some of the chess hustlers make compared to most grand masters and some of them are better than most grand masters as you point out above. Obviously top pros in the major sports make huge amounts of money (Magnus Carlsen,Tom Brady, etc.), but all the pros below that probably get out-earned by hustlers. Other sport hustles for making bank:basketball (White Men Can't Jump touches on this world of playground legends),pool, and bowling to name a few. But those hustles are for younger men. Big money for us older men is at casinos.

My Weird Al kick ended a week or two ago but I watched his new movie the other night.
Kind of mixed feelings about it.
It was pretty far out there.
    Even for Weird Al.
I got the humor of it but it felt like it dragged on as the joke just got too redundant.
They went too far with about 5% Truth and 95% Fiction/Satire.
I think it would of been better/funnier with a 75% Truth and 25% Fiction ratio.
Worth a viewing but I doubt it is worth multiple viewings.
Sort of reminds me of SNL Skits that are really good but they go too long making a movie.
    Some examples:

    Zoolander
    Night at the Roxbury
    It's Pat
    Ladies Man
    MacGruber

I'm in Monet, thanks for the great synopsis. I don't think I saw It's Pat (The SNL character was super funny, so I might watch that one). I don't remember much of Ladies Man, but I believe I saw it. The rest of them I remember and I think MacGruber was very funny and the rest of them that I remember from that list are OK.

I can see why you didn't include Coneheads on that list since that one was so good that it didn't seem like it ran too long.

I wasn't reviewing the movies as I liked most of them.
Zoolander and Zoolander 2 is funny enough.
    Nothing wrong with MacGruber.
I was just saying that the skits are funny and over the top and worth 5 minutes.
When you try to stretch them into 90 minutes the comedy seems to wear thin.
I didn't include Superstar either as I was just listing a few examples.
Superstar, as a movie, is funny enough but the skit is hilarious.
Wayne's World might be the best transition of a skit that works as a movie, so tough to include them into the so-called list.
I didn't even think to mention Stuart Saves His Family because I can't even remember the movie let alone much of the skit.
And like you say, Coneheads and the Blues Brothers are by far the best of the bunch and not even worth mentioning as they work as stand alone movies.
Blues Brothers is by far the clear winner out of all of them for best movie.
Blues Brothers 2000 was a cash grab in my opinion and should be burned.

I am queuing up Paradise City (2022) with Bruce Willis and John Travolta after I watch the Weird Al movie later on. Rotten Tomatoes gave it one star so it sounds like it will be right up my alley.

What I don't understand about these guys is why not retire and enjoy the money?
I guess fame and making movies is just like any other addiction.
And I suppose that the money machine has to keep rolling in as even they live above their means.
Nick Cage I understand because the IRS seems to own him.
They pimped him harder than anyone I can think of.
I haven't seen his latest movie that was sort of like the Weird AL movie Biopic.
I'm waiting for it to be free on the movie channels which is right around the corner if not already.
In my opinion UHF is by far the better movie compared to Weird and UHF is by far more rewatchable.
At least Weird AL didn't bow down to the PC Bullshit and make it all inclusive casting every demographic and sexual orientation.
I watched 5 minutes of Spirited the other night on AppleTV and turned it right the Fuck Off lol.
I got as far as the lady coming out of the house and being nice to the kids.
I do not believe all the 10/10 reviews for that movie.
The 1/10 reviews are funny to read through and I'm in that camp and I only watched 5 minutes!

I agree about the addiction and fame part of it. Additionally, I think that it is such easy money that it's hard to pass up, especially since their kids and other relatives will probably never have a chance to make such easy money so they are going for the generational wealth.

Disney's woke agenda caused a huge drop off in revenue and the new CEO (rehired from the past) said they will focus on staying out of politics, so it will be interesting to see if the movies improve (i.e. stop the contrived diversity). I agree about Wayne's World and the Blues Brothers - classics. I never saw the Stuart Saves His family skits or movie and cannot comment. I saw Superstar and thought it was decent.

That's right. I saw the new Weird Al movie and it was straight forward with no contrived diversity as you describe. I thought the movie was solid and I appreciate the heads up. The Madonna parody throughout much of the movie was funny as was the fallacious concept that MJ's Beat It was a parody of Al's Eat it.

It seems when I read the user reviews, they either really love it or really hate it.
I got the jokes far more than my uncle did as he has a difficult time comprehending what AL was doing with this parody/satire movie.
AL likes to do this sort of thing pushing viewers or listeners to see how much he can irritate them.
    That's fine.
I liked the concept for the first hour.
The movie started to spiral out of control for me once Madonna was kidnapped.
I think Weird AL missed a chance to do his Rambo impersonation from UHF as I was really expecting it and even forecasted it.
But I guess AL did that already so probably didn't want to do it again as he seems to like to do new material.
The ending was a bit abrupt for me and fell flat with the comedy as it was difficult for me to associate real life into this fictitious ending/parody world.
I mean take Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison.
Both movies are just as ridiculous, but I can watch them over and over again and laugh at the jokes.
Most likely due to those characters not based off of someone's famous life and career.
I get what Weird AL was doing and how he is making fun of Biopics and Hollywood it is just a bit too much for me knowing most of his real life timeline.
The movie was free and I could feel different in the future but I doubt I would add the dvd to my collection.
I feel a little bad for the salesman with the collapsed lung but I thought the Polka Party and Copper bit was pretty genius.

Great points Monet. I can't help but wonder if Al has a bone to pick with Madonna, the way she was portrayed in the movie. I liked the virtuoso accordion playing at the Polka party by young Al - his fingers were really flying. I am thinking of watching UHF again since it has been a long time since I saw it and it's a lot of fun to see. I really like some of these silly movies because of the care free attitude of them. Another one I liked along those lines was Little Nikky. You probably liked this one too since you liked Billy Madison just as I did.

I seen it a few times because I've always been a big Sandler Fan back in the 90s and early 2000s.
That movie is one of my least favorites.
    Too demonic/satanic for me.
Some of the jokes certainly were clever.
I just figure that I'll be there soon enough, and I don't like the thought.

Sandler really went downhill starting with that movie That's My Boy.
He really went deep with the incest and offensive humor.
I remember him from his MTV days and if you saw his first movie, I suppose it was just a matter of time before he crashed.
That was called Going Overboard and it is very difficult to watch.
Got to hand it to him though.
He really cashed in and really exploited his comedy at the right time with Netflix.
Even though the 6 movies or so that he made with them are horrible its impressive that he got 500 Million Dollars for them.
It's like the biggest Fuck You I ever seen.
I think he signed a contract to give them 4 movies and they gave him the money.
And since it was an upfront deal, he just makes the worst movies he can think of without a care in the world.
I didn't watch his recent NBA Movie since it seems too woke for me and his Uncut Gems movie was probably the best thing he has done in 15 years.
In my opinion his stand up in the last 15 to 20 years is horrible too.
I guess once you build up a strong enough following the material/art just doesn't matter anymore.
It's all just a numbers, abc+xyz and algorithm game to make hundreds of millions of dollars.
He cracked the code and seems to go against the Hollywood Model though so that's cool as he still just wears t-shirts and drinks milkshakes not giving a Fuck but that could all just be an act to keep up his brand.
Whatever though, don't mind my ranting.

Might as well rant some more while I am at it.
Joe Rogan, Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld have also proved this numbers game and cracking the code so to speak.
Joe Rogan is a bit disappointing to me because the more you listen to him the more you realize he is full of shit and just an act.
But at least he does bash the government, seems to be against covid vaccine mandates and does have interesting guests on from time to time.
Less interesting since he got in trouble for saying the word nigger.
The idea that he was selling Joe Rogan Cloth Masks and had no idea he was selling them is disturbing to me.
It is also a bit disturbing that someone who pushes health and exercise so much is an obvious alcoholic and drug addict lol.

Great insights Monet. I also thought Uncut Gems was a good movie. It was a plausible movie full of plausible characters. It was a long time since I watched the Wedding Singer, but I thought that one was pretty good IIRC.

Black Adam is about to be a Major Flop.
The film has only recovered about 400 Million and needs 600 Million to break even.
Do you smell what the Rock is cookin'??
    I do.
    Go Woke.
    Go Broke.

LOL. Thanks for the news Monet. Disney owns Marvel so of course it comes as no surprise.

Some people actually love the movie because they watched it when they were a kid or teenager, and it resonates with them.
I remember watching it back in when it came out and I didn't like it very much and completely forgot about it.
Today it was on Encore or some channel like that and I watched it with my Uncle.
I laughed my ass off through most of it but found the last 20 minutes a bit challenging as the humor was starting to wear thin.
I think a viewing every 20 some odd years is good enough for me.
I can't understand making that movie or acting in it and looking around at everyone in agreement that we did it, we made a great movie!!!
Scott Glen being Scott Glen is about the best thing in the movie for me and you get a somewhat evil Bill Paxton.
It's hard to imagine Scott Glen as some top-level climber though.
