Hard to rate them as you can interchange many of Kubrick's movies.

    1. Barry Lyndon
    2. Dr. Strangelove
    3. 2001
    4. The Shining
    5. Full Metal Jacket (etc. etc.)

Not sure we ever got into Paper Moon but it's definitely worth multiple viewings.
That's a great list - the ones on the list I remember most vividly are 2001 and the Shining, and the remainder are ones I haven't seen in a very long time or never saw (Barry Lyndon).
I enjoyed the humor of Paper Moon quite a bit - I think the Coen Brothers adapted some of their Clooney movies' comedy from it (O Brother Where Art Thou; it seems like Clooney's character took some traits from Ryan's character). I agree with the critics about the chemistry between Ryan and his daughter - it bleeds into the film perfectly. I don't remember discussing Paper Moon here. It was this level of success that allowed Ryan to make easy money on films like Fever Pitch, where they simply rely on his stardom to make the film work and get people to buy tickets for it (but like you wrote - it bombed globally even though it was solid movie). Kind of like those Clint Eastwood Every Which Way but Loose movies where a big star has some movies built around them to pick up some easy money for the studio and actor after a box office success (of his westerns and Dirty Harry).
Not a list perse, more so how I rate the order of my favorite Kubrick Movies.
Anyhoo, I haven't watched Interstellar for about 9 years, and I remember hating it 9 years ago.
Sometimes, on a rewatch, I change my mind.
    Not this time.
I watched the entire movie again and again I still hate it.
I hated that movie Gravity too.
I don't want my Science Fiction to take itself so seriously.

Yes there was nothing special about Gravity or Interstellar. I noticed that Clockwork Orange didn't make your top 5 rankings. The violence was difficult to watch and I'm guessing that was a factor.

The 9th Symphony is my favorite musical piece that I have ever heard.
I wouldn't say that the violence is an issue as I've watched far worse.
I don't watch or like horror movies, but I own a copy of the Shining and watch it from time to time.
So basically, my list is personal preference, but anyone could change the order of their top ten and it would make sense whatever the list.
A Clockwork Orange is near the bottom for me because I like the other movies better.
You could say that Barry Lyndon is a far worse individual but the journey you go on in that movie is a smoother ride compared to Clockwork.
    All Subjective Of Course.
I own a copy of A Clockwork Orange as well and still rewatch it when the urge strikes.
I also have a copy of Lolita but never watched it yet due to the subject material.
Obviously, it is dead last on my list, as I have never watched it and probably long in the tooth to stomach it.

I did a bit of a marathon last night and ran into this movie again.
I've probably watched it 4 or 5 times in the last 20 some odd years.
Really well done if you can relate to the characters which I can.
I could do without the 2-minute epilogue.
It kind of ruins it for me.
I don't want to spoil anymore.
I read through the comments, and it seems most people can't stomach this kind of realism.
    I feel the opposite.
I get lost in this kind of movie.
I enjoy Dafoe but not sure he is necessary in this.
He has a 2019 movie out called "Tommaso" that I plan to watch but unsure how good it is.

Around the year 2000 right before James Coburn died, he was working on one of his last films in the Cleveland area.
He would come into the lobby lounge at the Ritz-Carlton and order a refreshment or two and sit on one of the sofas.
I would have to wake him up a few times to close out the register as it was time for me to close down.
He may not have had to stretch very far in acting for Affliction.
I read that he had severe arthritis during the film but was able to knock it out with massages, drugs and grit.
He earned the Academy Award for this role.
I never watched LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, but Roberto Benigni beat out Nick Nolte that year.
Nolte was really good in this but maybe a bit too over the top or too much Nick Nolte if that makes sense.
I like him better in the Thin Red Line because you don't get too much.
You get the perfect amount of him.
They didn't even nominate him for that role!?
Anyways, it's free on YouTube with a few adds here and there.

    AFFLICTION (1997)
    Nick Nolte
    James Coburn
    Sissy Spacek

I am a life-long "Godzilla" fan and was pleasantly surprised to learn about the upcoming USA release of a new movie: "Godzilla Minus One."

Rotten Tomatoes rated it "100%" and the early reviews from theater goers (in Japan: already opened there, it is a Japanese made movie) are all positive.

I'll take my grandson to see it when it opens as he's a true fan of the beast.

    What, Me Worry?

Thanks for the reco Monet. I missed this one in theaters for whatever reason and I look forward to watching it.

Since it's released in Japan already, there's a possibility it's already on putlocker. If not, I'll wait until an HD version hits putlocker and then watch it. thanks for the reco Mr. V.

Ok it turns out that the sports betting movie Lay the Favorite, which I had mentioned I would see in another thread, is a rock solid reco. As usual, please disregard this post if you have already seen this movie.

I'm gonna have to cue that up today!
I got on a bit of a 70s kick recently once again.
Just did a triple feature the other night.

    Vanishing Point
    Eddie Coyle

and a movie I forgot about.
    Really good movie.
    Lots of history and nostalgia.
I never liked the title, but I love how it ends.
The irony of Vic Morrow, chasing bandits, in a helicopter, is palatable...

Oh, yeah, I seen this movie when it first came out.
I wouldn't put this movie into my collection but it's worth one viewing.
    I forgot most of it.
The only things I remember is Bruce Willis doing the 2000-dollar betting thing with shills all over town/online.
    I sorta remember the ending.
I'd rate Two for the Money higher than this movie.
I still have never found a top tier sportsbook/wagering movie.
The Runner is still the best in the category IMO.
Plenty of great scenes, in other movies, like when James Caan is talking to M. Emmet Walsh at the bar during half time.
You had me geeked up for a second there.
I'll rewatch it later tonight just to make sure since it's free on YouTube.
Honestly, I enjoyed Fever Pitch 100x more than this movie.
That movie is super realistic and showcases how degenerates can go on a massive run from a couple of bucks.
Wish I could get that on DvD.
I feel fortunate to actually find it free online in the archives.
I hate when YouTube restricts a video like this...

Nice triple feature list. Obviously the creative, realistic, tragic ending of Dirty Mary Crazy Larry cannot be forgotten .

Yes I also enjoyed Fever Pitch. I think what I really liked about Lay the Favorite was the funny dialog and all the truths inside the dialog. Another thing was the realistic portrayal that people have a lot of sides. For example Dink's wife came off as bitch at the beginning, but she turned out to be trooper as the movie progressed. Also the flippant way huge amounts of cash is thrown around in that world was fun to watch since that is actually how it goes down. Finally, I liked that they showed how things fall into place more easily for attractive women in the job market and other aspects.

The first time I watched Vanishing Point I didn't like it.
I didn't understand it to be honest.
Later in life, it started to really hit home.
That movie along with DMCL has amazing footage/scenes that I took for granted for a long time.
I didn't realize how crazy you have to be to make movies like that.
Peter Fonda was driving 100+mph hour for real and the camera crew was going just as fast following him.
In Vanishing Point they made a lot of mistakes with the camera work.
But those mistakes were genius in that they gave us a feeling of actually going that fast and following along.
The stuntmen were unreal in those days and perfectly choreographed both movies.
And the helicopter pilot was one of a kind and did both movies creating some of the best footage ever filmed.
It's the WW2 and Vietnam Vet Era.
These guys had brass balls and nerves of steel.
That's why I hate when the kiddies trash the Boomers.
We basically owe the Boomers everything.
And stop lumping Gen X into the Baby Boomers!

I found out the other day that they made the FALL GUY into a movie.
    It looks horrible.
I find it funny how big Lee Majors and how the Tik Tok Generation has no clue.
Dude was killing it on the Big Valley with Barbara Stanwyck before the 6 Million Dollar Man.
I watch a few episodes here and there and they still hold up IMO.

You got me going now, lol.
I never watched South Park Season 20 before.
I caught the entire season on Comedy Central the other night as they ran all the episodes back-to-back.
This is the season people either hate or love.
    I loved it.
It's basically one big South Park Movie.
The Member Berries are the funniest thing I ever seen South Park do.
I was never a big South Park fan.
I would catch an episode here and there but season 20 is worth watching IMO if you haven't watched it.
This is the season that broke them because they deviated from their usual formula.
And it revolves around the 2016 election.

Great points regarding Vanishing Point and Dirty Mary Crazy Larry. I just saw an Episode of Big Valley - in that episode Lee's mom was kidnapped by a group of outlaws which included the legendary Bruce Dern - you've probably seen that one. They show Big Valley on the over-the-air channel MeTV along with The Rifleman and others. Anyway, I am going to take a pass on the new Fall Guy movie - thanks for letting me know. I liked the light-hearted mid-80's Fall Guy series.

I forgot to mention, I also just watched the sports betting movie Even Money (Danny Devito, Kim Basinger, Forrest Whitaker, Ray Liotta, etc.) a few days back. It was Ok (average rating) and worth a watch on a slow queue day, if you have not seen it.

This went over my head a bit.
I didn't realize he just died.
Even though I knew he was involved with Farrah Fawcett and basically caused the Lee Majors divorce, I glossed over it.
Sort of forgetting that it was him.
And I watched John McEnroe's documentary but glossed over him being married to Ryans daughter lol.
I'm usually quicker than this but I tend to not keep up with gossip.
Ryan didn't make a ton of movies but I enjoyed many that he made.
They seemed to give him the "dark side" characters, which most of the population doesn't relate to.
I watched him in Fever Pitch again since we were talking about it.
That movie is so spot on in capturing the ups and downs of degenerate gambling.
Those scenes inside the Bike and Casinos are so well done at showing how things really used to be.
That scene in the beginning with the cocktail waitress on the bed is amazing.
She really nails it talking about getting on a fever and cracking their walnuts.
That girl in Talladega Nights (Isla Fisher), must have watched it for research, because she does the same exact routine.
Talking about Nascar Racing instead of Gambling though.
I can't believe it took me almost 40 years to hear or know anything about it.
It really is a movie that only gamblers will like, relate to and understand.
Advantage Players are excluded as they will hate it like they hate James Caan in the Gambler.
    They're Wrong.
Time to watch him in The Driver again.
Good Follow up after watching Vanishing Point and Dirty Mary Crazy Larry.

I love the quote so much I had to go back, watch it and write it down.
That horses/keno bit is damn fine writing in my opinion.
I just want to say that his 89-thousand-dollar run isn't very far-fetched.
He won 7 grand off of a 3-dollar wager in slots.
Once he had the 7 dimes it isn't very difficult to run it up to 89 grand.
Especially when he doubled 12 to 24 in one shot.
Getting from 3 dollars to that 7 grand is the difficult part.
I'm pretty sure he had a hard ten bet that he left up at the end of his dice roll when he abruptly quit.
Probably took it down though as we didn't get to see that part.

    What's it like, this feeling?
How do you know when you've really got it?

    Happens Suddenly.
    Suddenly you know it.
    Deep Down.
    Gut Feeling.
    This is the day.
This time I'm gonna hit it big, I can't lose.
Horses, Keno, Slots, Blackjack, Craps, Football, Give the Points, Take the Points, Overlays, Underdogs, Bust the Bookies, Nothing like it, right?
    Power Right?
    Damn Right!
    And I got it.
    I am it.
    A Winner.
    I am the one.
