Thread: Should he have won his lawsuit?

Ridiculous argument Bob21. Gambling is an addiction. Alcohol is an addiction. Both of these addictions destroy millions of lives and the lives of those families. You are going to compare that to Marriot hotel encouraging people to stay there? Again just ridiculous.

Worst two situation of casino predatory behavior was the practice of cashing social security checks for senior citizens, back when social security checks were paper. Please Bob21 defend that! And while it is true that businesses like a grocery store would cash a social security check, groceries are an essential part to survival. Whatever casino low life executive came up with the idea of cashing social security checks should be shot. No trial. Just shot.

Second and related is the cashing of paychecks. Encouraging a working father to cash and spend his paycheck before he ever gets home to pay the rent and buy groceries for his kids.

And yes there is some personal responsibility. Does that mean we should legalize crack and have a crack/cocaine outlet on every block? Hey maybe employers should make available the option to pay employees in drugs and alcohol and casino chips.

Bob these addictions all ruin lives. And not just that of the addict. When the grandmother on social security loses her social security check and can't pay her rent, and then needs government assistance (welfare) for housing needs, then we all pay. When the father loses his job and can't pay his rent and his family goes on assistance, we all pay. When that same father commits a crime to fuel these addictions that the casinos have encouraged and goes off to jail, we all pay to support his family.

So while there is some personal responsibility there is also corporate responsibility. The casino industry business model is closely tied to something that is addictive and destroys people and families. They have a responsibility other business don't have to not fuel that addiction with other addictions like alcohol. IF they won't do it then maybe the government should. Maybe the answer is that there should be no alcohol served on the casino floor. You can go to dinner within the casino and have a drink. You can go to a bar and have a drink, but no drinking on the casino floor. And no orders for cocktail waitresses to keep someone's glass filled until he can no longer stand.

You’re making my point for me Kj. It’s the nature of casino’s business that is bad. That is why they have been illegal for most of our history. There is no way to run a casino in what some AP would say is a humane way. In every place casinos have opened, crime, divorce and bankruptcies have gone up. You can not show me one place where this didn’t happen.

So the question is why has our society legalized casinos? A couple reasons: 1) the main one is because governments have found it’s an easy way to collect revenue without getting voted out of office. It’s basically a volunteer tax. And 2) because our society likes them.

Your point about why crack isn’t illegal is a good one. It harms people in society. This is why most conservative believe casinos should be made illegal. Whenever casinos are on the ballet in my local community, I always vote against them.

I’m surprised so many people are disturbed with casinos cashing social security, payroll or tax checks. If you think this is so bad, why don’t work with our government to make this illegal? As long as it’s legal, I see no problem with it. Personally, I see this as a good thing. Casinos are saving senior citizens a trip to the bank. What’s bad about hat?

Toes made his money in the trucking business, bought The Eagles. Lived in a mansion in the exclusive Main Line section of Philly suburbs. Tose ran up huge gambling debts at several Atlantic City Casinos, which forced him to Sell The Eagles to cover those debts. Eventually he was evicted from his mansion and died living in a small rundown, old hotel room in Philadelphia.

Several of the casinos sued him to get their money. Toes countersued, claiming the casinos all overserved him. There was some pretty damming testimony when a cocktail waitress, testified that her instructions were to keep his glass filled at all times until he was no longer standing. She said she complained to management that they were illegally overserving him and she was threatened with the loss of her job. There was similar testimony from a number of people. Despite this pretty damming testimony, the casinos won, and I have already told you how it ended for Mr. Tose. He literally lost an NFL team (and a fortune) to gambling addiction. That is on him. But what the Casinos did, is also illegal and predatory behavior. And that is precisely why so many people despise the casino Industry.
Kj, I did some research on this bozo clown, Leornard Tose, and he’s what I’m talking about. He’s an example of how casinos bring value to our society. This guy could win a Darwin award if there was one for how to lose milllions because of stupidity. He was married 5 times so I expect he lost a lot of his fortune to his ex-wives and the other part to casinos and who knows what other stupid habits he had.

Yes, the casinos probably helped him lose his money quicker but this was a good thing. It meant he had to sell the Philly Eagles. I’m sure the Eagles were in much better hands after he sold them.

So once again, you’re pointing out the good side of casinos. Can you please give me an example where they took money from someone without that person knowing about it? I’ve never heard of this happening.

Have you seen the video Colin (one of the guys who started BJA) made on the things casinos don’t want you to know? It’s one the dumbest videos ever made. He thinks casinos are evil because they don’t have clocks on the wall. He said this causes people to lose track of time and gambler longer, thus, losing more money. I guess Colin doesn’t know most people use their phone or watch to tell time.

APs look for ridiculous things to criticize casinos on. It wouldn’t matter what casinos did, the anti-casino crowd would find something they didn’t like about casinos. Btw, Colin also doesn’t like that most casinos don’t have windows. That’s really evil. Lol.

I’ve wondered why APs criticize casinos so much and then it hit me. It’s to help them justify taking money from them. If the casinos are doing nothing wrong, then I guess it’s hard for APs to justify their actions. For the record, I like casinos and won’t criticize them, but I still like to take money from them. I don’t need to make them the bad guy to still enjoy winning money from them.

This is where I think differently than most APs. I don’t hold any ill will towards casinos because I know they’re doing excatly what there’re supposed to be doing. For the vast majority of people who gamble responsibly, they add value to their lives. All my friends like casinos and they are net losers. Some go to Vegas every year for gaming, the shows, the entertainment, the bright lights, etc...and, well, they like Vegas. I’ve asked them if the resort fees and paying for parking upsets them. They say, no, they didn’t even think about it until I brought it up.

This is a shout out to the great job the Vegas casinos are doing! And they should keep up the good work taking all the money they can from stupid rich people. This is a great service to society. It’s better in the hands of casinos and our government then with these idiots, and their gold-digging ex-wives.
