Thread: I don't understand Wizard

  1. #1
It seems I am always miffed at something Mike is doing.

In this case it was his post yesterday encouraging people to play the Circa Million dollar NFL handicapping challenge.

I mean what the fuck? Why did he have to publicly post that as of yesterday there was a significant overlay, making this a +EV play?

I didn't really enter as +EV play, but that made it even nicer.

And probably the oddest part is that Michael himself is now entering. I mean why would he sabotage himself along with the rest of us that were hoping for as few entrants as possible.

I know those of you that are his buddy's are going to say I am always picking on him, but come on. Why does he do this shit?

Yeah you are right Rob. People sabotaging advantage plays that I am playing is an obsession of mine.....especially when they do so intentionally.

I have spilled some information twice that probably hurt fellow AP's. Once at The Lucky Dragon Drawing Promo after they had closed and once exposing the shuffle machine thing that some fellow AP's were taking advantage of. Both times, I didn't realize. The Lucky Dragon, I simply didn't understand. The shuffle machine, I was only looking at the fact that the casino was cheating, not considering that some smarter than me might be taking advantage of that.

This is a far cry from intentionally sabotaging and exposing plays as Mike seems to like to do. And yes, this one is relatively small potatoes, but it is the pattern and it is the intentional part. I really don't get this.

Is this thread still publicly available? Would you mind linking to it? Regarding the auto-shuffler?

Auto-shuffler? Hold on a sec while I channel my inner Sergeant Shultz: "I know nooting"

But I will say this: There is a (fairly) new company in the auto shuffle market that bares watching. More overseas than in the U.S. so far, but it really is something to keep an eye on.

It was probably a business decision on Shack's part. You know, Wizard of Odds.
"More importantly, mickey thought 8-4 was two games over .500. Argued about it. C'mon, man. Nothing can top that for math expertise. If GWAE ever has you on again, you can be sure I'll be calling in with that gem.'Nuff said." REDIETZ

You keep thinking Wizard is an AP. That's your mistake.

I have no idea why he would post that either. I have to think that many more people will now enter after what he posted. That will definitely drop the EV down if there's any left.

I'd just go with a three-pronged Occam's Razor (Ockham's to be precise) take on it. He gains more from showing off that his site provides the occasional value-info that nobody else will publicize than he loses from more people entering the contest. First of all, since his leaking his analysis might piss off those already entered, that means very few already using his site are likely to have entered, which is undoubtedly true. It also means, of course, he understands that he has little or no chance of winning and not much chance of cashing. Since I would trust his self-evaluation on that, his decision to leak his analysis as a showing off and publicist's move would therefore make sense. Third, he gets a gold star from Circa for helping them out. Those gold stars may come in useful.

Just FYI, I speak to Derek and mike at the d quite often. They are on pace and we’re on pace for 1420-1460 sign ups, there was only going to be a VERY slight overlay at best and they weren’t sweating a 50k overlay nor would it be worth that much so mike really didn’t give away much

On the other hand guys like KJ have absolutely no right to bitch. Because, if not for guys like Michael Shackelford writing books and posting information, he wouldn't be a card counter. He would be working as a flight attendant or hairdresser

I feel I have the right to bitch because I discovered Advantage play on my own and I've never owed or really read an Advantage Play book.

how would one calculate the fact that someone is a better-than-average in a contest like this? I assume there has to be some dead money. Of course all the smart money is probably going to end up using all the same stale lines.

Geez, you were doing so well, Axelwolf. I was just about to comment on how reasonable you have sounded both publicly and privately for the last day or so. I was going to ask if someone more reasonable had hacked your account. But low and behold...you are back.

First of all, I am not seriously pissed or anything. I figured there would be many entries next week after the final preseason games. But I still find it odd he would drive the odds down, especially since he intended to enter.

The rest of your post is nonsence. I never read a blackjack book or info from Mike. I didn't even know he had written a blackjack book. I never heard of him until I was already living in Vegas in my 7th or 8th year of supporting myself from blackjack.

It also is completely inconsequential how anyone comes to learn or be an AP. The fact is you don't expect other AP's to stab you in the back or at least I don't. Maybe MaxPen is right. Maybe my mistake is considering Mike an AP or friend of AP's. Maybe he is more like the second coming of (t)Eliot.

My comment was not meant to disparage Mike in any way. Comparing him to TEliott is an insult to Mike. I'm just saying he doesn't look at things from the viewpoint of an AP. Because he is not one. Yet you constantly make the mistake of viewing him as an AP.

If OP actually cared about this play being exposed he would not have posted this thread which will just spread awareness even further.

I guess this was actually some kind of sneaky brag by KewlJ that he knew about this?

And just when I thought you know how to read. I said, if not for guys like Michael Shackelford. That would include anyone that published information that you read and learn something from regarding blackjack and or any other Advantage play. I can assume you didn't just walk into a casino one day look at Blackjack and think there might be something to this. You can't tell me you've never read a blackjack book or whatever.

I thought the same thing a few times and avoided posting in a particular thread and spread the word other shouldn't as well. It all depends on the situation I guess. There have been some occasions where I thought I probably shouldn't Post in the thread, but I did it anyways. Of course, I generally don't start threads about plays.

What the fuck are you saying Axel? Because I read some books and learned about card counting...that means what? What are you nuts? You drinking?

Every professional athlete has some one that taught them the game. So what?

Are you looking for some sort of extra kudos because you self taught? Really? You need that Pat on the back?

He's saying that if Thorp and others would've kept their yaps shut, you would've never found card counting.

So what? Without Henry Ford (and others) we would all be walking. So what?
