Thread: Intro/advice wanted: Vegas first-timers!

  1. #1
Hi folks! First time poster here, all the way from New Zealand.

My buddy and I are visiting the USA for the first time in December. We’re super excited – we’re doing a couple of days in San Francisco and LA, then heading to Vegas.

We love gambling but we’re also excited to see everything else the city has to offer.

I’m reading the threads on this forum to get as much intel as I can, but I thought I would also reach out to you all and ask for your top #1 (or more) tip, suggestion, piece of advice etc... for anything at all, from finding accommodation in CA & NV, to what to do/not to do, places to go, what to watch out for, where to find the best deals etc. Essentially – what you wish you’d known on your first trip to Vegas.

We're really excited about our trip but obviously trying to do it in a cost-effective way so we have as much leftover cash as possible to really enjoy it.

We would love to know your best tips and tricks for a couple of first-timers to Vegas. Thanks in advance!

In case you’re interested – a bit about ourselves...

My buddy and I are big fans of the slots. Here they are almost universally referred to as "pokies" (poker machines). New Zealand is so small that there are only 6 or 7 casinos in the country, and our legislation prohibits any new casinos being established. However, pokies are also available in pubs/bars/taverns which is where we play them the most, although the maximum allowable bet per spin is $2.50 and the maximum win per single play is $500. Our casinos do not have these restrictions and are much like overseas casinos although to the best of my knowledge, we are not taxed as ridiculously as our American friends on winnings and I don't believe there's such a thing as a 'handpay' limitation in NZ.

I mostly stick to Lightning Link/Lightning Cash machines - at our local bar we have two machines, High Stakes and Magic Pearl, that pay out phenomenally most nights. Also a fan of Eureka Reel and Electric Nights. My buddy plays a far bigger range and likes to explore new games but I'll stick with what I know and like.

We’re also both big fans of a range of table games. I love blackjack for its simplicity and the fact it was the first proper card game I ever learned to play.

    Thanks for reading!

The first mistake you made was going to San Francisco. It's a wretched place these days, as it's Democrat-controlled city Government has chosen to allow rampant homelessness, street urination and pooping, heroin and other illegal drug use, in record numbers scattered all over town. It's also a "Sanctuary City" which means any illegal Mexican slob can commit any crime they like and not be prosecuted or turned over to the Feds.

Christchurch is my favorite part of NZ.

Haha, thanks Rob. Not much we can do about that now... and we’ll only be there a couple days. We didn’t want to go all that way without at least visiting and checking it out.

Christchurch is indeed a lovely city.

If you haven't already, I'd wander over to www.lvadvice.com. If you ask for some assistance, they are usually more than helpful in an adult, kind way. Many posters there also come at things from a visitor, rather than resident, point of view. The hotel and restaurant reviews and trip reports are usually pretty good.

If you pop over there, you are unlikely to encounter any more of "Singer's" uplifting suggestions, as he's been banned.

It may take a couple of days at lvadvice for suggestions to start rolling in, but it's a helpful crowd.

Thanks heaps for the suggestion, redietz! Very much appreciated.

You mean Singer giving them a truthful heads up of what to expect in San Francisco. Wouldn't you want to know what was going on if it was you coming over from another country? Cheap shot redietz.

Beware of redietz sending you a private message. Before you know it, he'll be asking you to buy his sports "locks" and use multiple 50c words in the process.

Lightninglinklover, you may want to visit the Pinball Hall of Fame while you and your friend are in Las Vegas if you like pinball. If I am ever in New Zealand I was planning to visit Rotor Dave's pinball place which I understand is tremendous.

    Cheers, tp.

Righto. I'm sure they're lacking internet in New Zealand, right? Oh, wait, they posted via the internet. I guess maybe they can do their own San Francisco research. Will wonders never cease?

The only questions, then, are when was the last time "Singer" was in San Francisco, and what makes him an expert? Oh, that's right. He reads it on the internet. And these guys are from New Zealand. They must not have internet. Oh wait, they posted using the internet. Will wonders never cease?

Yeah that`s all there is to expect in SF....forget about Fishermans Wharf, GG Bridge,Alcatraz Island, the cable cars, the Bay, and some of the best restaurants in the US....newsflash for you Mr. BoTox, almost every heavily populated city in this country has its share of bums, hobos, minorities, drugs and shitty areas...FOH

The cable cars are not operating. They are down for maintenance. Probably ran thru too much shit. It's sad that SF has deteriorated so much in just 30 years. Conventions are pulling out of the city because of all the problems.

Suggestions for Vegas. First, don't play any 6:5 blackjack games. Second, get CBJN to find the best blackjack games. Third, check out this forum.https://www.blackjacktheforum.com/forum.php It is better than this forum as knowledgeable folks know a lot about blackjack over there. This Vegas Talk Forum is mostly slot players, only a few know anything about blackjack. And besides the cheap bastards here won't even help their fellow man with a hurricane Dorian donation.

LightningLinkLover, what do you know about the Mystery Progressive slots in New Zealand? Have you ever heard of Peter Liston? He's an Australian that has worked these Mystery Progressives in New Zealand. He has a book out called Million Dollar Slots.

Since it's no skin off my back, I can explain to you how he exploits these slots if you are interested.

Hey, mickey, I was wondering. You argued that offering a 1K reward to anyone who would come forward claiming to have taught "Singer" the glitch would demonstrate that nobody had done that. It seems to me that my ongoing 5K reward to anyone providing evidence of a private message wherein I am trying to sell anything would be even stronger evidence that no such thing ever happened.

I was wondering about your take on that. Is there a flaw in my logic?

The very fact that you're perpetually worried about it seals the verdict. You are a liar. My solicitations came via text. Parsing words fools no one.

    Nut up, weirdo.

Your statements and claims are as credible as Iraq's secretary of defense during the Golf War claiming everything was A-ok in Bagdad while American tanks were driving around in the background. The biggest fucking low life liar to ever roam the internet is you. Now, go milk that ugly cow you're married to. And while you're at it, shave its moustache as well. And as usual you were present immediately to shit all over a serious post from a new member just to draw attention to your little self. Midget…...

Vegas_lover, assuming (and we all know the danger of that) that Rob isn't really married to a member of the Bovine family, I would implore you not to make such comments. Comments about Rob's credibility and honestly are absolutely fair game, but don't get drug down to the gutter level, which is easy to do on this forum. While I have long since given up any hope of this forum becoming anything more than the troll forum that Dan Druff finds amusing, there just is no need to sink to this level and attack someone's spouse who doesn't participate. Sinking to this level actually diminishes reasonable criticisms that you make.

Now, I have been reading Rob claiming that Redietz solicited him concerning sportsbetting picks since I joined this forum. Singer and only Singer makes this charge. I have never heard anyone else even remotely suggest or confirm. I am one of the few people on these forums that admits that the little bit of sportsbetting I do, during football season and some college basketball in March is for fun and a losing (-EV) proposition for me. I call it my entertainment. That being said, I would think I would be a prime target for someone that was soliciting their sports pick service and I have never received any kind of contact from redietz even hinting at that. So I find Rob's accusations hard to believe.

And in typical Rob Singer fashion, this story/accusation has changed over the years. I can go back and find a dozens of posts where Rob claimed that Redietz contacted him(and him alone) by PM, soliciting his sportsbetting service. Naturally Redietz takes offense at this and counter challenges Singer to provide proof, which Singer has never done. This happens to be a common thing with Singer. AND in typical Rob Singer fashion, he now has amended his story to this solicitation was done by text, making it impossible to provide evidence. (Setting a side that one would wonder how Redietz even had a contact phone number to text Singer)

This is typical Rob Singer complete bullshit, simply about discrediting and smearing someone. Singer is a liar, proven a hundred times over. He lies about big things. He lies about small insignificant things. WE have gotten to the point that we just accept Singer's dishonesty. But I don't think this is fair to Redietz. Soliciting people by PM for any kind of service should not be tolerated, even on a forum like this. If it occurred Todd (Dan Druff) should be notified and take action. And if it didn't occur and Rob can't substantiate these accusations, he should be punished. For about the 100th time....grow the fuck up Rob Singer. Act like a freaking adult.

LOL. I'll make it 10K for texts. Anybody with solicitations from me via text gets 10K -- free and clear. Mickey, any flaw with my logic here?

And "Singer," do you ever think before you post?

Rob tried to make a break from the trolling. He did with me. You and KJ had the same opportunity to break from it. You both chose not to. Rob actually wasn't responding to your trolling for awhile. But you guys kept pushing it. Now he is back full blown trolling you guys back. Whose to blame? You and KJ are. You've gotten what you wanted. You want the troll war so don't bitch to anyone about it.
